  • This paper concerns the study of a two-stage binary absorption cycle employing the refrigerant/absorbent combinations of $LiBr/H_2O$ and $NH_3/H_2O$. This cycle consists of coupling two single-effect absorption cycles so that the first stage absorber and condenser produces heating water to evaporate refrigerant in the evaporator of the second stage. The effect of operating variables such as evaporator temperature, condenser and absorber temperature, and generator temperature on the coefficient of performance and temperature lift have been studied for two-stage binary absorption heat pump systems. It is found that this cycle has a large temperature lift at $105^{\circ}C$ of optimum generator temperature to obtain $50^{\circ}C$ of condenser temperature.

  • The paper presents an analysis of the heating cycle and discusses a desalination cycle that uses lowtemperature seawater. The basic heating cycle model is the heat pump cycle, and seawater desalination is usually performed by the indirect freezing desalination method. The low temperature of the seawater (below $5^{\circ}C$) acts as the heat source of the evaporator. R-134a, R-1234yf, R-600a are used as working fluids. In the 2-stage compression cycle, the compressor's work decreased by about 15.6% from that in the 1-stage compression cycle. Further, the COP in the 2-stage cycle was 17.6% higher than that in the 1-stage cycle. In the indirect desalination cycle, the energy per unit fresh water productivity in the 2-stage cycle was 19.8% lower than that in the 1-stage cycle.

  • Cycle simulaton of the double effect parallel flow model is applied to a Lithium-Bromide/water system, with the objective of evaluation the possibilities of effectively utilizing waste-heat as a secondary heat source for the low-temperature generator. In this study, cycle simulation has been carried out to clarify the effect heat exchange in order to predict the performance of absorption refrigeration cycles using waste heat.

Simulation of an Absorption Power Cycle for Maximizing the Power Output of Low-Temperature Geothermal Power Generation (저온 지열발전의 출력 극대화를 위한 흡수식 동력 사이클의 시뮬레이션)

  • In this study, an absorption power cycle, which can be used for a low-temperature heat source driven power cycle such as geothermal power generation, was investigated and optimized in terms of power by the simulation method. A steady-state simulation model was adopted to analyze and optimize its performance. Simulations were carried out for the given heat source and sink inlet temperatures, and the given flow rates were based on the typical power plant thermal-capacitance-rate ratio. The cycle performance was evaluated for two independent variables: the ammonia fraction at the separator inlet and the maximum cycle pressure. Results showed that the absorption power cycle can generate electricity up to about 14 kW per 1 kg/s of heat source when the heat source temperature, heat sink temperature, and thermal-capacitance-rate ratio are $100^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$, and 5, respectively.

  • Feature detection is recognized as an accurate spectrum sensing approach when the information of the desired signal is partly known at the receiver. This type of detection was proposed to overcome large noise environment. Cyclostationary detection is an example of feature detection in spectrum sensing technique in cognitive radio. However, the cyclostationary process calculation requires a lot of processing time and information about the designed signals. On the other hand, energy detection spectrum sensing is widely known as a simple and compact spectrum sensing technique. However, energy detection is highly affected by large noise and lead to high detection error probability. In this paper, the combination of energy detection and cyclostationary is proposed in order to increase the accuracy and decrease the calculation and processing time. The two-layer threshold is utilized in order to reduce the complexity of computation and processing time in cyclostationary which can lead to the improved throughput of the system. The simulation result shows that the implementation of energy-based cyclostationary detector can help to improve the performance of the system while it can considerably reduce the required time for signal detection.

Basic performance analysis of ocean thermal energy conversion using the refrigerant mixture R32/R152a (R32/R152a 혼합냉매를 적용한 해양온도차발전의 기초성능해석)

  • In this paper, performance characteristics of cycles were studied when mixed working fluid was used for ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC). Among the various mixed refrigerants for industrial heat-pump, R32/R152a used in ocean thermal energy conversion system. For simulations, R32/R152a were used in existing closed cycle and Kalina cycle which is used only ammonia and water as mixed refrigerant. Temperature of the warm heat source was 26 and 29 celsius degree, temperature of the cold heat source was 5 celsius degree. In results of simulation, Gross power of the closed cycle on R32 was 22kW, and efficiency of the cycle was 2.02%. When the mixed refrigerant of R32/R152a, in the ratio of 90 to 10, gross power of the closed cycle was 29.93kW, and efficiency of the cycle was 2.78%. Gross power and cycle efficiency of R32/R152a increased by 36% and 37% than those of existing single refrigerant. Additionally, the same simulations were conducted in Kalina cycle with the same various composition ratio of mixed refrigerant.

  • These days the closed cycle gas turbine attracts considerable attention due to : (1) The possibility of directly coupling the closed cycle gas turbine with a high temperature gas cooled reactor ; (2) the economical use of dry coolers to reduce the thermal charge of the environment ; and (3) the reduction of pollution and energy consumption, by replacing the domestic hearth by a central heating and power station. In this paper, we selected the optimal cycle from the characteristic of thermodynamic cycle for the optimal design of closed CO$_{2}$ gas turbine cycle usuable in nuclear energy power plant. Also the effects of between the parameters and thermal efficiency were investigated by computer simulation. These results and design data will be added to basics in optimal designing closed CO$_{2}$ cycle gas turbine plant.

Proposal of Minimum Spanning Tree Algorithm using 2-Edges Connected Grap (2-간선 연결 그래프를 사용한 최소신장트리 알고리즘 제안)

  • This paper suggests a fast minimum spanning tree algorithm which simplify the original graph to 2-edge connected graph, and using the cycling property. Borůvka algorithm firstly gets the partial spanning tree using cycle property for one-edge connected graph that selects the only one minimum weighted edge (e) per vertex (v). Additionally, that selects minimum weighted edge between partial spanning trees using cut property. Kruskal algorithm uses cut property for ascending ordered of all edges. Reverse-delete algorithm uses cycle property for descending ordered of all edges. Borůvka and Kruskal algorithms always perform |e| times for all edges. The proposed algorithm obtains 2-edge connected graph that selects 2 minimum weighted edges for each vertex firstly. Secondly, we use cycle property for 2-edges connected graph, and stop the algorithm until |e|=|v|-1 For actual 10 benchmark data, The proposed algorithm can be get the minimum spanning trees. Also, this algorithm reduces 60% of the trial number than Borůvka, Kruskal and Reverse-delete algorithms.

A study on the comparative test of chemical and thermal properties of virgin and recycled PET products (버진 및 리사이클 PET 제품의 화학적·열적 특성 비교시험에 관한 연구)

  • As the interest and demand in the recycled yarn field has increased rapidly worldwide, domestic companies are also promoting research and development and business on recycled yarn. The chemical and thermal properties of four types of virgin and recycled PET samples from A and B company, which are the leading domestic companies in the recycled polyester yarn business, were confirmed through infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Virgin and recycled PET from two companies were compared. FT-IR spectroscopy revealed the typical spectra of PET for both companies and a different peak at 872 cm-1. DSC confirmed that the melting point and crystallization temperature of recycled PET were lower than those of virgin PET. These results indicate that small amounts of contaminants are an important parameter affecting the thermal properties of recycled PET. In the DSC results after seven repeats of the heating and cooling processes, all four samples showed that a lower melting point, crystallization temperature, and low heat flow intensity increased with increasing number of cycles. The results of melting and crystallization enthalpy also showed similar patterns.
