Effect of the Cooling Rates on the Corrosion Resistance and Phase Transformation of 14Cr-3Mo Martensitic Stainless Steel

  • Martensitic stainless steel is used when mechanical properties such as high tensile strength and hardness are required. Medium carbon-contained martensitic stainless steel which contains more than 0.2 wt% of carbon should be heat-treated and quenched at the temperature where undissolved carbides are totally dissolved into the matrix. In particular, the dissolution and reprecipitation behaviors of various forms of carbides are affected by such parameters as heating rate, heating temperature, duration time and cooling rate. This study is to investigate the effects of heat treatment parameters of 14Cr-3Mo martensitic stainless on corrosion resistance and phase transformation in relation to the dissolution and reprecipitation of carbides.

  • 소형 시험편 기술은 최소량의 재료를 사용하여 그 재료의 물리적인 거동을 특성화할 수 있기 때문에 산업설비로부터 많은 재료를 수집할 수 없는 경우에 유용한 방법이다. 본 연구에서 사용한 재료는 화력발전소 터빈로터 소재로 많이 사용되고 있는 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V강이었으며, $^630{\circ}C$에서 등온열화처리하여 5종류의 가속 열화 모사재를 만들었다. 충격시험에는 표준 시험편과 소형 시험편이 사용되었으며, 일부 소형 시험편에 소성 구속을 증가시키기 위해 측면흠을 만들어 넣었다. 표준 시험편과 소형 시험편의 충격특성을 비교하였으며 크기효과를 고찰하였고, 소형 시험편의 연성취성천이온도와 표준 시험편의 연성취성천이온도와의 상관관계를 만들었다. 따라서 소형 시험편의 충격시험결과로부터 표준 시험편의 충격특성을 추정하는 것이 가능하게 되었다.

Uniaxial fatigue, creep and stress-strain responses of steel 30CrNiMo8

  • The choice of individual material for industrial application is primarily based on knowledge of its behavior in similar applications and similar environmental conditions. Contemporary design implies knowledge of material behavior and knowledge in the area of structural analysis supported by large capacity computers. Bearing this in mind, this paper presents and analyzes the experimental results related to the mechanical properties of the material considered (30CrNiMo8/1.6580/AISI 4340) at different temperatures as well as its creep and fatigue behavior. All experimental tests were carried out as uniaxial tests. The test results related to the mechanical properties are presented in the form of engineering stress-strain diagrams. The results related to the creep behavior of the material are shown in the form of creep curves, while the fatigue of the material is shown in the form of stress - life (S - N) diagram. Based on these experimental results, the values of the following properties are determined: ultimate tensile strength (${\sigma}_{m,20}=696MPa$), yield strength (${\sigma}_{0.2,20}=355.5MPa$), modulus of elasticity ($E_{,20}=217GPa$) and fatigue limit (${\sigma}_{f,20,R=-1}=280.4MPa$). Results related to fatigue tests were obtained at room temperature and stress ratio R = -1.

Effect of Si Content on the Microstructure of Cast M42 Tool Steel

  • 공구강은 C, Cr, V, Mo, W, Co 및 Si 과 같은 첨가원소를 함유한 복잡한 철계 합금으로 주요 특성인 경도, 부식저항성, 열 연화저항성 그리고 인성의 요구수준에 따라 화학성분이 결정된다. 본 연구에서는 1.0C, 0.2Mn, 3.8Cr, 1.5W, 8.5Co, 9.2Mo, 1.0V 조성의 M42 공구강의 미세조직과 열간가공성에 미치는 Si 함량의 효과를 체계적으로 조사하였다. 진공유도용해를 이용하여 Si 함량을 중량비로 0.33 에서 1.7% 까지 변화시켜 $140{\times}140{\times}330\;mm^{3}$ 크기의 잉곳으로 제조하였다. 이렇게 제조한 잉곳들은 $1150^{\circ}C$에서 1.5시간 동안 용체화처리한 후 노냉하였고, 이어 $1180^{\circ}C$에서 15mm 두께의 판재로 열간압연하였다. 공정 탄화물의 형상 및 분해 거동을 중심으로 미세조직을 관찰한 결과 Si 함량이 증가함에 따라 분해속도가 느려지는 것을 알 수 있었고 이로 인해 열간성형성이 급격히 저하되는 것으로 나타났다.

  • The crack length measurements by electrical potential(EP) method for 1% Cr-Mo-V and 12%Cr steel of 0.5T-CT specimen were performed at $500^{\circ}C, 600^{\circ}C 700^{\circ}C$, and an applicability of stress intensity factor($K_I$), net section stress($\sigma_{net}$), $C^*$-ingegral and $C_t$ parameter was studied to measure creep crack growth rate(da/dt) with side groove and without side groove under static and cyclic loading condition. The experimental result could be summarized as follows: 1) Crack measurement by EP method was available and coincided with the Johnson,s analytical equation. 2) da/dt by $K_I$ and $\sigma_{net}$ was not adequate because of the wide scatter band according to load and temperature, but $C^*$-integral, except for transition region, was adequate. 3) $C_t$ parameter showed the best fitted line through total creep region without relating with both temperature and load condition. 4) Under the cyclic loading condition, $C_t$ parameter was proper to extimate da/dt. And it was shown that da/dt for 1% Cr-Mo V steel under the static condition(R=1) was 1.16 times faster than the case under cyclic loading(R=0), and for 12% Cr steel, 1.43 times.

용접재료별 단강 피스톤 크라운 용접부위의 부식특성에 대한 평가 (Evaluation of the corrosion property on the welded zone of forged steel piston crown with types of filler metals)

  • 최근 수년 동안 유가의 현저한 상승으로 인하여 상선의 디젤 기관은 저질 중유를 주로 사용하게 되었다. 따라서 저질 중유의 사용 증가에 따른 디젤 기관의 연소실 배기가스 온도는 점차 상승하여 가혹한 부식 환경에 직면하게 되었다. 그 결과 연소실 주변의 모든 기관 부품들의 부식과 마모는 다른 기관 부품들에 비해서 심각하다. 그러므로 이들 부품들의 적절한 덧살 용접은 수명 연장을 위하여 경제적인 측면에서 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 피스톤 크라운 재질로 통상 사용되는 단강에 4종류의 용접재료로 SMAW와 GTAW로 용접하였다. 실험은 모재, 열영향부 및 용접금속의 부식 특성을 35% 황산용액에서 부식전위, 양극분극 곡선, 사이클릭볼타모그램 및 임피던스 등의 전기화학적인 방법으로 하여 고찰하였다. Inconel 625, 718 용접재료의 경우 용접금속의 내식성이 가장 우수하였고, 모재의 내식성이 가장 좋지 않았으며, 반면에 1.25Cr-0.5Mo와 0.5Mo는 모재가 용접금속에 비해서 더 좋은 내식성을 나타내었다. 또한, 용접금속 중 Inconel 625가 가장 내식성이 우수하였으며, 그 다음으로 Inconel 718 용접재료로 나타났다. 경도 역시 용접금속이 상대적으로 모재, 열영향부에 비해서 높은 값을 나타내었다. 특히 Inconel 718 용접재료의 경우 다른 용접재료에 비하여 가장 높은 경도값을 나타내었다.

Cr-Mo강의 수소확산 특성에 관한 유한요소해석 (The Finite Element Analysis on the Characteristics of the Hydrogen Diffusion for the Cr-Mo Steels)

  • The size of hydrogen molecule is not so small as to invade into the lattice of material, and therefore, hydrogen invades into the material as atom. Hydrogen movement is done by diffusion or dislocation movement in the near crack tip or plastic deformation. Hydrogen appeared to have many effects on the mechanical properties of the Cr-Mo steel alloys. The materials for this study are 1.25Cr-0.5Mo and 2.25Cr-1Mo steels used at high temperature and pressure. The hydrogen amount obtained by theoretical calculation was almost same with the result solved by finite element analysis. The distribution of hydrogen concentration and average concentration was calculated for a flat specimen. Also, finite element analysis was employed to simulate the redistribution of hydrogen due to stress gradient. The calculation of hydrogen concentration diffused into the material by finite element method will provide the basis for the prediction of delayed fracture of notched specimen. The distribution of hydrogen concentration invaded into the smooth and notched specimen was obtained by finite element analysis. The hydrogen amount is much in smooth specimen and tends to concentrate in the vicinity of surface. Hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of notched specimen after hydrogen charging is more remarkable than that of smooth specimen.

시효 열화시킨 터빈 로터강의 피로강도에 관한 연구 (Fatigue Strength in Aged Turbine Rotor Steel)

  • The estimation of the remaining life for the aged components in power plant as well as chemical and peroleum plants has been recently coberned. The raw materials used in this syudy are the 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V rotor steel which intensified P and S compositions along with the nominal compositions of ASTM A470 standard. Five kinds of specimens with the different degradation levels were prepared by isothermal aging teat treatment at $630^{\circ}C$ The mechanical properties and fatigue strength of virgin and aged 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V rotor steel have been inbestigated through the hardness, tensile, fatigue test, SEM fractograph and EDS analysis at room temperature. Thus, the data of aged specimens were compared with those of virgin specimen to evaluate the aging effects. The main results obtained in this study are as follows; The decrease of the hardness due to degradation was distinguished until 50, 000hrs simulated service time. And is was confirmed that the considerable amount of P, Mn, Cr and S was precipitated at the grain boundary of aged material through the SEM and EDS analysis. The fatigue strength of 25, 000, 50, 000, 75, 000 and 100, 000hrs aged material was decreased 29.5%, 24.4%, 28.6%, 35.7% than that of virgin material at $10^7$ cycles of room temperature. The major cracks of virgin and aged materials initiated at the inclusions including Si, P and Mn compositions which were located at the outer periphery of the specimen.

  • In this study, actual scale welding were conducted at the USC thermal power plant turbine and main steam pipe casting candidate mock up material 9Cr-1.5Mo-CoVNbNB steel(CB2) and 9Cr-0.5Mo-MVNbN steel(P92). And to evaluate the welding process for the actual production, mechanical property testes were conducted for the weld metal. The Mock-up welding condition successfully led to an excellent structural welding joint between casting and pipe material.
