Control of Phythophthora capsici and Residual Characteristics by the Pesticides Tank-Mixed in Tomato Hydroponic Culture System (농약의 양액 탱크내 혼합처리에 의한 토마토 역병 방제 효과 및 잔류 특성)

  • To control effectively and safely Phytophthora root rot caused by Phytophthora capsici on tomato in hydroponic culture, tank-mixing method was considered with two pesticides, metalaxyl copper oxychloride 50% WP and dimethomorph dithianon 38% WP. Forty days after transplanting of tomato seedlings, 4 mL of sporangia of P. capsici (about 25 sporangi/mL) per plot was inoculated around tomato plant roots, and at 5 days after inoculation, the pesticides tank-mixed at three dilution levels, 12,500, 25,000 and 50,000, were drenched 1, 2 or 3 times per plot on the culture cube every 15 days for metalaxyl copper oxychloride 50% WP and every 10 days for dimethomorph dithianon 38% WP. During the drenching period, the residue levels of metalaxyl and dimethomorph in hydroponic culture solution were similar to the initial levels but the level of dithianon was drastically decreased from one day after tank-mixing. In tomato drenched with metalaxyl copper oxychloride 50% WP, metalaxyl was detected $0.02\sim0.04$ mg/kg in all diluted plots. Dimethomorph was detected $0.012\sim0.021$, $0.001\sim0.006$ and $0.001\sim0.003$ mg/kg in 12,500, 25,000 and 50,000 times diluted plots, respectively, while dithianon was detected 0.005, 0.003 mg/kg in 12,500 and 50,000 times diluted plots, respectively. The detection levels of three pesticides were far below compared with the levels of Korean MRLs. Incidences of Phytophthora root rot were not found in all the plots, but phytotoxic responses were recognized in the 12,500 times diluted plots of both pesticides. Based on the above results, the drenching of the culture solution tank-mixed with these pesticides could be recommended as a very safe and effective method to control Phytophthora root rot in tomato in hydroponic culture.

  • In wireless sensor networks, reliable event detection is one of the most important research issues. For the reliable event detection, previous works usually assume the events are only individual objects such as tanks and soldiers. Recently, many researches focus on detection of continuous objects such as wild fire and bio-chemical material, but they merely aim at methods to reduce communication costs. Hence, we propose a reliable continuous object detection scheme. However, it might not be trivial. Unlike individual objects that could be referred as a point, a continuous object is shown in a dynamic two-dimensional diagram since it may cover a wide area and it could dynamically alter its own shape according to physical environments, e.g. geographical conditions, wind, and so on. Hence, the continuous object detection reliability can not be estimated by the indicator for individual objects. This paper newly defines the reliability indicator for continuous object detection and proposes an error recovery mechanism relying on the estimation result from the new indicator.

  • Hydroponic culture has been developed to control soilborn diseases, to increase yield and to enhance the quality of vegetable, The pathogen could be detected from infected plant materials, hydroponic tanks, culture solution and solid media of the severely infected greenhouse, The density of pathogen population was coincided with the severity of disease incidence, For example, 1,900cfu m$L^{-1}$ pf pathogens were counted from tomato plants sampled in a 20% diseased greenhouse. The pathogens may be introduced in the greenhouse through the contaminated soil surrounding the house and/or through the infected young seedlings grown on the nursery soil. Also, not detected to Ralstonia solanacearum from tomato seeds (House Momotaro, Bbaebbae, Ggoggo, and Minicarol cultivar) selling at a market.

  • A Study on Typical Rates of Water-use for School Facilities has been carried out in this work. Water supply system is given much weight in school facilities. Therefore, it set up a basis efficiency using of water sources to calculate typical rates of water use. The results are summarized as follows; 1) On the whole, typical rates of water-use was founded out 15 L/stu. d in pirmary school, 10 L/stu. d in middle school and 30 L/stu. d in high school smaller than the existing it. It was rate of water-use change as season and Max. Rates of water-use was July. 2) I deem that school hours are 5 hour's in primary school, 7 hour's in middle school and 8 hour's in high school. It the concept of 1 hour that is lesson time 40 minutes and resting time 10 minutes in primary school, lesson time 45 minutes and resting time 10 minutes in middle school and lesson time 50 minutes and resting time 10 minutes in high school. 3) It is desired that we calculate the volume of pump and water tank throughout this concept and the size of water tank should be 1.5 times with taking peak load into consideration by this study on typical rate of water-use. 4) The amount of using water increases in gradually and I consider the life cycle of facilities is more than 10 years. As a result, I can forecast that the size will be insufficiency but I deem that if we devise a plan about parallel pumping on water tank space, we can cope with it. Also, it is expected that we can cut back the transport energy by controlling pump volume.

  • Chemical accidents caused by transport vehicles account for 20% of all chemical accidents every year, but there are difficulties in the accident-response process due to repeated situations where the impact assessment information is unknown. In this study, we developed a calculation table and formula for predicting the range of damage for chlorine and hydrogen fluoride, which have a high domestic usage, high risk of accidents, and high accident frequency in the last 7 years. The calculation table is based on the leakage rate, wind speed, and temperature, and the calculation formula was derived using R software for special situations where it is difficult to apply the calculation table. The calculation table and formula could be used on site by related organizations to obtain important information for decision making, which could help in minimizing damage from chemical accidents, setting separation distances, and deciding to evacuate residents.

  • When a body starts to move, the flow near the intersection point between a body and a free surface changes violently and rapidly in a very short initial time interval. This flow phenomena must be investigated whenever one treats the interaction between a body and a fluid, such as the motion of a floating body, sloshing in a tank, wave maker problem, entry of a body into a fluid etc.. Until Roberts(1987), it was widely accepted that a singularity exists at the intersection point. However, he showed that the singularity does not exist if a body moves non-impulsively. In this paper, an analytical solution cosistent for the case of impulsive motion of a body is obtained by including the effect of surface tension. From the characteristics of the newly obtained solution, a critical value associated with an oscillating phenomenon is found, and further more, it is shown that the oscillating phenomenon does not appear in the region where the distance form the intersection point is less than this critical value.

Reduction of Stem Inside-cavity and Improvement of Flower Quality in Chrysanthemum 'Baekma' by pH Stabilization and Foliar Spray of Ethephon (양액 pH 안정화와 에세폰 살포에 의한 국화 '백마'의 줄기동공 경감과 절화품질 향상)

  • This study was conducted to investigate effects of nutrient solution pH control agent and foliar spray of ethephon on the reduction of stem inside-cavity and improvement of flower quality in chrysanthemum 'Baekma'. Changes of pH in nutrient solution as affected by the kind of pH control agent showed more settled pattern in the plot of KOH treatment than in others. Plant growth and development such as cut flower length, leaf numbers, cut flower weight and petal number were the greatest in the plot of KOH. However, the size and area of stem cavity was large in KOH rather than $KHCO_3$. As changes in the absorbing patterns of mineral elements as affected by nutrient solution pH control agent in closed system, contents of total nitrate, phosphorus, potassium and calcium by $KHCO_3$ was absorbed into the plant less than KOH, so that it remained a lot of mineral element residues rather than KOH in closed system. Plant growth as affected by the foliar spray of ethephon showed growth retardation effect in the plot of solution diluted to 1 : 500 and growth promotion effect in the plot of solution diluted to 1 : 1,000 or 1 : 2,000. The number of petals was the best in the plot of foliar spray of ethephon solution diluted to 1 : 1,000 before flowering at 45 days showing 331 petals compared to control showing 302 petals. The size and area of stem cavity as affected the foliar spray of ethephon was smaller 1 mm and 7%, respectively, in the plot of solution diluted to 1 : 2,000 before flowering at 30 days than in control. Therefore, treating pH stabilization using KOH after floral initiation stage with the foliar spray of ethephon solution diluted to 1 : 2,000 before flowering at 30 days would help to reduce stem cavity size and improve flower quality in hydroponically grown chrysanthemum 'Baekma'.

  • $CO_2$ is non-flammable, non-toxic gas and not cause of chemical explosion. However, various impurities and some oxides can be included in the captured $CO_2$ inevitably. While the $CO_2$ gas was temporarily stored, the pressure in a storage tank would be reached above 100bar. Therefore, the tank could occur a physical explosion due to the corrosion of vessel or uncertainty. Evaluating the intensity of explosion can be calculated by the TNT equivalent method generally used. To describe the physical explosion, it is assumed that the capacity of a $CO_2$ temporary container is about 100 tons. In this work, physical explosion damage in a $CO_2$ storage tank is estimated by using the Hopkinson's scaling law and the injury effect of human body caused by the explosion is assessed by the probit model.

  • Oxygen depleted water mass can damage aquatic animals not only in direct way but also in indirect way by generating toxic substances including occurrence of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia which are also highly detrimental to animal life in the water mass. An oxygen dissolution device was developed, which makes turnover of the oxygen rich (over 20 mg/L) surface water down to the bottom where hypoxia is evident and tested the device in terms of oxygen recovery in the oxygen depleted bottom water. the device with turnover rates of $3.6\;m^2$/min at the liquid oxygen injection rate of 48~26.3 L/min could recover dissolved oxygen level to 7~25 mg/L at depth 7 m to lead to the dissolution level of over 90% by the supply of liquid oxygen. The running advantage of the device is that it does not require any auxiliary tank and higher energy for operation. Therefore, it can be highly useful device to relieve damages to the farmed animals in the oxygen depleted waters.

  • The monthly distribution of marine bacteria in the coastal waters of Chung-Mu was investigated from April, 1976 to March, 1977. The aim of this study was to obtain basic data for the prevention of food poisoning and for the efficient aquaculture of the area. Samples of sea water, mud, fish and shell fish were taken every month. The results are as follows: 1. One thousand four hundred and twenty-six strains were isolated from 732 samples of sea water, mud, fish and shell fish. They were 450 strains of Pseudomonas fluorescens, 422 strains of Achromobacter liquefacience, 72 strains of Vibrio parahaemolyticus, 234 strain of Vibrio alginolyticus, and 248 strains of Proteus vulgaris. 2. V. parahaemolyticus occupied $9.84\%$ of the total samples and $52\%$ of them were found in the sea water and mud. 3. The muds sampled districtly beneath the aquaculture raft contained much gas. They seemed to originate from the deposition of excretion of shell fish. The fatness of the shell fish was low where the gas was abundant. 4. It was .found that the shell fish with low fatness contained much Vibrio sp. 5. Regional distribution shows that marine bacteria were abundant in the order of station 10, 9, 8, 11, 1. The area around station 9 was polluted by reclamation of the area, and station 8 showed the influence of the excrement treat tank located nearly.
