  • Although a number of empirical studies found that political ideology plays a significant role in Korean elections, they entirely rely on cross-sectional data analysis. In contrast to previous research, this study investigates the effects of ideology in the 2012 Korean presidential election through standard panel data analysis. Specifically, using "EAI Panel Study, 2012", the effects of ideology on both candidate evaluation and vote choice were examined via fixed effects, random effects, and pooled regression analysis. And the results from applying the two most popular models of ideological voting, the proximity model and the directional change model were also compared. The results show that candidate evaluations and vote choice during the election (April, 2012- December, 2012) were significantly influenced by the ideological difference between voters and candidates, independent from partisanship and other standard socio-demographic factors. And this ideological voting during the election seems better captured by the directional change model than by the proximity model.

  • Thanks to the advantages of low cost and quick results, public opinion polls on election in Korea have been generally conducted by telephone survey, even though it has critical disadvantage of low response rate. In public opinion polls on election in Korea, the general method to handle nonresponses is adjusting the survey weight to estimate parameters. This study first drives mathematical expression of estimator and its bias with variance estimators with/without nonresponses in election polls in Korea. We also investigates the nonresponse rate of telephone survey on 2012 Korea presidential election. The average response rate was barely about 14.4%. In addition, we conducted a survey in April 2014 on the respondents's attitude toward telephone surveys. In the survey, the first reason for which respondents do not answer on public opinion polls on election was "feel bothered". And the aged 20s group, the most low response group, also gave the same answer. We here suggest that survey researchers motivate survey respondents, specially younger group, to participate surveys and find methods boosting response rate such as giving incentive.

A Research on Political Engagement Index(PEI) Model about Election Strategy's Immersion in Candidate in Perspective of Engagement -Focusing on university students standard of selecting candidate in election for 18th president (인게이지먼트 관점에서 선거전략의 후보자 몰입에 관한 정치 인게이지먼트 모델(PEI)연구 - 제 18대 대통령 선거에서 대학생들이 후보자를 선택한 기준을 중심으로)

  • Even though the importance of reading voters' share of mind increases in political campaign, there is no research which analyzes engagement in perspective of political campaign. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to calculate political engagement index which is qualitative indicator about political campaign's immersion in candidate in perspective of engagement and provide scientific data for political advertisement and publicity strategy. For this purpose, A and B candidates who ran for 18th president in December 19th, 2012 are selected for subjects of the research. The young people whose voter participations are low in this presidential election are selected as subjects for responding questionnaire and are surveyed. This research is qualitative evaluation which tires to supplement a limit of qualitative analysis of content by surpassing quantitative evaluation including advertisement, promotion, public opinion on politics, ratings, etc. Evaluation attribute is designed to distribute 8 PEI into 0~100 score. If PEI is more than 50, then the score indicates immersion above average. If PEI is lower than 50, then the score indicates immersion below average. The model of the research will contribute to development of methodological research of political campaign strategy. Also, in the future, this model can be used as micro-targeting in each political campaign's election strategy.

  • As the use of mass media in modern politics grows, its influential power is getting larger than before. Therefore, fairness of broadcasting is identified as a very important factor in the current law. In particular, whether the mass media has balanced attitude toward election issues has been a critical point, which maked the current law have separate provisons to deal with it. As for the fairness and bias, most existing studies had focused on how long the media dealt with the specific political issues, which leads to only quantitative analysis. Also, most analysis of the contents had been based on very personal judgement and evaluation of researchers rather than following the criteria which is based on scientific method. This study introduced the AHP analysis method to compare the quantitative data and qualitative data altogether, which aims to develope the indicator for weighted measures and measurement of the fairness. Research findings reveals that each broadcaster has, MBC was highly biased and KBS and SBS followed that. Compared with existing studies regarding the political fairness of the media.

  • With respect to the amphibolites in the Mungyong area of the central part of the Ogcheon Fold Belt, detail field occurrence, texture and geochemical properties within each sills and petrogenetic environment are presented. We confirmed that the amphibolites in the Sangnaeri Formation (Ogcheon Supergroup) and limestone(Cambro-Ordovician Chosun Supergroup) sequences are metamorphosed dolerite sills which are roughly concordant to bedding of country rocks. Geologic distribution of the rocks is distinctly improved compared with those of previous investigations. There are four main sills so far observed in the study area. One is emplaced in limestone(Ls Sill, about 3 m thick) and the others are emplaced in Sangnaeri Formation, which are named First Sill(about 40 m thick), Second Sill(about 100 m thick) and Third Sill(about 40 m thick) from lower to upper horizons of the meta-pelitic sequences. The thick sills are intruded by minor sills and the Third Sill is a composite sill consisting of two main and two minor sills. Each sill has fine grained chilled marginal zones and grain size increases inwards from both contacts. The Second Sill has various vein and white patch in central part and the rock compositions vary systematically from margin to central part. $SiO_2,\;Na_2O,\;K_2O\;and\;P_2O_5$ increase, whereas $TiO_2,\;FeO,\;Al_2O_3\;and\;CaO$ decrease toward the contort. We investigate the major and trace element variations of ten selected rock compositions as intruding initial magma take occurrence and chemical properties into consideration. The compositional variations of them can not be explained by fractionation crystallization of single magma. Geologic distribution, geochemical properties and previous data suggest that amphibolite precursors(basaltic magma) of the study area were intrusive as sill-like in an intracontinental rift environment.
