Fabrication of Nanostructured $5Cu_{0.6}Fe_{0.4}-Al_2O_3$ Composite by Pulsed Current Activated Sintering from Mechanically Synthesized Powder (기계적으로 합성한 분말로부터 펄스전류 활성 소결에 의한 나노구조 $5Cu_{0.6}Fe_{0.4}-Al_2O_3$ 복합재료제조)

  • Dense $5Cu_{0.6}Fe_{0.4}-Al_2O_3$ composite was consolidated from mechanically synthesized powders by pulsed current activated sintering method within 1 min. $5Cu_{0.6}Fe_{0.4}-Al_2O_3$ powder was synthesized from 3CuO and 2FeAI using the high energy ball milling. Dense $5Cu_{0.6}Fe_{0.4}-Al_2O_3$ with relative density of up to 95% was produced under simultaneous application of a 80 MPa pressure and the pulsed current. Mechanical properties and grain size of the composite were investigated.

  • This paper presents micromachining results on planar-lightwave-circuit (PLC) chips with Si substrate and the quartz substrate by using Ti:Sapphire femtosecond-pulsed laser. The ablation process with femtosecond laser pulses generates nothing of contamination, molten zone, microcracks, shock wave, delamination and recast layer. We also showed that the micromachine for PLC using femtosecond pulsed lasers is superior to that using nanosecond pulsed lasers. The insertion loss and the optical return loss of the 1 ${\times}$ 8 optical power splitters packaged with micromachined input- and output-port U-grooves were less than 11.0 ㏈ and more than 55 ㏈, respectively. The wavelength dependent loss (WDL) was distributed within $\pm$0.6 ㏈ and the polarization dependent loss (PDL) was less than 0.2 ㏈.

  • In this study, we analyzed the $NO_X$ removal efficiency and particle size distribution by the pulsed corona discharge process and investigated the effect of several process variables. The NO removal efficiencies and the particle characteristics were measured and analyzed as the function of initial concentrations of NO, $H_2O$, and $NH_3$, applied voltage, pulse frequency and residence time. As the frequency of applied voltage increases, or as the applied voltage increases or as the residence time increases, the NO removal efficiency increases. The change of initial $NH_3$ and $H_2O$ concentrations do not affect the NO removal efficiency significantly. The particle concentration and size increases with the increases of initial NO concentration, residence time and applied voltage.

Extended duration pulsed radiofrequency for the management of refractory meralgia paresthetica: a series of five cases

  • Meralgia paresthetica (MP) is a sensory mononeuropathy, caused by compression of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN) of thigh. Patients refractory to conservative management are treated with various interventional procedures. We report the first use of extended duration (8 minutes) pulsed radiofrequency of the LFCN in a case series of five patients with refractory MP. Four patients had follow up for 1-2 years, and one had 6 months follow up. All patients reported remarkable and long lasting symptom relief and an increase in daily life activities. Three patients came off medications and two patients required minimal doses of neuropathic medications. No complications were observed.

Structural and Optical Properties of ZnO Thin Films Grown at Various Plume-Substrate Angles by Pulsed Laser Deposition (펄스레이저 증착법에서 기판-플룸 각 변화가 ZnO 박막의 구조 및 광학적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • ZnO thin films were grown with different plume-substrate angles by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) to control the amount of ablated species arriving on a substrate per laser shot. The angles between plume propagation direction and substrate plane (P-S angle) were 0$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$. The growth time was changed in order to adjust film thickness. From the XRD pattern exhibiting a dominant (002) and a minor (101) XRD peak of ZnO, all films were found to be well oriented along c-axis. From the AFM image, it was found that the grain size of ZnO thin film was increased, as P-S angle decreased. UV intensity investigated by PL (Photoluminescence) increased as P-S angle decreased.

  • 실제 산업에서 가장 많이 사용하고 있는 in-line type system에서 Al-doped ZnO (AZO) 막을 bipolar pulsed DC sputtering을 이용해 증착하였다. 약 30 nm/sec의 속도로 기판을 타겟 좌우로 swing 하면서 동적 증착 공정을 한 AZO 박막의 columnar structure가 정적 증착일 때와 다른 형태의 zigzag-type columnar structure가 형성되었다. 투명전도막의 가장 중요한 특성인 비저항과 투과도가 동적 증착 공정일 때의 박막과 정적 증착 공정일 때의 박막이 각각 $2.5{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, 78.5%와 $1.65{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, 83.9% 였다. 이렇게 성장하는 막의 구조 형태에 따라 달라지는 특성 변화는 양산하는 현장에서 매우 중요한 것이며, 동적 증착 공정에서의 박막 특성 개선에 정적 증착 공정과는 다른 방법의 연구가 필요할 것이다.

  • A pulsed field magnetometer with maximum applied field of 130 kOe has been constructed. The pulsed field generated by a 18 kJ capacitor bank system combined with a pulse coil was damped oscillation with the period of 10.12 ms. Magnetic hysteresis loop was measured by induction method during 10.12 ms of a pulse duration from the first positive to the second positive peak. The difference from DC magnetic properties due to the eddy current effect was inferred below 3% for the NdFeB magnet with the diameter below 5 mm.

  • Nano Fe-6.5wt%Si powders have been synthesized by mechano-chemical process (MCP) for an application of soft magnetic core. Owing to hard and brittle characteristics of Fe-6.5Si nano powders having large surface area, it is very difficult to reach high density more than 70% of theoretical density (~7.4 g/$cm_3$) by cold compaction. To overcome such problem a magnetic pulsed compaction (MPC), which is one of dynamic compaction techniques, was applied. The green density was achieved about 78% (~5.8 g/$cm_3$) by MPC at room temperature.

  • Amputation neuroma can cause very serious, intractable pain. Many treatment modalities are suggested for painful neuroma. Pharmacologic treatment shows a limited effect on eliminating the pain, and surgical treatment has a high recurrence rate. We applied pulsed radiofrequency treatment at the neuroma stalk under ultrasonography guidance. The long-term outcome was very successful, prompting us to report this case.

  • The purpose of the study was to identify the effect of laser parameters on photocoagulation to maximize safety and efficacy during varicose vein treatment. CW and pulsed modes at 1470 nm were initially compared as a function of power on bovine liver tissue. In the pulsed mode, various parameters including repetition rate, duty cycle, and irradiation time were compared to evaluate tissue response during thermal treatment. The results demonstrated that CW and pulsed modes yielded almost similar coagulation development possibly due to shorter irradiation time of 5 sec. Regardless of laser mode, both repetition rate and duty cycle presented constant coagulation rate whereas longer irradiation time facilitated coagulation process.
