Single image rain removal is a typical inverse problem which decomposes the image into a background scene and a rain streak. Recent works have witnessed a substantial progress on the task due to the development of convolutional neural network (CNN). However, existing CNN-based approaches train the network with synthetically generated training examples. These data tend to make the network bias to the synthetic scenes. In this paper, we present an unsupervised framework for removing rain streaks from real-world rainy images. We focus on the natural phenomena that static rainy scenes capture a common background but different rain streak. From this observation, we train siamese network with the real rain image pairs, which outputs identical backgrounds from the pairs. To train our network, a real rainy dataset is constructed via web-crawling. We show that our unsupervised framework outperforms the recent CNN-based approaches, which are trained by supervised manner. Experimental results demonstrate that the effectiveness of our framework on both synthetic and real-world datasets, showing improved performance over previous approaches.
In this paper, combining features is proposed as a way to enhance the classification accuracy of sounds under noisy environments using the CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) structure. A robust log Mel-filter bank using Wiener filter and PNCCs (Power Normalized Cepstral Coefficients) are extracted to form a 2-dimensional feature that is used as input to the CNN structure. An ebird database is used to classify 43 types of bird species in their natural environment. To evaluate the performance of the combined features under noisy environments, the database is augmented with 3 types of noise under 4 different SNRs (Signal to Noise Ratios) (20 dB, 10 dB, 5 dB, 0 dB). The combined feature is compared to the log Mel-filter bank with and without incorporating the Wiener filter and the PNCCs. The combined feature is shown to outperform the other mentioned features under clean environments with a 1.34 % increase in overall average accuracy. Additionally, the accuracy under noisy environments at the 4 SNR levels is increased by 1.06 % and 0.65 % for shop and schoolyard noise backgrounds, respectively.

Recently, many researches have been conducted to estimate blood pressure using ECG(Electrocardiogram) and PPG(Photoplentysmography) signals. In this paper, we designed and implemented a mobile system to monitor blood pressure in real time by using 1-D convolutional neural networks. The proposed model consists of deep 11 layers which can learn to extract various features of ECG and PPG signals. The simulation results show that the more the number of convolutional kernels the learned neural network has, the more detailed characteristics of ECG and PPG signals resulted in better performance with reduced mean square error compared to linear regression model. With receiving measurement signals from wearable ECG and PPG sensor devices attached to the body, the developed system receives measurement data transmitted through Bluetooth communication from the devices, estimates systolic and diastolic blood pressure values using a learned model and displays its graph in real time.
The serial arc is one of factors causing electrical fires. Over past decades, various researches have been carried out to detect arc occurrences. Even though frequency analysis, wavelet, and statistical features have been used, additional steps such as transformation and feature extraction are required. On the contrary, deep learning models directly use the raw data without any feature extraction processes. Therefore, the usage of time-domain data is preferred, but the performance is not satisfactory. To solve this problem, subsequent 1-D signals are transformed into 2-D data that can feed into a convolutional neural network (CNN). Experiments validated that CNN model outperforms deep neural network (DNN) by the classification accuracy of 8.6%. In addition, data augmentation is utilized, resulting in the accuracy improvement by 14%.

Neural Networks are widely used for huge variety of tasks solution. Machine Learning methods are used also for signal and time series analysis, including electrocardiograms. Contemporary wearable devices, both medical and non-medical type like smart watch, allow to gather the data in real time uninterruptedly. This allows us to transfer these data for analysis or make an analysis on the device, and thus provide preliminary diagnosis, or at least fix some serious deviations. Different methods are being used for this kind of analysis, ranging from medical-oriented using distinctive features of the signal to machine learning and deep learning approaches. Here we will demonstrate a neural network-based approach to this task by building an ensemble of 1D CNN classifiers and a final classifier of selection using logistic regression, random forest or support vector machine, and make the conclusions of the comparison with other approaches.

In super-resolution, various methods with Convolutional Neural Network(CNN) have recently been proposed. CNN based methods provide much higher image quality than conventional methods. Especially, VDSR outperforms other CNN based methods in terms of image quality. However, it requires a high computational complexity which prevents real-time processing. In this paper, the method to apply a deconvolution layer to VDSR is proposed to reduce computational complexity. Compared to original VDSR, the proposed method achieves the 4.46 times speed-up and its degradation in image quality is less than -0.1 dB which is negligible.

With the development of computer music notation programs, when drawing sheet music, it is often drawn using a computer. However, there are still many use of hand-written notations for educational purposes or to quickly draw sheet music such as listening and dictating. In previous studies, OMR focused on recognizing the printed music sheet made by music notation program. the result of handwritten OMR with camera is poor because different people have different writing methods, and lens distortion. In this study, as a pre-processing process for recognizing handwritten music sheet, we propose a method for recognizing a staff using linear regression and a method for recognizing a bar using CNN. F1 scores of staff recognition and barline detection are 99.09% and 95.48%, respectively. This methodologies are expected to contribute to improving the accuracy of handwriting.

Accurate 3D object tracking with camera images is a key enabling technology for augmented reality applications. Motivated by the impressive success of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in computer vision tasks such as image classification, object detection, image segmentation, recent studies for 3D object tracking have focused on leveraging deep learning. In this paper, we review deep learning approaches for 3D object tracking. We describe key methods in this field and discuss potential future research directions.

Cryptanalysis can be performed by various techniques such as known plaintext attack, differential attack, side-channel analysis, and the like. Recently, many studies have been conducted on cryptanalysis using deep learning. A known-plaintext attack is a technique that uses a known plaintext and ciphertext pair to find a key. In this paper, we use deep learning technology to perform a known-plaintext attack against S-PRESENT, a reduced version of the lightweight block cipher PRESENT. This paper is significant in that it is the first known-plaintext attack based on deep learning performed on a reduced lightweight block cipher. For cryptanalysis, MLP (Multi-Layer Perceptron) and 1D and 2D CNN(Convolutional Neural Network) models are used and optimized, and the performance of the three models is compared. It showed the highest performance in 2D convolutional neural networks, but it was possible to attack only up to some key spaces. From this, it can be seen that the known-plaintext attack through the MLP model and the convolutional neural network is limited in attackable key bits.
Forecasting volatility is essential to avoiding the risk caused by the uncertainties of an financial asset. Complicated financial volatility features such as ambiguity between non-stationarity and stationarity, asymmetry, long-memory, sudden fairly large values like outliers bring great challenges to volatility forecasts. In order to address such complicated features implicity, we consider machine leaning models such as LSTM (1997) and GRU (2014), which are known to be suitable for existing time series forecasting. However, there are the problems of vanishing gradients, of enormous amount of computation, and of a huge memory. To solve these problems, a causal temporal convolutional network (TCN) model, an advanced form of 1D CNN, is also applied. It is confirmed that the overall forecasting power of TCN model is higher than that of the RNN models in forecasting VIX, VXD, and VXN, the daily volatility indices of S&P 500, DJIA, Nasdaq, respectively.
