Antimicrobial activity of dandelion(Taraxacum platycarpum D.) was investigated. Methanol extract of dried dandelion was fractionated to hexane, chloroform, ethylacetate, butanol and aqueous fraction. Ethylacetate fraction among these fractions showed the highest inhibitory effect on the microorganisms such as B. subtilis, L. monocytogenes, S. aureus, E. coli and V. parahaemolyticus at $500\mu\textrm{g}/disc$. Ethylacetate fraction was further fractionated into 13 fractions by silica gel column and thin layer chromatography(TLC). The results showed that ethylacetate fractions No. 4, 5 and 6 had high antimicrobial activity. These were mixed again, re separated and five fractions were obtained. Among them, No. 2 fraction had the highest inhibitory effect on the microorganisms, which was then separated into six fractions. In the 3rd fractionation, No. 3 fraction was identified as benzoic acid by HPLC, $^{1}H-NMR$ and GC MS.
The stem of Chrysanthemum morifolium, 'Baekma', were repeatedly extracted with 80% aqueous MeOH and the concentrates was partitioned into ethyl acetate (EtOAc), n-butyl alcohol and $H_2O$ fraction. The repeated silica gel and octadecyl silica gel column chromatographies for the EtOAc fractions led to isolation of two glycosyl glycerides. The chemical structures of the compounds were determined as (2S)-1-O-${\beta}-{\text\tiny{D}}$-galactopyranosyl-2,3-dilinoleoylglycerol (1) and (2S)-1-O-${\beta}-{\text\tiny{D}}$-galactopyranosyl-2,3-dipalmitoylglycerol (2) based on spectroscopic data anlyses including nuclear magnetic resonance, mass sperctrometry, and infrared spectrometry and gas chromatography mass spectrometry.
42 compounds such as ester, sulfonyl ester, phosphoyl ester and ether derivatives of 4-isopropylphenol (I) and 2-isopropylphenol (II) were synthesized. These derivatives were identified by IR, GC/MS and $^{1}H-NMR$ spectra. Their in vitro antifungal activities were tested against 10 plant pathogenic fungi. Among them, several compounds showed potent in vitro antifungal activity. The selected compounds showing potent in vitro antifungal activity were tested for their in vivo antifungal acitvities against 5 plant diseases such as rice blast, rice sheath blast, cucumber anthracnose, cucumber gray mold and tomato late blight. As a result, 2-isopropylphenyl piperonyloate (II-7a) showed a potent in vivo antifungal activity against cucumber anthracnose and tomato late blight, 4-isopropylphenyl 4-methoxybenzenesulfonate (I-6b) effectively inhibited the development of rice blast.

Cerebroside fatty acids, sugars and long-chain sphingoid bases in raw soybean and soybean fermented foods (chongkukjang and deunjang) were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and high-pH anion exchange chromatography with pulsed amerometric detection (HPAEC-PAD). Fatty acids of acid-hydrolyzed cerebrosides were derivatized to O-TMS methylester and analysed. The major fatty acids in raw soybean and chongkukjang cerebrosides were identified as 2-hydroxyhexadecanoic acid (16 : 0h), 2-hydroxydocosanoic acid (22 : 0h) and 2-hydroxytetracosanoic acid (24 : 0h). In the case of deunjang cerebroside, 24 : 0h (40.9%) and 22 : 0h (23.4%) were major fatty acids, but 16 : 0h, 23 : 0h, 25 : 0h and 26 : 0h were also detected. Long-chain sphingoid bases of acid-hydrolyzed cerebrosides from raw soybean, chongkukjang and deunjang consisted primarily of 4-tracts, 8-tracts-sphingadienine (dihydroxy base, d18 : 2$\Delta$$^{4trans, 8trans}$) and sis-tracts isomers of 4-hydroxy-sphingenine (trihydroxy base, tl8:1$\Delta$$^{4trans or cis}$) with much less amounts of phytosphingosine (tl8: 0) and isomers of sphingenine (d18 : 1). Although deunjang is a soybean food fermented by fungi and microorganisms for a long period, 2-hydroxyoctadec-3-enoic acid (18 : 1h) and branched 9-methyl-4,8-sphingadienine known as compositional cerebroside fatty acids in Aspergillus species were not detected. Mass spectrum for sugar derivatives in cerebrosides of soybean foods including raw soybean and fermented soybean showed that C-1 of glucose moiety was linked to ceramide backbone as like a monoglucosylceramide.

Biodiesel has very similar physical properties (density, kinematic viscosity) and has even higher cetane number compare with conventional diesel. There are no necessity to change or modify the infra-structure & engine system. It is known that fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) is oxygen-contained components increasing the combustibility, biodegradability and reduced the exhaust harmful gas. These things made the biodiesel more popular as an alternative diesel fuel. But biodiesel's sources are controversial issues about $CO_2$ reduction effect at this time because those mainly come from edible plants such as soy, palm, rapeseed already spent lot of $CO_2$ to cultivate. Whereas micro-algae is focused because they are inedible and has rapid growth rates & high carbon-dioxide adsorption rate per area. In this study, we analyze the each FAME components using $GC{\times}GC$-TOFMS in stead of GC-FID and verify the previous total FAME contents method's applicability through the micro algal biodiesel derived from Dunaliella tertiolecta.
This research is aimed at evaluating the potential abilities of the natural acaricide of F. suspense oil against Tyrophagus putrescentiae and Dermatophagoides spp. Based on the $LD_{50}$ values, in contact bioassay, F. suspense oil (8.19, 3.28, and $4.35{\mu}g/cm^2$) showed acaricidal effects against T. putrescentiae, D. farinae, and D. pteronyssinus, respectively. Fumigant toxicities of F. suspense oil showed similar patterns as those observed with contact toxicities. GC/MS analysis showed the major components of F. suspense oil to be ${\beta}$-pinene (45.88%), myrtenol (13.86%), (+)-${\alpha}$-pinene (13.09%), (-)-trans-pinocarveol (7.34%), sabinene (6.64%) and pinocarvone (4.13%). These findings indicate that F. suspense oil has potential as a natural acaricide.
Metabolism of tranylcypromine (TCP) in rat liver microsomes was studied in vitro using fortified microsomal preparations. As well as unlabeled TCP, two deuterium labeled analogs, TCP-phenyl-$d_{5}$ and TCP-cyclopropyl-$d_{2}$ were used and GC/MS employed which was then metabolized to cinnamaldehyde and hydrocinnamyl alcohol. Schiff bases of TCP with hydrocinnamaldehyde and acetaldehyde were detected and possibility of the metabolic formation of N-ethylidene TCP was proposed. In addition, acetophenone (benzoylacetic acid), benzaldehyde, benzoic acid, and benzyl alcohol were detected as the metabolites. Chemical decomposition studies suggested that parts of the oxidized products might be derived by air oxidation processes. A potential metabolite assumed to be N-ethylidene-1, 2-dihydroxy-3-phenylpropanamine oxide was also detected.
In this study, the push-pull structure polymer for organic photo voHaics (OPVs) was synthesized and characterized. The poly{4,8-didodecyloxybenzo[1,2-b;3,4-b]dithiophene-alt-5,6-bis(octyloxy)-4,7-di(thiophen-2-yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]-thiadiazole} (PDBDT-TBTD) was synthesized by Stille coupling reaction using the benzothiadiazole (BTD) derivative as an electron acceptor and benzodithiophene (BDT) derivative as an electron donor. The structure of monomers and polymers was identified by $^1H-NMR$ and GC-MS. The optical, physical and electrochemical properties of the conjugated polymer were identified by GPC, TGA, UV-Vis and cyclic voltammetry. The number average molecular weight ($M_n$) and initial decomposition temperature (5% weight loss temperature, $T_d$) of PDBDT-TBTD were 6200 and $323^{\circ}C$, respectively. The absorption maxima on the film was about 599 nm and the optical band gap was about 1.70 eV. The structure of device was ITO/PEDOT : PSS/PDBDT-TBTD : $PC_{71}BM/BaF_2/Ba/Al$. PDBDT-TBTD and $PC_{71}BM$ were blended with the weight ratio of 1:2 which were then used as an optical active layer. The power conversion efficiency (PCE) of fabricated device was measured by solar simulator and the best PCE was 2.1%.
This study compared the volatile aroma components in high grad Korea, Chinese and Japanese green tea. The aroma components of green tea were analyzed and compared. Aroma compared. Aroma compounds were extracted by a simultaneous distillation and extraction method using Likens and Nickerson's extraction apparatus. The concentrated aroma extract was analyzed and identified by GC and GC-MS. All the green tea samples contained relatively large amounts of terpene alcohols such as linalool, geraniol and nerolidol. The Korean green tea (A) manufactured in Cheju island contained remarkably large amounts of geraniol (9.12 %) and linalool (5.18 %). The Korean green tea (B) manufactured in Hawgae contained remarkably large amounts of geraniol (5.85 %) and linalool (5.33 %). The Korean green tea (C) manufactured in Bosung contained remarkably large amounts of linalool (7.79 %) and Z-jasmone (3.08 %). The Chinese green tea (D) manufactured in Longjing contained remarkably large amounts of geraniol (3.43 %) and linalool (2.86 %). The Japanese green tea (E) manufactured in Shizuoka contained remarkably large amoung of linalool (3.95 %) and nerolidol (2.76 %).
During our search for macrophage stimulating compounds from medicinal plants, we isolated biopolymers from Acanthopanax sessiliflorus. Isolated fraction AS-5 showed maximum potential, and stimulated lysosonal enzymatic activity by 230% at $300\;{\mu}g/ml$. The nitric oxide (NO) producing ability of AS-5 $100\;{\mu}g/ml$ was $58\;{\mu}M$ when treated with interferon-$\gamma$ and lipopolysaccharide $20\;{\mu}g/ml$. The lymphocyte proliferating effects of isolated biopolymer fractions were also investigated. Highest lymphoproliferative activity (a 2.8-fold enhancement compared to saline treated group was exhibited by AS-3 at $200\;{\mu}g/ml$ followed by AS-5 and AS-6. The AS-3 fraction stimulated only T-lymphocytes and had little or no effect on B-lymphocyte proliferation. Partially methylated alditol acetates were prepared to elucidate the glycosyl linkage-compositions of the AS-3 and AS-5 biopolymers, and were analyzed by GC-MS. The AS-3 and AS-5 biopolymer fractions were found to contain 2,3,4-tri-O-methyl-D-glucitol, 2,3,4-tri-O-methyl-D-galacitol 3,4,6-tri-O-methyl-galacitol, 2-O-methyl-arabinitol and 2,4,6-tri-O-methyl-D-glucitol, 2,3,6-tri-O-methyl-D-galacitol linkages, respectively.
