Recently, following the development of LIDAR technology which can detect distance from the object, the interest for LIDAR based 3D object detection network is getting higher. Previous networks generate inaccurate localization results due to spatial information loss during voxelization and downsampling. In this study, we propose an attention-based convergence method and a camera-LIDAR convergence system to acquire high-level features and high positional accuracy. First, by introducing the attention method into the Voxel-RCNN structure, which is a grid-based 3D object detection network, the multi-scale sparse 3D convolution feature is effectively fused to improve the performance of 3D object detection. Additionally, we propose the late-fusion mechanism for fusing outcomes in 3D object detection network and 2D object detection network to delete false positive. Comparative experiments with existing algorithms are performed using the KITTI data set, which is widely used in the field of autonomous driving. The proposed method showed performance improvement in both 2D object detection on BEV and 3D object detection. In particular, the precision was improved by about 0.54% for the car moderate class compared to Voxel-RCNN.
Image-based 3D object detection is one of the important and difficult problems in autonomous driving and robotics, and aims to find and represent the location, dimension and orientation of the object of interest. It generates three dimensional (3D) bounding boxes with only 2D images obtained from cameras, so there is no need for devices that provide accurate depth information such as LiDAR or Radar. Image-based methods can be divided into three main categories: monocular, stereo, and multi-view 3D object detection. In this paper, we investigate the recent state-of-the-art models of the above three categories. In the multi-view 3D object detection, which appeared together with the release of the new benchmark datasets, NuScenes and Waymo, we discuss the differences from the existing monocular and stereo methods. Also, we analyze their performance and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of them. Finally, we conclude the remaining challenges and a future direction in this field.

This paper describes a visual object detection approach utilizing ensemble based machine learning. Object detection methods employing 1D features have the benefit of fast calculation speed. However, for real image with complex background, detection accuracy and performance are degraded. In this paper, we propose an ensemble learning algorithm that combines a 1D feature classifier and 2D DNF (Disjunctive Normal Form) classifier to improve the object detection performance in a single input image. Also, to improve the computing efficiency and accuracy, we propose a feature selecting method to reduce the computing time and ensemble algorithm by combining the 1D features and 2D DNF features. In the verification experiments, we selected the Haar-like feature as the 1D image descriptor, and demonstrated the performance of the algorithm on a few datasets such as face and vehicle.

Research on object detection algorithms using 2D data has already progressed to the level of commercialization and is being applied to various manufacturing industries. Object detection technology using 2D data has an effective advantage, there are technical limitations to accurate data generation and analysis. Since 2D data is two-axis data without a sense of depth, ambiguity arises when approached from a practical point of view. Advanced countries such as the United States are leading 3D data collection and research using 3D laser scanners. Existing processing and detection algorithms such as ICP and RANSAC show high accuracy, but are used as a processing speed problem in the processing of large-scale point cloud data. In this study, PointNet a representative technique for detecting objects using widely used 3D point cloud data is analyzed and described. And RandLA-Net, which overcomes the limitations of PointNet's performance and object prediction accuracy, is described a review of detection technology using point cloud data was conducted.

In this paper, the algorithms which can track the two dimensional moving circular object using simple vision system are described. In order to track the moving object, the process of finding the object feature points - such as centroid of the object, corner points, area - is indispensable. With the assumption of two-dimensional circular moving object, the centroid of the circular object is computed from three points on the object circumference. Different kinds of algorithms for computing three edge points - simple x directional detection method, stick method. T-shape method are suggested. Through the computer simulation and experiments, three algorithms are compared from the viewpoint of detection accuracy and computational time efficiency.

Although 2D Object detection has been largely improved in the past years with the advance of deep learning methods and the use of large labeled image datasets, 3D object detection from 2D imagery is a challenging problem in a variety of applications such as robotics, due to the lack of data and diversity of appearances and shapes of objects within a category. Google has just announced the launch of Objectron that has a novel data pipeline using mobile augmented reality session data. However, it also is corresponding to 2D-driven 3D object detection technique. This study explores more mature 2D object detection method, and applies its 2D projection to Objectron 3D lifting system. Most object detection methods use bounding boxes to encode and represent the object shape and location. In this work, we explore a stochastic representation of object regions using Gaussian distributions. We also present a similarity measure for the Gaussian distributions based on the Hellinger Distance, which can be viewed as a stochastic Intersection-over-Union. Our experimental results show that the proposed Gaussian representations are closer to annotated segmentation masks in available datasets. Thus, less accuracy problem that is one of several limitations of Objectron can be relaxed.
This paper proposes an algorithm for 3D object detection by processing point cloud data of 3D LiDAR. Unlike 2D LiDAR, 3D LiDAR-based data was too vast and difficult to process in three dimensions. This paper introduces various studies based on 3D LiDAR and describes 3D LiDAR data processing. In this study, we propose a method of processing data of 3D LiDAR using clustering techniques for object detection and design an algorithm that fuses with cameras for clear and accurate 3D object detection. In addition, we study models for clustering 3D LiDAR-based data and study hyperparameter values according to models. When clustering 3D LiDAR-based data, the DBSCAN algorithm showed the most accurate results, and the hyperparameter values of DBSCAN were compared and analyzed. This study will be helpful for object detection research using 3D LiDAR in the future.
An algorithm to extract the 3-D geometric information of a static object was developed using a set of 2-D computer vision system and a laser structured lighting device. As a structured light pattern, multi-parallel lines were used in the study. The proposed algorithm was composed of three stages. The camera calibration, which determined a coordinate transformation between the image plane and the real 3-D world, was performed using known 6 pairs of points at the first stage. Then, utilizing the shifting phenomena of the projected laser beam on an object, the height of the object was computed at the second stage. Finally, using the height information of the 2-D image point, the corresponding 3-D information was computed using results of the camera calibration. For arbitrary geometric objects, the maximum error of the extracted 3-D feature using the proposed algorithm was less than 1~2mm. The results showed that the proposed algorithm was accurate for 3-D geometric feature detection of an object.

Three dimensional (3-D) object detection and pose estimation from a single view query image has been an important issue in various fields such as medical applications, robot vision, and manufacturing automation. However, most of the existing methods are not appropriate in a real time environment since object detection and pose estimation requires extensive information and computation. In this paper, we present a fast 3-D object detection and pose estimation scheme based on surrounding camera view-changed images of objects. Our scheme has two parts. First, we detect images similar to the query image from the database based on the shape feature, and calculate candidate poses. Second, we perform accurate pose estimation for the candidate poses using the scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) method. We earned out extensive experiments on our prototype system and achieved excellent performance, and we report some of the results.
