Determination of 2, 4-D and 2, 4, 5-T in River Water and Drinking Water by Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS를 이용한 수질시료 중 2, 4-D와 2, 4, 5-T의 분석에 관한 연구)

  • Chlorophenoxy acids are one of the most useful classes of chlorinated herbicides. Specially 2, 4-D and 2, 4, 5-T were known to endocrine distruptors. In this study, these pesticides in water samples were extracted by liquid-liquid extration at acidic conditions and then derivatization of acidic group was carried out various esterifications using by CH$_3$I/Acetone -K$_2$CO$_3$, H$_2$SO$_4$/MeOH or TFAA/TFE. That result, Sensitivities of TFE derivatized 2, 4-D and 2, 4, 5-T are prior to the others. The recoveries of 2, 4-D and 2, 4, 5-T were 98% and 82% respectively using diethyl ether as an extracting solvent.

Effects of Inverse Lighting and Diet with Soy Oil on Growth Performance and Short Chain Fatty Acid of Broiler Exposed to Extreme Heat Stress (대두유 사료와 역전점등이 폭염 육계의 짧은 사슬지방산 및 성장능력에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effects of feeding the broilers that are exposed to extreme heat stress (EHS, $33{\pm}2^{\circ}C$) with extreme heat stress diet (EHSD) containing adequate amount of soy oil and other nutrients on their growth performance. 500 broiler chickens (Ross 308) were randomized into five dietary treatment groups according to a randomized block design on the day they were hatched. Each group was further divided into four repeat pens with each repeat pen comprising 25 chickens. The five dietary treatment groups were: T1 (Normal ambient condition + basal diet (BD), T2 (EHS +BCD), T3 (EHS + extreme heat stress diet (EHSD) prepared from BD with tallow replaced with soy oil and containing molasses 2%), T4 (EHS + EHSD prepared from BD with tallow replaced with soy oil and containing molasses 2% and methionine and lysine of 1.5 times greater quantities than in BD), and T5 (EHS + EHSD prepared from BD with tallow replaced with soy oil and containing molasses 2%, methionine and lysine of 1.5 times greater quantities than in BD, and vitamin C 200 ppm) with inverse lighting. The body weight gain of the broilers increased significantly in T4 and T5 as compared with that in T1 and T2. Weights of the lymphoid organ, bursa of Fabricius, thymus, and spleen were similar between all groups. Serum concentrations of IgG, IgG and IgM were higher in T4 and T5 than inT1 and T2, but the corticosterone concentration decreased significantly in them. In T4 and T5, Lactobacillus in the cecum increased, but Escherichia, coliform, and total aerobic bacteria decreased rather significantly, compared with those in T1 and T2. Contents of acetic acid, propionic acid and total SCFA were significantly higher in T4 and T5 than in T1 and T2.

Radiotherapy for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (비인강암의 방사선치료 성적)

  • Purpose: To evaluate the results of radiation management on recurrence, survival and prognostic factors of patients with nasopharyngeal cancer Materials and Methods: Forty-nine patients, treated for nasopharyngeal cancer by radiotherapy between January 1984 and June 2000, were retrospectively studied. All patients were followed up for at least 2.5 years. Their median age was 52 years (range 17$\~$78). The histological types were 21 squamous cell carcinoma, 25 undifferentiated carcinoma, and 3 adenoid cystic carcinoma. The tumor stages were as follows: T1 in 14 patients, T2 in 24, T3 in 3, and T4 in 8, and N0 in 17 patients, Nl in 15, N2 in 4 and N3 in 13. Stages I, IIa, IIb ,III, IV and IVb were 4, 7, 12, 5, 8, and 13 patients respectively. Radiation doses of 58$\~$70 Gy (median 68.7 Gy) were given to the nasopahryngeal and involved lymphatic areas and of 46 $\~$ 50 Gy to the uninvolved neck areas. Results: The overall 5 and 10-year actuarial and disease free survival rates were 54.53$\%$ and 47$\%$ and 55.7$\%$ and 45.3$\%$, respectively The overall five-year survival rates were 100$\%$ in stage I , 80$\%$ in stage IIa, 59.5$\%$ in stage IIIb, 40$\%$ in stage III, and 42.2$\%$ in stage IV tumors. Twenty-three patients fatted either loco-regionally or distantly. Incidences of local failure, regional failure and distant metastasis for the first failure were 20.4$\%$, 8.2$\%$ and 20.4$\%$, respectively. Local recurrences were 4.3$\%$ in T1, 12.5$\%$ in T2, 0$\%$ in T3, and 62.5$\%$ in T4 lesions. Distant metastasis was seen in 41.2$\%$ of N2-3 lesions. Fifty percent of local recurrence appeared within 2 years of treatment at the primary lesion, whereas 70$\%$ of distant metastasis appeared within 2 years following treatment. Young age, female, early T stage, N0 stage; and poorly differentiated carcinoma were all related with good survival. However only stage showed statistically significance. Conclusionn: Based on the results of this study, radiation therapy to nasopharyngeal cancer showed high local recurrence in T4 and increased metastasis in N2-3 lesions. To improve local failure, further radiation doses, such as stereotactic radiation or IMRT radiation, are necessary especially in T4 lesions. The high incidence of distant metastasis in positive lymph node patients, indicates that combined radiation and effective chemotherapeutic agents with appropriated schedule are necessary.

  • 1,1-Bis(n-butyl)-2,3,4,5-tetraphenyl-1-silacyclopentadiene (3) and 1,1-bis(t-butyl)-2,3,4,5-tetraphenyl-1-silacyclopentadiene (4) are synthesized from the reaction of the versatile silole dianion (2) with n-butyl bromide and t-butyl bromide. Reduction of (3) and (4) with an excess of lithium to give 1,1-bis(n-butyl)-2,5-dilithio-2,3,4,5-tetraphenyl-1-silacyclopenta-3-enide (6) and 1,1-bis(t-butyl)-2,5-dilithio-2,3,4,5-tetraphenyl-1-silacyclopenta-3-enide (7). $^{13}C$-NMR study of two 2,5-carbodianions (6 and 7) shows tert-carbanion at 73.18 and 78.12 ppm respectively. Two bulky tert-butyl groups in (7) increase the inversion barrier at the tert-carbanion, line broadenings of tert-butyl groups in $^1H$ and $^{13}C$-NMR spectrum are observed.

Age-related Changes in Luteinizing Hormone and Testosterone Levels in Korean Men (한국 남성의 혈중 Luteinizing Hormone과 Testosterone 수준의 연령-관련 변화)

  • Changes in luteinizing hormone (LH), serum testosterone (T), and salivary T levels with age were examined in Korean men. Serum was obtained from 167 Korean men of different ages ($20{\sim}69\;y$), and the serum LH and T levels were measured. Saliva samples were also obtained, and the salivary T level was determined. The LH levels did not change considerably until 40 y of age (20s, $2.5{\pm}1.0$; 30s, $2.7{\pm}1.5$; and 40s, $2.5{\pm}1.8\;mIU/mL$) but increased significantly around 50 y (50s, $3.7{\pm}1.8$ and 60s, $3.1{\pm}1.7\;mIU/mL$). Further, the serum T levels also did not change until 40 y of age (20s, $5.3{\pm}2.6$, 30s, $4.4{\pm}1.4$, 40s, $4.1{\pm}1.5\;ng/mL$) but decreased significantly at 50 y (50s, $3.4{\pm}1.5$; 60s, $2.6{\pm}0.8\;ng/mL$). The salivary T levels also showed small changes until the age of 40 y ($20s{\sim}40s$, $0.11{\pm}0.015\;ng/mL$) but decreased significantly at 50 y ($0.08{\pm}0.03\;ng/mL$). Thus, the relative ratio of salivary T to serum T levels did not change significantly in all the ages examined ($2.4{\pm}0.9%$). Linear regression analysis predicted that the LH levels increased 1.5%/y while the serum and salivary T levels decreased 1%/y and 0.8%/y, respectively. The serum T/LH ratio did not change considerably until the age of 40 y ($20s{\sim}40s$, $2.27{\pm}0.14$) but decreased significantly ($1.2{\pm}1.0$) at 50 y. Age-related changes in the salivary T/LH ratio were very similar to those in the serum T/LH ratio. These results demonstrated that LH and T levels in serum or saliva did not change considerably until 40 y of age; instead, in Korean men, from 50 y of age, the LH level increased, while the T level decreased. This suggests that primary testicular failure that occurred due to aging (approximately 50 y) and caused this phenomenon. The present study also shows that the salivary T level can be an indicator of the free T level in serum although the salivary T level correlates weakly with the total T level in serum (r=0.53). Thus, information regarding salivary T levels may be useful for studying the age-related changes occurring in male testicular physiology.

  • 18 boreholes with nitrate contaminated were selected. Samples were collected 4 times between both 1995 and 1996. Stable nitrogen isotope ratio for them all was measured and the contribution to contamination from several sources like fertilizer, sewage, cropland. and landfill was analysed. Nitrogen source for 11 sampling sites of T-3, L-1. O-1∼O-4, F-2∼F-5, and G-2 considered to come from chemical fertilizer and its contribution was around 60% or more. T-4. T-5 were located downward the downtown, which were influenced bydomestic sewage and its contribution were 70.7% and 54.7%. Nitrate concentration of G-2 was 17.7 mg/L, among which 60.7% was estimated to come from landfill leachate. T-1 and T-2 were located in the small village, in which 42.2 and 43.4% of nitrogen was to come from domestic sewage but 52.8% and 56.0% were from fertilizer sprayed in the cropland. L-2 was near livestock by which it was estimated to be influenced, in which 59.9% of nitrogen was from cropland. F-1 was in the cropland, by which 50.0% was influenced and 49.5% was estimated from organic matter of animals.

Optimum Harvest Stage of Italian Ryegrass 'Kowinearly' According to One and Two Harvests During Spring Season (이탈리안 라이그라스 '코윈어리'의 봄철 1회 및 2회 이용에 따른 수확적기 구명)

  • This study was carried out to determine the optimum harvest stage of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam., IRG) for maximum forage production during the spring season in Suwon, 2010. The variety of IRG was the early maturity type, 'Kowinearly', and six harvest stages (treatments) were first heading (T1), heading (T2), late heading to early bloom (T3), bloom to late bloom (T4), ripeness (T5), and late ripeness stage (T6). The dates of the first heading and heading of 'Kowinearly' were seen on 4 to 5 May, and 14 May, respectively. Plant length and dry matter (DM) percentage at first harvest were from 69 cm and 14.8% at T1 stage to 103 cm and 35.0% at T6 stage, respectively. The content of crude protein (CP) and in vitro DM digestibility (IVDMD) of T1, T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6 at first harvest were 15.6%, 10.6%, 10.1%, 8.1%, 7.3% and 5.4%, and 81.8%, 72.1%, 64.8%, 63.8%, 61.4% and 59.0%, respectively. The content of neural detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) were increased continuously with delayed harvest. A significantly higher yield of DM, CP and in vitro digestible DM (IVDDM) were observed for T3, and T4 (p<0.05). DM yield of 3,526 kg, 6,278 kg, 7,842 kg, 8,984 kg, 8,346 kg and 8,008 kg/ha, CP yield of 549 kg, 665 kg, 795 kg, 725 kg, 608 kg and 430 kg/ha, and IVDDM of 2,883 kg. 4,526 kg, 5,083 kg, 5,728 kg, 5,124 kg and 4,722 kg/ha at first harvest were recorded in T1, T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6, respectively. Regrowth yield of DM, CP and IVDDM were shown to be higher at T1 and T2 (p<0.05). However, no significant differences were observed between the two stages. Daily DM and DDM production of regrowth IRG were higher at T2, followed by T1. The total yield (at first and at regrowth) of DM, CP and IVDDM were significant higher for T2, followed by T3, T4 and T1 in order. At T2 stage, the yield was 11,089 kg, 1,254 kg, and 7,669 kg/ha in DM, CP, and IVDDM. In conclusion, the late heading to bloom stage was determined to be the optimum harvest stage for a single harvest, while the heading stage was a suitable stage of first harvest of 'Kowinearly' where two harvests were sought in a single year.

Marine Terrace of Daebo-Guryongpo-Gampo, SE Korea(II) (대보-구룡포-감포 지역의 해안단구(II))

  • The 36km-long Daebo-Campo coast has a well-developed marine terraces divided to six steps by elevation of paleoshoreline : 0.5 m(T1), 10 m(T2), 30 m(T3), 40 m(T4), 60 m(T5) and 75 m(T6). The 2$^{nd}$ and 3$^{nd}$ platforms in Daebo to Guryongpo are wider and more distinctive than those of Guryongpo to Gampo. The 3$^{nd}$ terrace of 30 m high is subdivided to two flights as lower(T3b) and upper(T3a) by old sea cliff. Platform age is unclear because of coral fossil free. However, the terrace age could be determined with convergent OSL ages from beach sediments on 2$^{nd}$ step(T2). OSL ages of the terrace of 10 m high range in 60-70 ka. It reveals that the 2$^{nd}$ -step platform correlates to Oxygen Isotope Time scale, substage 5a(ca. 80 ka), and that uplift rate is ca. 0.19 m/ka for 2$^{nd}$ terrace at Daebo-Campo coast. If considering equivalent uplift rate for all terraces since the Late Pleistocene, the 3$^{rd}$ and 4$^{th}$ terraces would be 5e substage and 7 stage. The 30 m-high terrace provides a good indicator for uplift at Daebo-Gampo coast since 125,000 yrs(MIS 5e). It suggests that the local neotectonic deformation might cause an optional uplift rate of ca. 0.19 m/ka along the SE coast of Korea.

The Influence of Feeding Dietary Differences on Growth Performance and Carcass Quality in Finishing Pigs (사료조성 차이가 돼지 생산 및 도체형질에 미치는 영향)

  • All diets were based on feeds of fattening period pigs(LY x D, ca. 90 kg) with six treatments, which were the control, containing 5% beef tallow(C), 3% beef tallows and 2% perilla seeds oil(T1), 250 ppm vit. E(${\alpha}$-tocopheryl acetate) in T1(T2), 3% beef tallow and 2% squid viscera oil(T3), 250 ppm vit. E in T3(T4), and 3% beef tallow and 2% CLA(T5), respectively. Produced porks and their carcass characteristics were as follows. The daily gain of pigs was higher in T2 and 73 than any other treatments(p<0.05). Its T2 and T3 was 3.71 and 3.80 respectively, however, there was no significance in feed intake. The highest back fat thickness was shown in control group on market weight, while there was no significant difference on their initial weight. Loin-eye muscle area did not show any significant difference on initial weight and on market weight, however, its T5 was about twice as large as T2's. Content of triglyceride in blood was high in control group as compared to others; especially, the values for T3, T4 and T5 were significantly low(p <0.05). There was no significant difference in total cholesterol contents, and the ratio of HDL cholesterol/total cholesterol was higher in vit. E treated samples than untreated sample. Atherogenic index was high in sample with T3 and low in sample with T2. The perilla seed oil, squid fish oil, and vit. E decreased atherogenic index. Dressing percentage, back fat thickness, and grade did not show any significant difference(p >0.05); however, T2, C and T3, T1 and T5 showed 4.67, 4.29, 4.00 respectively, in grades.
