This paper presents the 2D/3D conversion technique using depth map which is generated based on the haze and relative height cue. In cases that only the conventional haze information is used, errors in image without haze could be generated. To reduce this kind of errors, a new approach is proposed combining the haze information with depth map which is constructed based on the relative height cue. Also the gray scale image from Mean Shift Segmentation is combined with depth map of haze information to sharpen the object's contour lines, upgrading the quality of 3D image. Left and right view images are generated by DIBR(Depth Image Based Rendering) using input image and final depth map. The left and right images are used to generate red-cyan 3D image and the result is verified by measuring PSNR between the depth maps.

Over the years, many researches have been performed to create 3D digital maps. Nevertheless, it is still time-consuming and involves a high cost because a large part of 3D digital mapping is conducted manually. To compensate this limitation, we propose methodologies to represent 3D objects as 3D symbols and locate these symbols into a base map automatically. First of all, we constructed the 3D symbol library to represent 3D objects as 3D symbols. In the 3D symbol library, the attribute and geometry information are stored, which defines factors related to the types of symbols and related to the shapes respectively. These factors were used to match 3D objects and 3D symbols. For automatic mapping of 3D symbols into a base map, we used predefined parameters such as the size, the height, the rotation angle and the center of gravity of 3D objects which are extracted from Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) data and 2D digital maps. Finally, the 3D map in urban area was constructed and the mapping results were tested using aerial photos as reference data. Through this research, we can identify that the developed the algorithms can be used as effective techniques for 3D digital cartographic techniques
In Korea, the use of world geodetic system(WGS) has been mandated in year 2010. Accordingly, the national geographic information institute(NGIS) provides the digital maps according to the WGS. Nevertheless, most of the digital geological maps are still based on the Tokyo Datum(TD). Therefore, users should conduct 2D/3D geological spatial analysis after converting the coordinates of digital geological maps to WGS. The conversion process is often tedious and troublesome for certain users. Therefore, in this study, the method to transform coordinate from TD to WGS using ArcToolbox is introduced for users not familiar with the process. For a better appreciation, the Chungju and Hwanggang-ri digital sheets of 1:50,000 scale was chosen as an example. Here, Chungju and Hwanggang-ri sheets were defined based on the TD-central origin and TD-east origin, respectively. The two sheets were merged after the transformation of TD-east origin of Hwanggang-ri to the TD-central origin, and eventually transformed to WGS-central origin. The merged map was found to match exactly with the digital map(Daeso 367041). The problem of coordinate determination in previous digital geological maps was solved effectively. The proposed method is believed to be helpful to 2D/3D geological spatial analysis of various geological thematic maps.
The extraction of 3D road network from high-resolution aerial images is still one of the current challenges in digital photogrammetry and computer vision. For many years, there are many researcher groups working for this task, but unt il now, there are no papers for doing this with TLS (Three linear scanner), which has been developed for the past several years, and has very high-resolution (about 3 cm in ground resolution). In this paper, we present a methodology of road extraction from high-resolution digital imagery taken over urban areas using this modern photogrammetry’s scanner (TLS). The key features of the approach are: (1) Because of high resolution of TLS image, our extraction method is especially designed for constructing 3D road map for next -generation digital navigation map; (2) for extracting road, we use the global context of the intensity variations associated with different features of road (i.e. zebra line and center line), prior to any local edge. So extraction can become comparatively easy, because we can use different special edge detector according different features. The results achieved with our approach show that it is possible and economic to extract 3D road data from Three Linear Scanner to construct next -generation digital navigation road map.

As raster-based high quality and resolution spatial information has appeared, 1/1,000 digital map lost either its recognition or uses because of insufficient new modified and updated information. Therefore, this study analyzed the linkage between three-dimensional spatial information and 1/1,000 digital map, and also suggested a modification plan of 1/1,000 digital map, made by three-dimensional spatial information. In fact, some area of Incheon and Busan were presented with the modification plan of 1/1,000 digital map as three-dimensional trial models. These trials reflected possibilities of modification by qualitative and quantitative analysis of 1/1,000 digital map, using three-dimensional object model.

Map update is required to provide up-to-date information. In update process, the most adequate generalization is to be applied to all scales of maps simultaneously. Most of existing maps are composed of 2D data and represented in 2D space. However, maps for next generation are to be generated with 3D spatial information including ortho-images and DEMs. Therefore, 3D generalization is necessary for 3D digital map update. This paper proposes methods for 3D generalization and correction for logical errors possibly accompanied with generalization.

The development of electronic technology brings the advent of GPS and electronic total station which measures, stores and records automatically angles, distances and 3d coordinates Electronic totalstation is the surveying equipment and system2000 is the supporting program that enables totals tation to get 3d terrain information, construction of the database and automatic drafting of the cartographic map. In this study, we aims at studying the system which can produce automatically the digital cartographic map by using total station and system2000. For this study, cartographic maps of a region are produced by total station and system2000, and then builded digital cartographic map on the autocad2000 environment and also we analysed two digital cartographic maps. As a results of this study, it is found that digital cartographic map by total station and system2000 are much more accurate and efficient than cartographic map by electronic plan table surveying.

Recently, rapid urbanization has necessitated continuous updates in digital map to provide the latest and accurate information for users. However, conventional aerial photogrammetry has some restrictions on periodic updates of small areas due to high cost, and as-built drawing also brings some problems with maintaining quality. Alternatively, this paper proposes a scheme for efficient and accurate update of digital map using point cloud data acquired by Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS). Initially, from the whole point cloud data, the building sides are extracted and projected onto a 2D image to trace out the 2D building footprints. In order to register the footprint extractions on the digital map, 2D Affine model is used. For Affine parameter estimation, the centroids of each footprint groups are randomly chosen and matched by means of a modified RANSAC algorithm. Based on proposed algorithm, the experimental results showed that it is possible to renew digital map using building footprint extracted from TLS data.
In this paper, major species of tree were discriminated in compartment by using LiDAR data and optic imagery. This is an important work in forest field. A current digital stock map has created the aerial photo and collecting survey data. Unlike high resolution imagery, LiDAR data is not influenced by topographic effects since it is an active sensory system. LiDAR system can measure three dimension information of individual tree. And the main methods of this study were to extract reliable the individual tree and analysis techniques to facilitate the used LiDAR data for calculating tree crown 2D parameter. We should estimate the forest inventory for calculating parameter. 2D parameter has need of area, perimeter, diameter, height, crown shape, etc. Eventually, major species of tree were determined the tree parameters, compared a digital stock map.

According to the development of technologies for generating the 3D spatial information, the needs for producing and updating the precise 3D objects with LoD 4 level are increased. On the other hand, the needs for real-time updating of 2D digital maps are expanded, based on the execution of various GIS projects. These 2D informations can be extracted from precisely constructed 3D spatial information, to do this the feasibility studies on extraction of the 2D information from the 3D spatial information is needed. In this study, 3D objects are modeled using multi-oblique images, and the objects are stereo-plotted using digital airborne images, as well. Then the two data sets are compared and analyzed. The results show that the accuracy assessments fulfill the 1/1,000 digital map accuracy standard of regulations for photogrametric surveying of National Geographic Information Institute, but the shapes and the areas of building objects are different between two data sets because of the portrayal standards. Consequently, researchers can conclude that it is possible to generate the building layer of large scale topographic map using multi-oblique images, but additional researches is needed to resolve the problems on differences of the portrayal standards.
