  • In this research, characteristics of air core rectangular spiral type inductors of ㎓ band are numerical analyzed. The basic structure of inductors is a rectangular spiral having 390${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$${\times}$390${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ size, 5.5 turns, line width of 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and line space of 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Frequency characteristics were simulated up to 10 ㎓. The substrate was modeled as Si, Sapphire, glass and GaAs and the conductor as Cu. The thickness of the conductor was fixed at 2. The number of turns was n.5 to make the input and output terminals to be on the opposite sides. The initial inductance of the basic inductor structure was 13.0 nH, maximum inductance 60.0 nH and resonance frequency 4.25 ㎓. As the dielectric constant of the substrate was increased, the initial inductance varied only slightly, but the resonance frequency decreased considerably. As the number of turns was varied from 1.5 to 9.5, the initial inductance was increased linearly from 2.9 nH to 15.9 nH and, then, saturated at 16.9 nH. The Q factor increased only slightly. The line width and line space of inductors were varied from 5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 20 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, which resulted in the decrease of the initial and maximum inductances. But the resonance frequency was increased. Q factor displayed an increase and a decrease, respectively, when the line width and line space were increased.

  • With increased human activity in space, the risk of re-entry and collision between space objects is constantly increasing. Hence, the need for space situational awareness (SSA) programs has been acknowledged by many experienced space agencies. Optical and radar sensors, which enable the surveillance and tracking of space objects, are the most important technical components of SSA systems. In particular, combinations of radar systems and optical sensor networks play an outstanding role in SSA programs. At present, Korea operates the optical wide field patrol network (OWL-Net), the only optical system for tracking space objects. However, due to their dependence on weather conditions and observation time, it is not reasonable to use optical systems alone for SSA initiatives, as they have limited operational availability. Therefore, the strategies for developing radar systems should be considered for an efficient SSA system using currently available technology. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the performance of a radar system in detecting and tracking space objects. With the radar system investigated, the minimum sensitivity is defined as detection of a $1-m^2$ radar cross section (RCS) at an altitude of 2,000 km, with operating frequencies in the L, S, C, X or Ku-band. The results of power budget analysis showed that the maximum detection range of 2,000 km, which includes the low earth orbit (LEO) environment, can be achieved with a transmission power of 900 kW, transmit and receive antenna gains of 40 dB and 43 dB, respectively, a pulse width of 2 ms, and a signal processing gain of 13.3 dB, at a frequency of 1.3 GHz. We defined the key parameters of the radar following a performance analysis of the system. This research can thus provide guidelines for the conceptual design of radar systems for national SSA initiatives.

  • Radar method can be effective in probing concrete structures damaged by earthquake. Data analysis is usually performed in time domain, by considering time delay of the wave due to the dielectric constant of concrete. In this study, improved data analysis has been performed using signal processing scheme of spectra analysis and filtering. Three antenna with 900MHz, 1㎓, and 1.5㎓ center frequency were used to detect a steel bar or delamination in specimens for obtaining data, Frequency spectrum was filtered in low pass, high pass, and band pass varying cutoff frequency with 1/3 octave in frequency domain. The most effective cutoff frequency for each frequency has been determined as the range for 2 octave lower to 1 octave higher and 2 octave lower to 1 octave lower. This result provided a basis in improving data analysis capability using frequency domain filtering.

  • The Solar Radio Burst Locator (SRBL) is a spectrometer that can observe solar microwave bursts over a wide band (0.1-18 GHz) as well as detect the burst locations without interferometry or mechanical scanning. Its prototype has been operated at Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO) since 1998. In this study, we have evaluated the capability of the SRBL system in flux and radio burst location measurements. For this, we consider 130 microwave bursts from 2000 to 2002. The SRBL radio fluxes of 53 events were compared with the fluxes from USAF/RSTN and the burst locations of 25 events were compared with the optical flare locations. From this study, we found: (1) there is a relatively good correlation (r = 0.9) between SRBL flux and RSTN flux; (2) the mean location error is about 8.4 arcmin and the location error (4.7 arcmin) of single source events is much smaller than that (14.9 arcmin) of multiple source events; (3) the minimum location error usually occurred just after the starting time of burst, mostly within 10 seconds; (4) there is a possible anti-correlation (r = -0.4) between the pointing error of SRBL antenna and the location error. The anti-correlation becomes more evident (r=-0.9) for 6 strong single source events associated with X-class flares. Our results show that the flux measurement of SRBL is consistent with that of RSTN, and the mean location error of SRBL is estimated to be about 5 arcmin for single source events.

  • This paper presents an implementation of a millimeter-wave(W band) multiflare-angle horn antenna. The proposed antenna is a multimode dual-polarized square horn having equal E- and H-plane beamwidths and consists of a multimode generating section, a four-square-waveguide exciter, orthomode transducers, and power combiners for the sum pattern formation. The antenna structure has been designed to allow for easy fabrication and the designed antenna has been fabricated to a precision of ${\pm}0.02mm$ by layer-by-layer machining and diffusion bonding. The input reflection coefficient and the radiation pattern of the fabricated antenna have been measured using a network analyzer and a far-field test facility. Measurements show that the proposed antenna has 17.7~18.3 dBi gain, $25.2{\sim}28.5^{\circ}$ beamwidth, and an input VSWR between 1.02~1.75, within ${\pm}0.5GHz$ from the center frequency.

  • In this paper, we propose a new distortion cancellation mechanism for a balanced power amplifier structure using the carrier cancellation loop of a feedforward and post-distortion technique. The proposed cross post-distortion balanced linear amplifier can reduce nonlinear components as much as the conventional feedforward amplifier through the output dynamic range and broad bandwidth. Also the proposed system provides higher efficiency than the feedforward. The capacities of power amplifier and error power amplifier in the proposed system are analyzed and compared with those of feedforward amplifier. Also the operation mechanisms of the three kind loops are explained. The proposed cross post-distortion balanced linear power amplifier is implemented at the IMT-2000($f_0=2.14\;GHz$) band. With the commercial high power amplifiers of total power of 240 W peak envelope power fer base-station application, the adjacent channel leakage ratio measurement with wideband code division multiple access 4FA signal shows 18.6 dB improvement at an average output power of 40 dBm. The efficiency of fabricated amplifier Improves about 2 % than the conventional feedforward amplifier.

  • In this paper, We has proposed two DGS(Defected Ground Structure) resonators and designed the low-pass filter using the proposed DGS types. This structure consists of two rectangular slots, a ‘II type’ slot on the ground plane, and the stub at the transmission line. It has strong advantages that can vary the return loss at the passband freely and also can easily tune the attenuation pole frequency at the stopband. For enhancing the poor skirt property at the cutoff frequency of the Single Stub ‘II Type’ DGS cell, we have obtained the steep slope attenuation characteristic by combining the rectangular slot on both sides of the DGS. This type of the LPF with the proposed structure can be made more smaller than the existing filters and be used to find the various applications for eliminating the hamonics and spurious mode at WLL and the 2.4 GHz ISM band systems.

  • The microwave dielectric properties of Ba(Mg$_{1}$3/Ta$_{2}$3/)O$_3$-xBa(Co$_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3/)O$_3$[BMT-BCN] ceramics were investigated. The specimens were prepared by the conventional mixed oxide method. It was found that Ba(Mg$_{1}$3/Ta$_{2}$3/)O$_3$ and Ba(Co$_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3/)O$_3$ formed a solid solution with complex perovskite structure. Increasing the BCN content, dielectric constant was increased, but temperature coefficient of resonant frequency was decreased. In the range of x$\geq$0.4, dielectric constant was about 30. 0.55BMT-0.45BCN ceramics showed excellent microwave dielectric properties with $\varepsilon$$_{r}$=30.84, Q$\times$f$_{0}$=75,325[GHz] and $\tau$$_{f}$=-2.9015[ppm/$^{\circ}C$].X>].

  • This paper proposes a new miniaturization method for a parallel coupled line filter with enhanced bandwidth characteristics. A previous method incorporated several advantages, such as size reduction through the use of only a small number of capacitors, in addition to grounding, suppression of harmonic characteristics, and improved skirt characteristics for the parallel coupled line filter, which is conventional in the field of RE filters due to its design and fabrication simplicity. However, the previous method also has disadvantages related to the bandwidth shrinkage of the miniaturized filters. In this paper, the amount of bandwidth shrinkage is analyzed in terms of the relationship between the loaded Q(quality factor) and the group delay of a resonator. Moreover, the reduction in the bandwidth is solved by a design with new design equations. To show the validity of the proposed method, a hairpin filter with a center frequency of 5.2 GHz and an fractional bandwidth(FBW) of 10% was scaled down to half its original dimension by the proposed method with the enhanced bandwidth characteristics. The measured result shows a high level of agreement with theoretical results.

  • Ocean Research Stations (ORSs) is the ocean platform type observation towers and measured oceanic, atmospheric and environmental data. These station located on the offshore area far from the coast, so they can produce the data without land effect. This study focused to improve the wave data quality of ORS station. The wave observations at ORSs are used by the C-band (5.8 GHz, 5.17 cm) MIROS Wave and Current Radar (MWR). MWR is convenient to maintenance and produce reliability wave data under bad weather conditions. MWR measured significant wave height, peak wave period, peak wave direction and 2D wave spectrum, so it's can provide wave information for researchers and engineers. In order to improve the reliability of MWR wave data, Datawell Waverider Buoy was installed near the one ORS (Socheoncho station) during 7 months and validate the wave data of MWR. This study found that the wave radar tend to be overestimate the low wave height under wind condition. Firstly, this study carried out the wave Quality Control (QC) using wind data, however the quality of wave data was limited. So, this study applied the four filters (Correlation Check, Direction Filter, Reduce White Noise and Phillips Check) of MWR operating software and find that the filters effectively improve the wave data quality. After applying 3 effective filters in combination, the RMSE of significant wave height decreased from 0.81m to 0.23m, by 0.58m and Correlation increased from 0.66 to 0.96, by 0.32, so the reliability of MWR significant wave height was significantly improved.
