Ganggyeong, a city which is located at riverside of Geum River, played a role to connect the inland cities and the coastal cities through the Geum river waterway. In Chosun dynasty, Ganggyeong was one of the three major markets in Korea, and at the same time, it was one of the two river docks in Korea. However, after the railway was installed in Korea, railroad was more important than waterway in transporting logistics and in 1911 Honam railroad and Ganggyeong railway station was installed. Thus it was necessary to reorganize urban structure of Ganggyeong city from the traditional river-dock city to modern railroad city. In addition, urban infrastructure to prevent flood damage was needed because Ganggyeong suffered from floods and water shortages every year. Therefore, between 1910s and 1930s large-scale social infrastructures including road, water and sewage system, river bank, floodgate was constructed not only to revitalize the declining city but also to prevent flood damage and water shortages that hinder urban development. The installation of urban infrastructure has enabled the urban expansion and development of Ganggyeong city, and it is still served as a basic urban structure.

The goal of this research is to analyze interrelationship for layout of dwelling house and variation of its side plane by introducing concept of space in order to address as to how Korean traditional houses had been formed and varied in the middle of advancing modern city. In addition, this paper also has its meaning in a way that it identified how Korean traditional houses have been changed, and thus make residents more comfortable to live there by reviving their past characteristics, and make users have traditional food culture. Targeted area for this paper is limited to south-eastern area of Daegu such as Namsanjung, Myeongchijung, Sijangjung, Shinjung and Dalsungjng which was group dwelling houses of people of Chosun Dynasty during Japanese colonial rule' era ($1910{\sim}1945$). Among those places, the paper has chosen a place where Korea traditional houses were well preserved, variation of road and fields was less 1930s, and residential type is easy to effectively compared. As the result of this research, time when traditional cities were changed into new type of city residential area is believed to be around 1930s, and traditional residential area, through its transitional process, is believed to be changed to modern residential area. It also indicates that change of organizational road and fields directly had influence on change of houses.
This is a review of Juchon (舟村) Sinman's (申曼) book "Juchonsinbang (舟村新方)", describing generations of clinical experience in pediatric practice. Written during King Sukjong era in the middle of the Joseon Dynasty, JuchonSinman used symptoms and general disease terminology, including prescription and treatments employed over generations, so the public could easily utilize the information. "Juchonsinbang (舟村新方)" "pediatric (小兒編)" is characterized by a symptom differentiation method of prescribing herbs which allowed the reader to add or subtract various substances according to symptoms based on Tongchibang (通治方). "Juchonsinbang" includes unique prescriptions and new ways to distinguish acute infantile convulsion (急驚風) according to the cause of fright. Although these prescriptions were not completely new, they present an aspect of an empirical book including JuchonSinman's clinical experience based on existing medical theories. "Juchonsinbang" has a medico-historical value in that it was cited in many medical books such a "Danbangsinpyun (單方新編)", "Sujinggyunghumsinbang (袖珍經驗神方)", and "Hanbang medical pediatric book (漢方醫學小兒全科)" in 1910-30.

The politico-economic waives of Western imperialism and colonialism, along with Christianity, affected East Asia's geopolitical landscape in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. While the Korean people (of the Joseon Dynasty) witnessed the incompetence of Buddhism, Confucianism, and folk religions in maintaining social cohesion with a sense of frustration, the new religious movements (NRMs) emerged to provide altrnative teachings of hope through historical figures like Choe Je-u, Kang Il-sun (or Kang Jeungsan), Na Cheol, and Pak Chungbin. In terms of popularity, colonial Korea (1910-1940) was impressed by the native groups of Cheondogyo (=Donghak), Bocheongyo, and Mugeukdo. Son Byong-hee (1861-1922) was the third leader of the first Korean NRM, but both Cha Gyeong-seok (1880-1936) and Jo Cheol-Je (= Jo Jeongsan) (1895-1958) participated in the post-Jeungsan grassroots movements. How, then, did both of these new religions originate? How did they conceptualise their deities and interpret their teachings differently? What was their policy for national independence? The article explores the socio-religious leaders, historical origin, organizational structure, deities, teaching and doctrines, patriotism, and conflicts of both NRMs in a comparative context. As such, this article argues that they both maintained patriotic characteristics, but that Cha's Bocheongyo community with its ' 60-executives' system (60 bang) failed to manage their internal conflicts effectively. Meanwhile, Jo Cheol-Je of Mugeukdo had the charismatic leadership needed to maintain Mugeukdo, despite being seen as a pseudoreligion under the colonial pressure of Shintoism.

Background and Purpose : ${\ulcorner}Dong\;Eui\;Sa\;Sang\;Sin\;Pyun{\lrcorner}$is the one of widely used medical books in the Sasang Constitucional Medicine Academy, but there was not enough study of the author. Through the research of the ${\ulcorner}Won\;Ji-Sang{\lrcorner}$, the Author, We highly intent to utilize the book ${\ulcorner}Dong\;Eui\;Sa\;Sang\;Sin\;Pyun{\lrcorner}$. 2. Methods : We arranged Won Ji-Sang's life style with investigation of the Won Yong-Sa(Won Ji-Sang's daughter), Survivors's verbal evidence and related books. 3. Results and Conclusion : 1) Won Ji-Sang's Childhood Name was "Ill Sang", Pseudonym was "Duck Pil", Pen Name was "Sung Am". He was born in "Bong Yang Myune, Je Chon Gune, Chung Buk" at 1885's June 1st of the lunar calendar and moved to "Yeo Ju Gune, Kyung Gi Do" at 1910's, and passed away in "Nae Sa Ree, Whung Chun Myune, Yeo Ju Gune, Kyung Gi Do" at 1962's June 2'nd of the lunar calender, when he was 78s. 2) The outline of philosophy of Won Ji-Sang's was based of "Wha Seo Doctrinal Faction's ideology", which was connected with Kim Pyong-Muk, Yu Jung-Kyo, Lee Gun-Won, Rue Rin-Suk. 3) ${\ulcorner}Dong\;Eui\;Sa\;Sang\;Sin\;Pyun{\lrcorner}$ was published in 1929's when Won Ji-Sang was 45s. However, we couldn't find out how Won Ji-Sang got to know Sasang Constitutional Medicine, and whether or not he had relation with Dong Mu Lee Je-Ma. 4) Won Ji-Sang's medical experience might be started before he was 45, and real medical treatment began when he was 66.
This thesis has three main purposes: first, will show kinds, patterns, types, expression techniques of modern korean women's trimmings by every ten years. Second, it is to trace the effect of each decade on women's Hanbok trimming designs. Third, it will point out factors. that caused the change of modern Korean women's Hanbok trimming design patterns. Henceforth, there comes the result of the research and analysis. Trimming design patterns of modern women's Hanbok can be divided into three categories temporally: The first period of from 1910s to the first half of 1950s saw that design patterns did not changed much from traditional ones. It is because there were many catastrophes such as the invasion of Japanese Empire and Korean War. The compound design had expressed people's wish to earn many sons and babies at the end of Joseon Dynasty. But it turned to wishing luck for individuals affected by individualism and liberalism imported from the west. Realistic designs are the most frequently used and the least lines made up patterns. The second period of from the latter half of 1950s to 1970s saw that women wore their Jeogories and Chimas as suits. Screen printing technique enabled for various design patterns to come out. And the development of textile industry introduced various expression techniques such as making lace, meshing, flocking, burn-out etc cetera. The third period of 1980s saw that Hanbok became a kind of luxurious clothe as people's living standard rose. Hanbok again came into the spotlight, Hanbok designers came forward and their individualities are respected. The characteristic expression technique of grey-dying and geometric design patterns are more frequently used for the simple and modern beauty.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the historical changes of western men's underclothes in the first half of the 20C and analyze functions and features of men's underclothes. This study was to utilize many literatures in the analysis of historical changes of western men's underclothes. In the 1900's, the attached collar was giving place to the detachable, and the coloured shirt for day wear was becoming accepted. The correct wear fur various occasions was given. Double collar was the favourite for day wear. The dress-shirt protector worn over the dress-shirt front. Men preferred to vest and pants in one as a combined garment. In the 1910's, underclothes were permitting freer movement, but what was still more significant was the glowing inclination to reduce the layers which covered the body. The new conception of decency which was beginning to appear continued to characterize underclothing the symbols of social rank, expect for formal occasion, were declining. For day the white shirt was being displaced by the soft-fronted shirt. In the 1927-1930's, Underclothes were reduced in number, extent and thickness. Underclothing had lost two of its original function : it no longer preserved the warmth of the body, nor did it disguise its essential shape. Both sexes discarded the use of white underwear, In the 1930's, men saw an increasing preference for the coloured shirt. Combinations became increasingly popular and the singlet were displacing the under-vest in the 1930's. All undergarments were very commonly in natural colours. In the 1940's, for evening dress. shirt was plain linen front and square cuffs. Short trunks reached to mid-thigh, had a front waist yoke with three button fastening. Underclothes were pursued ease and activity.

Objectives: The major objectives of this study are to review the U.S. Standard which affected Korean worker's Right-to-Know Standard and to propose the way of improving the reliability of MSDS and labels. Methods: To review the U.S. Standard historically, we used the Federal Register, other criteria documentation and peer-reviewed literatures. Then we analysed major issues in the historical debatement on the worker's Right-to-Know Standard. Results: Korean MSDS Standard benchmarked the U.S. Hazard Communication Standard which finally established by President Reagan in 1983. Reagan's Hazard Communication Standard was aimed to preempt States Right-to-Know Acts for chemical industry and not to improve the awareness of workers on chemical hazards. Too much protection on trade secrets and low reliability of hazard information were key problems of the U.S. Standard. Conclusions: We recommend some ways to improve Korean MSDS and Label Standard. First, A new analysis frame is needed to understand the U.S Standard. Second, hazard identification is the key element of reliable information and chemical name and CAS number should be on the label of the container. Third, trade secrets should be limited to low hazardous substances and be permitted by government before the chemical product is on the market.

The purpose of this study is to investigate transition of pumping technology, irrigation water requirement, and unit area drainage discharge at the Pumping station-based Irrigation Associations (PIAs) in South Korea during Japanese colonial period (1910-1945). The PIAs established pumping stations and embankments along rivers for the purpose of irrigation, drainage and flood prevention until the mid-1920s. From the late 1920s after major river improvement projects, newly established PIAs did not include the flood prevention in their purpose of establishment. The design criteria of the irrigation and drainage projects, such as irrigation water requirements, design rainfall, and allowable ponding duration were decided according to the circumstances of PIAs. The gross irrigation water requirement of paddy fields increased from the 1920s to the 1940s, and reached the level of 0.0020 m3/s/ha (19 mm/d) in the 1940s for the fairly good irrigation status in the drought. The great floods of 1930, 1933, and 1934 triggered the increase in drainage discharge in the late 1930s, leading to the unit area drainage discharge of 0.9-2.6 m3/s/km2 for natural drainage and 0.3-1.1 m3/s/km2 for pump drainage. Therefore, several PIAs near the major rivers could avoid repetitive floods damage.
The Gyeongseong Women's Medical Training Center was created as the result of the efforts of our internal visionaries with meaningful foreign missionaries to cultivate female doctors, yet the systematic structure of the institution developed primarily out of Korean efforts. Koreans have tried hard to cultivate their descendants and the skills of the Korean people within this framework, challenging the oppression of the ruling class in a given environment, and the results have continued to this day. First, during the Early period (1890-1909), Korea began to establish women's education and the first female doctors were trained with the help of foreign missionaries. Second, during the Growth period (1910-1919), while it was difficult for women's education to be easily expressed during Japanese colonial era, the need for women's education was growing as part of the patriotic enlightenment movement, and female students who wanted to become doctors began to go abroad. In addition, during this period, the means to train female doctors in Korea was available, but this system was not recognized by the Japanese colonial government. Third, during the Preparatory period (1920-1928), the Gyeongseong Women's Medical Class, which gave practical training to female doctors, was established and centered on Rosetta Hall and female doctors who studied abroad. Fourth, a women's medical school was established during the Establishment period (1929-1938), which created a foundation for stable supply of professional women's medical personnel. In this article, we studied the process of women who were marginalized in education until they were trained as professional intellectuals, and we hope that it will help them understand the current women's education in Korea and draw directions in the future.
