This research has been conducted to investigate the characteristics of hydraulic behavior within the PAC contactor, the rectangular shape sedimentation basin without inclined tube and the other one with inclined tube those are parts of demonstration plants(capacity : $2,000m^3/d$) in Korea Institute of Water and Environment. As results of tracer tests, the flow within PAC contactor was evaluated to divided into plug flow and dead space distinctly, and characteristics of dead space was close to that of CSTR(Complete/continuous Stirred Tank Reactor). Also, considering Reynolds number, Froude number, Morill, Modal, NCSTR Inex and plug flow/mixed flow fraction, in the case of the rectangular shape sedimentation basin without inclined tube, the characteristics of flow pattern was close to CSTR. On the other hand, in the case of the basin with inclined tube, the region of CSTR decreased precisely compared with the case of no-tube. Until now we have recognized that the inclined hydraulic structure just reduces the surface loading rate within a sedimentation basin. Actually besides, the inclined structure have an important effect on the hydraulic behavior within the basin.

In order to find the excavating performance of water-jet nozzle on the sand, the authors were carried out the excavating experiment with the model nozzles which were semi circular sectioned nozzles and rectangular nozzle in water tank. The results were as follows. 1) Excavating maximum depth and width on the sand by the water jet were straightly increased in proportion to the velocity of water jet and the section area of nozzle, and that, by the nozzle distance from the excavating point on the sand, the depth was decreased, while the width was increased straightly. 2) Rectangular nozzle which the thick of hole is 1mm, was a little bit better than the circular nozzle of the same sectioned area on the excavating performance. 3) Empirical equations between the velocity of water jet, the distance of nozzle, and the maximum excavating depth and width by angle of nozzle were expressed as linear, they were as follows on the 45$^{\circ}$ angle of the rectangular nozzle(1$\times$12mm); D=0.0093V sub(0)-0.23H+5.7. W=0.0147V sub(0)+1.06H+10.2. where, D is the maximum excavating depth(cm), W is the maximum excavation width(cm), V sub(0) is the velocity of water jet(cm/s); 926$\leq$V sub(0)$\leq$1504, H is the distance(cm) from nozzle tip to water-jetted point on the surface of sand.

Recent growth in LNG market has led dramatic increase in new buildings of LNG carriers and several large LNG carriers are now being constructed by shipbuilders in Korea. Large size LNG carriers has brought keen concerns on the issue regarding safety of cargo containment systems and sloshing impact load which is the critical source of loads on the membrane type containment systems. Up to the present, the best way to properly assess sloshing impact pressures on surrounding walls is a model testing for wide-ranged excitation conditions. These impact pressures obtained from model tests sometimes need to be interpreted to full-scale values and in the near future this necessity will be strengthened for more rigorous and direct safety assessment of LNG cargo containment system. In this paper, a basic experimental study is carried out with two different sized, 2D identically shaped model tanks excited in simple translational motions. Relationships between pressures of different sized model tanks are investigated Model tanks are filled with fresh water and equipped with same sized pressure sensors.

A New concept for the LNG-FPSO ship, with moonpool and bilge step in bottom, is proposed. This concept is investigated with regard to motion reduction and sloshing phenomena of the cargo and operation tanks. The principal dimensions of the ship are $L\timesb B\times D\times t(design)=270.0\times51.0\times32.32\times13.7(m)$, with a total cargo capacity of 161KT; a 98% loading condition is considered for this study. The moonpools and rectangular step at the bilge have been designed for the purpose of decreasing the motion within the tank. For the motion analysis, linearized three-dimensional diffraction theory, with the simplified boundary condition was used. The six-degree of freedom coupled motion responses were calculated for the LNG-FPSO ship. Viscous effects on the roll motion responses of a vessel were taken into account in this calculation program, using an empirical formula suggested by Himeno(1981). The case study for the moonpool size has been conducted using theoretical estimation and the experimental method. For the optimization of the moonpool size and effect of the bilge step, 9 cases of its size, both with and without bilge step, were involved in the study. no motion responses, especially roll motion, for the designed LNG-FPSO ships are much lower than those of other drill ships and shuttle tankers. The limit criterions are satisfied. To check the cargo tank and operation tank sizes, we performed a sloshing analysis in the irregular waves which focuses on the pressure distribution on the tank wall and the time history of pressure and free surface for No.2 and 5 tanks of LNG-FPSO with chamfers. Finally, optimum tank sire was estimated.

Finally we got the tank size which has no resonance and no impact pressure in all filling in the bow quartering and beam sea.

This study focused on the roll motion characteristics of a two-dimensional (2D) rectangular floating structure under regular beam sea conditions. An experiment was conducted in a 2D wave tank for a roll free decay test in calm water and the roll motion in a range of regular waves with and without heave motion to investigate the motion response and heave influence on the roll motion. A numerical study was carried out using Reynolds-averaged Navier Stokes (RANS)-based CFD simulations. A grid convergence test was conducted to accurately capture the wave condition on the free surface based on the overset mesh and wave forcing method. It was found in the roll free decay test that the numerical results agreed well with the experimental results for the natural roll period and roll damping coefficient. It was also observed that the heave motion had an impact on the roll motion, and the responses of the heave and roll motion from the CFD simulations were in reasonable agreement with those from the experiment.

In the present study, we proposed a new numerical wave tank model to analyze the vertical tension-leg circular floating bodies, using a 2-D Navier-Stokes solver. An IBM(Immersed Boundary Method) capable of handling interactions between waves and moving structures with complex geometry on a standard regular Cartesian grid system is coupled to the VOF(Volume of Fluid) method for tracking the free surface. Present numerical results for the motions of the floating body were compared with existing experimental data as well as numerical results based on FAVOR(Fractional Area Volume Obstacle Representation) algorithm. For detailed examinations of the present model, the additional hydraulic experiments for floating motions and free surface transformations were conducted. Further, the versatility of the proposed numerical model was verified via the numerical and physical experiments for the general rectangular floating bodies. Numerical results were compared with experiments and good agreement was archived.

The effluent quality is directly affected by the separation of biological solids in a final clarifier because the majority of discharged $BOD_5$ and SS are virtually dependent on the results of biological solids in the sedimentation tank effluent. If a final clarifier is effectively designed and operated, the desired goal of clarification for wastewater can be achieved together with the cost reduction in the treatment of wastewater. To this end flow characteristics and the removal efficiency of SS are numerically investigated especially by the change of the inlet position and the installation of baffle to improve the performance of a rectangular final clarifier. The 2-D computer program developed in a rectangular coordinates has been successfully validated against experimental residence time distribution(RTD) curves obtained by tracing radio-isotope. The lowering of the inlet position weakens the density current and induces the settling of SS in the front zone of a clarifier. Thus the decreased traveling distance of the sludge increases the removal efficiency of SS in the effluent. The inlet baffle installed in the front region of clarifier prevents the short circuiting flow and induces to flow into the dense underflow, which eventually improves the effluent quality. In the case of lower inlet position, however, installation of baffle results in degradation of effluent quality. Consequently it is strongly recommended that in-depth numerical study be performed in advance for optimizing a clarifier design and retrofitting to improve effluent quality in a final clarifier.
In order to make clear the resistance of bag nets, the resistance R of bag nets with wall area S designed in pyramid shape was measured in a circulating water tank with control of flow velocity v and the coefficient k in $R=kSv^2$ was investigated. The coefficient k showed no change In the nets designed in regular pyramid shape when their mouths were attached alternately to the circular and square frames, because their shape in water became a circular cone in the circular frame and equal to the cone with the exception of the vicinity of frame in the square one. On the other hand, a net designed in right pyramid shape and then attached to a rectangular frame showed an elliptic cone with the exception of the vicinity of frame in water, but produced no significant difference in value of k in comparison with that making a circular cone in water. In the nets making a circular cone in water, k was higher in nets with larger d/l, ratio of diameter d to length I of bars, and decreased as the ratio S/S_m$ of S to the area $S_m$ of net mouth was increased or as the attack angle 9 of net to the water flow was decreased. But the value of ks15m was almost constant in the region of S/S_m=1-4$ or $\theta=15-90^{\circ}$ and in creased linearly in S/S_m>4 or in $\theta<15^{\circ}$ However, these variation of k could be summarized by the equation obtained in the previous paper. That is, the coefficient $k(kg\;\cdot\;sec^2/m^4)$ of bag nets was expressed as $$k=160R_e\;^{-01}(\frac{S_n}{S_m})^{1.2}\;(\frac{S_m}{S})^{1.6}$$ for the condition of $R_e<100$ and $$k=100(\frac{S_n}{S_m})^{1.2}\;(\frac{S_m}{S})^{1.6}$$ for $R_e\geq100$, where $S_n$ is their total area projected to the plane perpendicular to the water flow and $R_e$ the Reynolds' number on which the representative size was taken by the value of $\lambda$ defined as $$\lambda={\frac{\pi d^2}{21\;sin\;2\varphi}$$ where If is the angle between two adjacent bars, d the diameter of bars, and 21 the mesh size. Conclusively, it is clarified that the coefficient k obtained in the previous paper agrees with the experimental results for bag nets.

A split beam ultrasonic transducer operating at a frequency of 70 kHz to use in the fish sizing echo sounder was developed and the acoustic radiation characteristics were experimentally analyzed. The amplitude shading method utilizing the properties of the Chebyshev polynomials was used to obtain side lobe levels below -20 dB and to optimize the relationship between main beam width and side lobe level of the transducer, and the amplitude shading coefficient to each of the elements was achieved by changing the amplitude contribution of elements with 4 weighting transformers embodied in the planar array transducer assembly. The planar array split beam transducer assembly was composed of 36 piezoelectric ceramics (NEPEC N-21, Tokin) of rod type of 10 mm in diameter and 18.7 mm in length of 70 kHz arranged in the rectangular configuration, and the 4 electrical inputs were supplied to the beamformer. A series of impedance measurements were conducted to check the uniformity of the individual quadrants, and also in the configurations of reception and transmission, resonant frequency, and the transmitting and receiving characteristics were measured in the water tank and analyzed, respectively. The results obtained are summarized as follows : 1. Average resonant and antiresonant frequencies of electrical impedance for four quadrants of the split beam transducer in water were 69.8 kHz and 83.0 kHz, respectively. Average electrical impedance for each individual transducer quadrant was 49.2$\Omega$ at resonant frequency and 704.7$\Omega$ at antiresonant frequency. 2. The resonance peak in the transmitting voltage response (TVR) for four quadrants of the split beam transducer was observed all at 70.0 kHz and the value of TVR was all about 165.5 dB re 1 $\mu$Pa/V at 1 m at 70.0 kHz with bandwidth of 10.0 kHz between -3 dB down points. The resonance peak in the receiving sensitivity (SRT) for four combined quadrants (quad LU+LL, quad RU+RL, quad LU+RU, quad LL+RL) of the split beam transducer was observed all at 75.0 kHz and the value of SRT was all about -177.7 dB re 1 V/$\mu$Pa at 75.0 kHz with bandwidth of 10.0 kHz between -3 dB down points. The sum beam transmitting voltage response and receiving senstivity was 175.0 dB re 1$\mu$Pa/V at 1 m at 75.0 kHz with bandwidth of 10.0 kHz, respectively. 3. The sum beam of split beam transducer was approximately circular with a half beam angle of $9.0^\circ$ at -3 dB points all in both axis of the horizontal plane and the vertical plane. The first measured side lobe levels for the sum beam of split beam transducer were -19.7 dB at $22^\circ$ and -19.4 dB at $-26^\circ$ in the horizontal plane, respectively and -20.1 dB at $22^\circ$ and -22.0 dB at $-26^\circ$ in the vertical plane, respectively. 4. The developed split beam transducer was tested to estimate the angular position of the target in the beam through split beam phase measurements, and the beam pattern loss for target strength corrections was measured and analyzed.
