One of the good ways to raise the rate of the electrochemical reaction is to broaden the effective surface area of the electrode by developing cylindrical nano-pores on the surfaces. The numerous pores of several nanometer in diameter can be used to enhance a specific faradaic reaction so that the nano-porous structure attract keen attention in terms of implication of new bio/chemical sensors, in which no chemical modification is involved. Amperometric glucose sensor is a representative example that needs the selective enhancement of glucose oxidation over the current due to physiological interferents such as ascorbic acid. The present paper reports how the ascorbic acid and glucose diffuse around the nano-porous surface by simulation study, for which 2D-FDM (Finite Difference Method) was adopted. The results of the simulation not only consist with those from electrochemical experiments but also reveal valuable potential for more advanced application of the nano-porous electrode.

It is widely accepted that short exciton diffusion lengths of organic semiconductors with respect to the film thickness limit the charge (hole and electron) separation before excitons recombination in organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells. Therefore the efficient absorption of incident light within the thin active organic layer is of great importance to improve the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the cells. In this work, we fabricated 2-dimensionally (2D) nano-patterned poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOST:PSS) layers using capillary phenomenon and nano-imprinting technology at the scale of several hundred nanometers. This 2D nano-patterned PEDOT:PSS layer exerted photonic crystal effect such as redirection of light paths and variation of light intensity at specified wavelengths. It is also expected that the consequently alternated light pass lengths and intensities change the absorption properties of zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc) thin films grown on top of the nano-patterned PEDOT:PSS layer. The influence of conductivity and thickness of the PEDOT:PSS layer on the absorption properties of ZnPc thin films were also investigated.

We investigated the property of formation of mono-vesicle(designated nano-some) with using of the combined co-emulsifiers and phospholipid. Nano-some was prepared with hydrogenated lecithin(HL) and diethanolamine cetyl phosphate(DEA-CP) by swelling reaction. Kojic acid and kojic dipalmitate could be made stabilization by nano-some system using microfluidizer(MF). Nano-some has a good affinity to skin by means of this system. The composition was compounded by 2% of hydrogenated lecithin (phosphatidyl choline contained with 75%, 0.5% of DEA-CP and 0.5% of diglyceryl dioleate (DGDO). To make nano-some, several conditions of MF have to be considered as follows. The optimum pH was 6.0. The pressure was 10,000psi and passage temperature was at $306^{\circ}C$. The nano-some base was passed to homogenize continually 3 times through MF. The Particle size distributions of the vesicles were with in $57{\sim}75.7nm$(mean 66nm) by measuring the Zetasizer-3000. Zeta potential of vesicles with 3 times passage through MF was -24.8mV. Formations for nano-some vesicle certificated photograph by scanning electric magnification (SEM). Stability of nano-some was very good for 6months. The turbidity was very good transparency compared nano-some with liposome. It was formed the mono vesicle in the opposite direction to be formed the multi-lamellar vesicle of liposome.

Some nano hair systems in the nature are found to show excellent adhesive characteristic, which is called dry adhesive, and synthetic nano hairs to mimic these adhesiveness are believed to have many applications. To develop a practical synthetic dry adhesive system, we mold nano hairs on plastic substrates using thermoplstic materials including COC, PP, PC and PMMA. and estimate the moldability and the adhesive characteristic. As a template for molding nano hairs, AAO membrane is first adopted, which is 60um thick and 13mm in diameter. This membrane has about a billion of through-holes of which diameter is around 200nm. This AAO membrane and the pellet of materials are stacked in the mold and pressed to mold after heating up to be melted. The AAO membrane is removed using KOH to obtain the molded nano hairs. As a result, the diameter of the molded hairs is around 200nm and the length is $2um{\sim}60um$ depending on the molding conditions and materials. The molded nano hair substrates is estimated to show much better adhesive characteristic than a substrate without nano hairs.
This study examines the role of the nano- and micro-particle ratio in dispersion stability and mechanical properties of composite resins for SLA(stereolithography) 3D printing technology. VTES(vinyltriethoxysilane)-coated $ZrO_2$ ceramic particles with different nano- and micro-particle ratios are prepared by a hydrolysis and condensation reaction and then dispersed in commercial photopolymer (High-temp) based on interpenetrating networks(IPNs). The coating characteristics of VTES-coated $ZrO_2$ particles are observed by FE-TEM and FT-IR. The rheological properties of VTES-coated $ZrO_2/High-temp$ composite solution with different particle ratios are investigated by rheometer, and the dispersion properties of the composite solution are confirmed by relaxation NMR and Turbiscan. The mechanical properties of 3D-printed objects are measured by a tensile test and nanoindenter. To investigate the aggregation and dispersion properties of VTES-coated $ZrO_2$ ceramic particles with different particle ratios, we observe the cross-sectional images of 3D printed objects using FE-SEM. The 3D printed objects of the composite solution with nano-particles of 80 % demonstrate improved mechanical characteristics.
We have investigated the lasing characteristics of the InGaAs quantum dot laser diode (QD-LD) and InGaAs quantum well laser diode (QW-LD) operated at the 980 nm wavelength range. The 980-nm lasers are used as a pumping source for a erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) and it shows high efficiency in long-haul optical fiber network. We have compared the threshold current density, the characteristic temperature, the optical power and the internal efficiency of QD-LD and QW-LD under a pulsed current condition. The QD-LD shows superior performances to the QW-LD. Further optimization of a LD structure is expected to the superior performances of a QD-LD.

Silicon nano-structures have great potential in bionic sensor applications. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) anodic oxidation have many advantages for the nanostructure fabrication, such as simple process in atmosphere at room temperature, compatibility with conventional Si process. In this work, we fabricated simple FET structures with channel width W~ 10nm (nanowire) and $1{\mu}m$ (nano-ribbon) on ~10, 20 and 100nm-thinned silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers in order to investigate the surface effect on the transport characteristics of nano-channel. For further quantitative analysis, we carried out the 2D numerical simulations to investigate the effect of channel surface states on the carrier distribution behavior inside the channel. The simulated 2D cross-sectional structures of fabricated devices had channel heights of H ~ 10, 20, and 100nm, widths of L ~ $1{\mu}m$ and 10nm respectively, where we simultaneously varied the channel surface charge density from $1{\times}10^{-9}$ to $1{\times}10^{-7}C/cm2$. It has been shown that the side-wall charge of nanowire channel mainly affect the I-V characteristics and this was confirmed by the 2D numerical simulations.
We have investigated the influence of the crystal structure on the chemical bonding nature and photocatalytic activity of cubic and hexagonal perovskite A[$Cr_{1/2}Ta_{1/2}$]O3 (A = Sr, Ba) compounds. According to neutron diffraction and field emission-scanning electron microscopy, the crystal structure and particle size of these compounds are strongly dependent on the nature of A-site cations. Also, it was found that the face-shared octahedra in the hexagonal phase are exclusively occupied by chromium ions, suggesting the presence of metallic (Cr-Cr) bonds. X-ray absorption and diffuse UV-vis spectroscopic analyses clearly demonstrated that, in comparison with cubic Sr[$Cr_{1/2}Ta_{1/2}$]$O_3$ phase, hexagonal Ba[$Cr_{1/2}Ta_{1/2}$]$O_3$ phase shows a decrease of Cr oxidation state as well as remarkable changes in interband Cr d-d transitions, which can be interpreted as a result of metallic (Cr-Cr) interactions. According to the test of photocatalytic activity, the present semiconducting materials have a distinct activity against the photodegradation of 4-chlorophenol. Also the Srbased compound was found to show a higher photocatalytic activity than the Ba-based one, which is attributable to its smaller particle size and its stronger absorption in visible light region.

Micron-sized Co-alloy T800 powder was coated on Inconel718 (IN718) using high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying by the optimal coating process (OCP) determined from the best surface hardness of 16 coatings prepared by Taguchi program. The surface hardness improved 140-160 % from 399 Hv of IN718 to 560-630 Hv by the coating. Porosity of the coating was 1.0-2.7 %, strongly depending on spray parameters. Both friction coefficients (FC) and wear traces (WT) of the coating were smaller than those of IN718 substrate at both $25^{\circ}C$ and $538^{\circ}C$. FC and WT of IN718 and coating decreased with increasing the surface temperature. Tensile bond strength (TBS) and fracture location (FL) of Ti64/T800 were 8,770 psi and near middle of T800 coating respectively. TBS and FL of Ti64/NiCr/T800 were 8,740 psi and near middle of T800 coating respectively. This showed that cohesion of T800 coating was 8,740-8,770 psi, and adhesion of T800 on Ti64 and NiCr was stronger than the cohesion of T800.
Transparent Photovoltaic (PV) modules have recently been in the spotlight because they can be applied to buildings and vehicles. However, crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar modules, which account for about 90% of the PV module market, have the disadvantage of applying transparent PV modules due to their unique opacity. Recently, a see-through type PV module using a crystalline silicon solar strap has been developed. However, there is a problem due to a decrease in aesthetics due to the metal ribbon in the center of the see-through type PV module and difficulty bonding the metal ribbon due to the low voltage output of the strap. In this study, to solve this problem, we developed a fabrication process of series connected c-Si solar strap cells using the c-Si solar cells. We succeeded in fabricating a series connected strap with a width of 2-10 mm, and we plan to manufacture an aesthetic see-through type c-Si PV module.
