Explosives are reactive material that contain a great amount of high potential energy. They produce detonation if released suddenly, accompanied by the production of strong light, high heat, great noise and high pressure. Damage at surrounding detonation point is affected by high pressure and blast wave for explosives detonation. Consequently, analysis of pressure and blast wave is very important. This study focuses on the analysis of maximum overpressure and blast wave of explosives for safety assurance. First of all, four cases of the amount of HMX were selected. Secondly, maximum pressure and blast wave were calculated through detonation simulation along with a set of TNT and HMX quantities. The peripheral effect of detonation point was analyzed by calculating overpressure and absolute velocity and considering detonation occurred in the center of geometry by HMX. Also, maximum overpressure and blast wave of HMX were compared to equivalent amount of TNT, which was taken as a base case and verified through theoretical HMX graph. This study contributes to the base case for overpressure and blast wave of complex gunpowder containing HMX.

Permissible soil concentrations for explosives (i.e., TNT and RDX) and heavy metals (i.e., Cu, Zn, Pb, and As) heve been derived from human risk and ecotoxicity, respectively. For TNT and RDX, human risk based-permissible soil concentrations were determined as 460 mg-TNT/kg-soil and 260 mg-RDX/kg-soil. Ecotoxicity based-permissible soil concentrations for Cu and Zn were determined from species sensitivity distribution (SSD) and uncertainty factor of 1 to 5, yielding 18.0-40.0 mg-Cu/kg-soil and 46.0-100 mg-Zn/kg-soil. For Pb and As, ecotoxicity data were not enough to establish SSD so that a deterministic method was used, generating 13.8-30.8 mg-Pb/kg-soil and 2.10-4.60 mg-As/kg-soil. It is worth noting that the methodology used to derive permissible concentrations in soil can differ depending on ecotoxicity data availability and socio-economic situations, which results in different permissible concentrations. The permissible concentrations presented in this study have been derived from conservative assumptions for exposure parameters, and thus should be considered as soil standards. In the light of remediation and pollution management of a site of interest, the site-specific and receptor-specific permissible soil concentrations should be derived considering potential receptors, current and future land use, background concentrations, and socio-economic consultation.
Stenotrophomonas sp. OK-5 capable of degrading TNT has been found to have three nitroreductase fractions designated as NTR fractions I, II, and III. NTR in a previous study. This study was attempted to reveal physiological and molecular characteristics of NTR fractions I, II, and III in strain OK-5. Several chemicals (e.g., EDTA, NaCl, dithiothreitol, $\beta$-mercaptoethanol) were tested for their effect on enzyme activity of NTRs, demonstrating that enzyme activities of NTR fractions I, II, and III from OK-5 were inhibited in the presence of $\beta$-mercaptoethanol. Substrate specificity test showed that NTR fractions I, II, and III all have over 70% enzyme activities for nitrobenzene or RDX as a substrate. N-terminal amino acid sequence of NTR fraction I from Stenotrophomonas sp. OK-5 was $^1MSDLLNADAVVQLFRTARDS^20$ and exhibited 70% sequence homology with that of NTR from Xanthomonas campestris. NTR I gene from Stenotrophomonas sp. OK-5 (SmOK5nrI) shared extensive sequence homology in deduced amino acid sequence of PCR product with NTRs from Xanthomonas campestris (81 %), X. axonopodis (75%), Streptomyces avermitilis(30%), whereas they had low homology with that from P. putida KT2440 (pnrB) (16%).
The numerical investigations have been carried out on reinforced concrete slab against blast loading to demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the finite element based numerical models using commercial package ABAQUS. The response of reinforced concrete slab have been studied against the influence of weight of TNT, standoff distance, boundary conditions, influence of air blast and surface blast. The results thus obtained from simulations were compared with the experiments available in literature. The inelastic behavior of concrete and steel reinforcement bar has been incorporated through concrete damage plasticity model and Johnson-cook models available in ABAQUS were presented. The predicted results through numerical simulations of the present study were found in close agreement with the experimental results. The damage mechanism and stress response of target were assessed based on the intensity of deformations, impulse velocity, von-Mises stresses and damage index in concrete. The results indicate that the standoff distance has great influence on the survivability of RC slab against blast loading. It is concluded that the velocity of impulse wave was found to be decreased from 17 to 11 m/s when the mass of TNT is reduced from 12 to 6 kg. It is observed that the maximum stress in the concrete was found to be in the range of 15 to $20N/mm^2$ and is almost constant for given charge weight. The slab with two short edge discontinuous end condition was found better and it may be utilised in designing important structures. Also it is observed that the deflection in slab by air blast was found decreased by 60% as compared to surface blast.
The combined impact of Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) fouling and inorganic ($CaSO_4,Ca_3(PO_4)_2$) scaling on the retention of TNT (2, 4, 6-Trinitrotoluene), RDX (Hexahydro-1, 3, 5-trinitro-1, 3, 5-triazine) and HMX (1, 3, 5, 7-Tetranitro-1, 3, 5, 7-tetrazocane) explosive contaminants by nano-filtration membrane were studied, since organic fouling and salt scaling are the major limitations for membrane filtration. Results reported here indicate that DOM fouling layer with a humic acid does not necessarily lead to an immediate loss of permeate flux but can result in a severe impact on the flux loss when both humic acid and inorganic scaltants were presented simultaneously. The $Ca_3(PO_4)_2$ mixed with humic acid showd most sever flux loss (42%) compared to that of only humic acid presence (8%). It could be a result that the scaling formation of the NF membrane was dominated by cake layer formation of DOM and it was along with pore blocking by the formation of crystals inside the porous active matrix of the NF membrane. In addition, these results indicated that the membrane selectivity of the explosives retention trended correlated with respect to increasing explosives size (listed by MW) based on greater steric interactions and followed the order (MW, g $mol^{-1}$; removal, %): HMX (296.15; 83%) ${\gg}$ RDX (222.12; 49%) ≋ TNT (227.13; 32%). Because the scaling and fouling layer could lead to a additional cake-enhanced concentration polarisation effect, the retention of explosives with the presence of humic acid in the feed solution and inorganic scaling formation on top of an organic fouling layer do not differ substantially retention from that of pure DI feed and NaCl solution.
The molecular structures of 2,6-diaza-1,3,5,7-tetraoxaspiro[3,3]heptane (1) and its dinitro derivative, 2,6-dinitro-2,6-diaza-1,3,5,7-tetraoxaspiro[3,3]heptane (2), were fully optimized without symmetry constraints at $HF/6-31G^*$ level of theory. A bisected conformation with respect to the ring is preferred with a $C_2$ symmetric structure. The density of each molecule in the crystalline state was estimated to 1.12 and 2.36 $g/cm^3$ using PM3/VSTO-3G calculations from the molecular volume. The heat of formation was calculated for two compounds at the CBS-4M level of theory. The detonation parameters were computed using the EXPLO5 software: D = 6282 m/s, $P_{C-J}$ = 127 kbar for compound 1, D = 7871 m/s, $P_{C-J}$ = 307 kbar for compound 2, and D = 6975 m/s, $P_{C-J}$ = 170 kbar for 60% compound 2 with 40% TNT. Specific impulse of compound 1 in aluminized formulation when used as monopropellants was very similar to that of the conventional ammonium perchlorate in the same formulation of aluminum.
Synthesis and characterization of alkyl-capped nanocrystalline silicon (R-n-Si) have been achieved from the reaction of silicontetrachloride with magnesiumsilicide. Surface of silicon nanocrystal has been derivatized with various alkyl groups (R=methyl, n-butyl, etc.). Silicon nanoparticles have been also obtained by the sonication of luminescent porous silicon. Former exhibits an emission band at 360 nm, but latter exhibits an emission band at 680 nm. In this study very sensitive detection of TNT (2,4,6-trinitrotoluene), DNT (2,4-dinitrotoluene), NB (nitrobenzene), and PA (picric acid) has been achieved in gas phase with porous silicon using photoluminescence quenching of the silicon crystallites as a transduction mode. Porous silicon are electrochemically etched from crystalline silicon wafers in an aqueous solution of hydrofluoric acid. We have characterized these silicon nanoparticles by Luminescence Spectrometer (LS 55).
This work aims to study the evolution of galaxies, located in the dense environment of the NGC 4095 compact group, which have recession velocities 6,000 < v ($km\;s^{-1}$) < 8,000. Imaging observations for BV $R_c$ broad-band, and [$S\small{II}$] and red-continuum narrow-band were carried out with the 2.4 m Thai National Telescope (TNT) at Doi Inthanon, Chiang Mai, Thailand. The sample contains 13 galaxies, consisting of 8 spirals, 4 ellipticals and 1 irregular morphological type. Late type galaxies tend to be bluer than early type galaxies. The results show that most of the late type galaxies have ongoing star formation activity, which could be triggered by galaxy-galaxy or tidal interactions, and that young massive stars in these galaxies cause their colors to be bluer than the early type galaxies.

Single-chain variable fragments of antibodies (scFv) specific to 2,4-dinitrotoluene (DNT) were isolated from a phage library displaying synthetic human scFv fragments with 6 diversified complementary determining regions (CDRs). A DNT derivative that contained an extended amine group was synthesized and conjugated to the NHS-group that was linked to magnetic beads. Phages specific to the immobilized DNT derivatives were isolated from the library after 4 rounds of sequential binding and elution processes. The displayed scFv fragments from the isolated phages showed consensus CDR sequences. One DNT-specific scFv was expressed in E. coli and purified using Ni-affinity chromatography. The purified DNT-specific scFv binds specifically to the immobilized DNT-derivative with $K_D$ value of $6.0{\times}10^{-7}$ M. The scFv and DNT interaction was not disrupted by the addition of 4-nitrotoluene or benzoic acid. These data demonstrate that the screened scFv from the phage displayed library could be used for selective and sensitive detection of explosives such as TNT.
