과산화수소가 배합된 제제의 치아미백효과에 관한 연구 (Tooth whitening effect of toothpaste containing hydrogen peroxide)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tooth whitening effect of 0.74% and 2.80% hydrogen peroxide toothpastes and safety on tooth and gingival tissue. Methods : Toothpastes containing 0.74% and 2.80% hydrogen peroxide were evaluated. In in-vitro test, some additives (sodium metaphosphate, sodium pyrophosphate and titanium dioxide) were added to the toothpastes. Hydroxyapatite specimens (HAPs) were made and stained using modified Stookey's methods. HAPs were treated for 1 hour at shaking incubator and brushed for 1,000 times as 250 gF with each diluted toothpaste. Before and after color was measured by colorimeter. Using double blind method, 99 Korean with natural maxillary anterior teeth were selected and the initial brightness (baseline) was measured by SHADEEYE-EX. Based on this measurement they were crossly distributed into control group (0% hydrogen peroxide), test 1 (0.74% hydrogen peroxide) and test 2 (2.80% hydrogen peroxide). After 2 weeks, people of each group were provided toothpaste and told to use 3 times a day right after every meal for 3 minutes. The brightness of teeth was measured 3 times for every one month. Results : ${\Delta}L$ was statistically significant among three groups in shaking test. ${\Delta}L$ of two test groups was statistically significant compared with control group but not between each test group in brushing test. After using toothpaste for 3 months, test 1 group and test 2 group were 15.89% and 31.23% more whitened compared with control group respectively (p<0.05). Rate of more whitened person of each test group was 24.2% and 40.5% more than control group respectively (p<0.05). There was no difference in the hypersensitivity during 3 months using toothpastes and no side effect on teeth or gums. Conclusions : Toothpastes containing 0.74% and 2.80% hydrogen peroxide showed tooth whitening effect and both were safe enough to use for tooth whitening.

연맥-헤어리베치 혼파에 의한 사료가치 및 생산성 향상 연구 (Studies on the Quality and Productivity Improvement by Mixed Sowing of Oat-Hairy Vetch)

  • 본 연구는 동계 사료작물의 사료가치와 생산성을 높이기 위한 목적으로 겨울철에 일년생 두과작물 헤어리베치와 연맥을 3년간('99∼'01) 혼파 재배하였는데 도출된 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 연맥과 헤어리베치의 혼파재배시 연맥과 헤어리베치의 출수기 및 개화기 등 생육은 큰 차이가 없었다. 사료가치를 보면 건물함량이 가을수확에서 15∼16%, 봄 수확에서 19∼20% 였고 조단백질 함량은 헤어리베치 단파시 30.1%로 가장 높았는데 연맥과 헤어리베치를 혼파했을 때는 연맥 단파보다 조단백질 함량이 높아졌다. ADF, NDF, 건물소화율 및 TDN 함량 등도 연맥단파보다 연맥+헤어리베치 혼파시 더욱 양호한 것으로 나타났다. 건물 수량은 연맥 단파구에서 3.7∼4.4톤/ha를 얻을 수 있으나 가을에 연맥과 헤어리베치를 혼파할 경우는 가을에 일차적으로 수확하여 사초로 이용하고 이듬해 봄에 재생한 헤어리베치를 또한 사료로 이용할 수가 있어 전체 약 9.5톤/ha 이상의 사초 건물수량을 얻을 수 있었고 이 때 조단백질 수량 및 TDN 수량도 가장 높게 나타났다. 따라서 기존의 가을에 연맥을 단파하는 것보다 연맥의 파종시 헤어리베치를 혼파하여 파종하는 것이 사초수량 뿐만 아니라 사료의 가치를 높일 수 있어 바람직하였다.

Meat Species Identification using Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification Assay Targeting Species-specific Mitochondrial DNA

  • Meat source fraud and adulteration scandals have led to consumer demands for accurate meat identification methods. Nucleotide amplification assays have been proposed as an alternative method to protein-based assays for meat identification. In this study, we designed Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assays targeting species-specific mitochondrial DNA to identify and discriminate eight meat species; cattle, pig, horse, goat, sheep, chicken, duck, and turkey. The LAMP primer sets were designed and the target genes were discriminated according to their unique annealing temperature generated by annealing curve analysis. Their unique annealing temperatures were found to be $85.56{\pm}0.07^{\circ}C$ for cattle, $84.96{\pm}0.08^{\circ}C$ for pig, and $85.99{\pm}0.05^{\circ}C$ for horse in the BSE-LAMP set (Bos taurus, Sus scrofa domesticus and Equus caballus); $84.91{\pm}0.11^{\circ}C$ for goat and $83.90{\pm}0.11^{\circ}C$ for sheep in the CO-LAMP set (Capra hircus and Ovis aries); and $86.31{\pm}0.23^{\circ}C$ for chicken, $88.66{\pm}0.12^{\circ}C$ for duck, and $84.49{\pm}0.08^{\circ}C$ for turkey in the GAM-LAMP set (Gallus gallus, Anas platyrhynchos and Meleagris gallopavo). No cross-reactivity was observed in each set. The limits of detection (LODs) of the LAMP assays in raw and cooked meat were determined from $10pg/{\mu}L$ to $100fg/{\mu}L$ levels, and LODs in raw and cooked meat admixtures were determined from 0.01% to 0.0001% levels. The assays were performed within 30 min and showed greater sensitivity than that of the PCR assays. These novel LAMP assays provide a simple, rapid, accurate, and sensitive technology for discrimination of eight meat species.

치아 이상의 발생 빈도와 양상에 관한 연구 (A STUDY ON PREVALENCE AND PATTERN OF DENTAL ANOMALIES)

  • An objective definition of the anomaly is not avaliable and most investigators define the term differently or fail to describe their criterion. Because dental anomaly may lead to many complications, early detection and diagnosis of dental anomalies are essential steps in the evaluation of the child patient and in treatment planning. These procedures require detailed medical and dental histories, through clinical examination and the use of radiographs. So, this study was designed to find out the prevalence of dental anomalies. The clinical and roentgenographic examination was undertaken for 8,054 children at age from 0 to 15 years and statistical analysis was done. The results were as follows : 1. Among the examined subjects, 2,134 subjects(26.5%) showed dental anomalies. The prevalence of individual dental anomalies were as follows : supernumerary teeth 15.6%, congenitally missing teeth 6.6%, fusion 2.2%, odontoma 0.35%, microdontia 1.2%, macrodontia 0.05%, gemination 0.22%, talon cusp 0.36%, dens evaginatus 0.24%, dens invaginatus 0.15%, dilaceration 0.27%, taurodontism 0.09%, abnormal tooth position 1.7%, natal & neonatal teeth 0.92%, amelogenesis imperfecta 0.01%. 2. Significant correlations between the groups with individual dental anomalies were as follows : between group I and other groups, there was negative correlation, especially group I and group II. And the correlation coefficient between male and female showed differences. 3. For the supernumerary teeth group, the prevalence of male was higher than female(p<0.001). While for the congenitally missing teeth, macrodontia, microdontia, abnormal tooth position group, the prevalence of female was greater than male(p<0.001). 4. For the congenitally missing teeth group, the mandibular primary lateral incisor showed the highest incidence in primary dentiton, while mandibular lateral incisor in permanent dentition. In the mandible(72.5%), this site showed higher prevalence than in maxilla. In the case with deciduous congenitally missing teeth, the prevalence of successive permanent congenitally missing teeth was about 33.9%, the incidence was highest in mandibular lateral incisors. 5. Most supernumerary teeth existed on middle area and showed inverted position and unerupted state. In addition, supernumerary teeth showed higher incidence on maxilla (99.3%). 6. In the case with deciduous fused teeth, the prevalence of successive permanent congenitally missing teeth was 39.9%, while that of successive permanent fused teeth was 2.7%. And the highest rate of the prevalence (40.3%) appeared in fusion of mandibular deciduous lateral incisor and canine. 7. In the case of odontoma, the prevalence was higher in maxilla(78.6%) and anterior region(82.7%) than mandible and posterior region.

구기자가 카드뮴 급여에 의한 흰쥐의 혈 중 호르몬에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Korean Gu-Gi-Ja Tea on Plasma Hormone in Cd-administered Rats)

  • 카드뮴 급여에 따른 구기자차 음용수가 흰쥐의 신장 무게, 신장 조직의 카드뮴 함량과 혈중 renin 및 aldosterone 호르몬 함량에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 체중 증가량과 식이 효 율은 각각 카드뮴 농도를 달리하여 급여한 군은 대조군, 구기자차 음용수군, 카드뮴과 구기자차 음용수 병합 급여군에 비하여 유의적으로 감소되었다. 신장조직의 무게에서 대조군이 2.33 g, 구기자 차 음용수 급여군은 2.51 g으로 대조군에 비하여 약간 감소하였고 각각 농도를 달리 한 카드뮴 급여군은 카드뮴과 구기자차 음용수 병합 급여군에 비하여 유의적으로 감소하였다. 신장조직의 카드뮴 함량은 구기자차 음용수군이 0.15$\mu\textrm{g}$/g, 대조군은 0.21 $\mu\textrm{g}$/g으로 대조군에 비하여 감소하였고, 각각 농도를 달리한 카드뮴 급여군에 비하여 구기자와 카드뮴 병합 급여군이 유의적으로 감소되었다. Renin 활성도에서 구기자차 음용수 급여군은 14.20 ngAl/mL/hr으로 대조군인 16.89 ngAl/mL/hr에 비하여 약간 감소하였으나 유의적 인 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 각각 농도를 달리한 카드뮴 급여군은 28.72, 29.12 ngAl/mL/hr으로 카드뮴과 구기자 차 음용수 병합 급여군인 17.99, 16.52 ngAl/mL/hr에 비하여 유의성 있게 증가하였다. Aldosterone활성도에서 대조군에 비하여 구기자 차 음용수 급여군이 약간 감소하였으나 유의적인 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 각각 농도를 달리한 카드뮴 급여군은 각각 731.37 pg/mL, 820.01 pg/mL에 비하여 카드뮴, 구기자차 음용수 병합 급여군인 408.48, 385.93 pg/mL로 유의적으로 감소하였다.

보육시설 및 유치원 급식 관리자의 위생관리 인식도 조사 (Evaluation of Foodservice Managers' Perception on Safety Management in Childcare Centers and Kindergartens)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of foodservice managers in childcare centers and kindergartens for identifying the vulnerable areas of safety management. The foodservice managers in 1,144 of nationwide childcare centers and kindergartens were surveyed from May to October 2007 to answer a total 72 questions in areas of general characteristics, actual practice of foodservice management and safety management perception. Meals were served in 97.7% of surveyed facilities and 91.0% among them were self-operated. The hiring rate (27.8%) of dietitians in childcare centers was significantly lower than the rate (82.0%) of kindergartens. The needs of dietitian employment between childcare centers and kindergartens differed as 44.9% and 87.5%, respectively. In knowledge on food-borne illnesses, they have the wrong information in the field of season for frequent outbreak, major pathogens and foods causing food-borne illnesses. The food-borne illnesses (36.2%) were indicated as the major problem in foodservice facilities and the degree of risk exposure was considered as safe (70.1%). More than 70% of both facilities answered as sanitary in the status of personal hygiene. Only 38.0% recognized the Facility and Equipment Standard in the Childcare Law and Early Childhood Education Law. In preparation of meals and management of cooking processes, kindergarten scored significantly high compared to childcare centers (p < 0.05 or p < 0.01) while the necessity of standards was not different in both facilities. Among managers surveyed, 28.8% had taken food safety education from professional institutions and more than 80% in both facilities indicated the need of professional educations. These results suggest that it is necessary for the systematic sanitary education of foodservice managers by developing the sanitary management standard as well as the amendment of laws related foodservice in childcare centers and kindergartens.

  • Dental Implants have been proved to be successful prosthetic modality in edentulous patients for 10 years. However, there are few reports on the survival of implant according to location in molar regions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the $4{\sim}5$ years' cumulative survival rate and the cause of failure of dental implants in different locations for maxillary and mandibular molars. Among the implants placed in molar regions in Gwangju Mir Dental Hospital from Jan. 2001 to Jun. 2002, 473 implants from 166 patients(age range; $26{\sim}75$) were followed and evaluated retrospectively for the causes of failure. We included 417 implants in 126 periodontally compromised patients, 56 implants in 40 periodontal healthy patients, and 205 maxillary and 268 mandibular molar implants. Implant survival rates by various subject factors, surgical factors, fixture factors, and prosthetic factors at each location were compared using Chi-square test and Kaplan-Meier cumulative survival analysis was done for follow-up(FU) periods. The overall failure rate at 5 years was 1O.2%(subject level) and 5.5%(implant level). The overall survival rates of implants during the FU periods were 94.5% with 91.3% in maxillary first molar, 91.1% in maxillary second molar, 99.2% in mandibular first molar and 94,8% in mandibular second molar regions. The survival rates differed significantly between both jaws and among different implant locations(p<0.05), whereas the survival rates of functionally loaded implants were similar in different locations. The survival rates were not different according to gender, age, previous periodontal status, surgery stage, bone graft type, or the prosthetic type. 저신장과 비만도의 상관성 분석 - 저신장을 주소로 내원한 환아 236명을 대상으로 (Correlation between Short Stature and Obese Degree - Intended for the Case of 236 Patient in the Name of Short Stature)

  • Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate correlation between short stature and obese degree. And we also wanted to know the characteristics of patients visited clinic in the name of 'short stature'. Methods Height, body weight, BMI, fat mass, lean body mass, percent body fat were taken intended for 236 patients in the name of short stature. To all the patient questionnaire for growth clinic was drawn up, and ultrasound scan was taken through calcaneous of the right foot. The patients were classified to three groups - short, average, tall group - according to relative position of mid-parental height. It was analysed that the differences between groups in obese degree. Also was investigated correlation between position of short stature and obese degree, and between obese degree and bony maturity. Results & Conclusion 1. The average ages of patients in the name of 'short stature' were $12.69{\pm}3.93$ years old in boys, $10.66{\pm}3.67$ years old in girls. And it seemed to be just before second rapid maturing period. 2. The average BMI were $20.58{\pm}4.07kg/m^2$ in boys, $18.65{\pm}2.85kg/m^2$ in girls, and average percent body fat were $21.99{\pm}7.35%$ in boys, $26.01{\pm}6.35%$ in girls. 3. The numbers of obese children were 34(31.2%) in boys, 19(14.9%) in girls on the basis of BMI. And the numbers were 39(35.8%) in boys, 53(41.7%) in girls on the basis of percent body fat. There was a big difference in case of girls. 4. The numbers of AG(average group) were 48(44.0%) in boys, 60(47.2%) in girls, the numbers of SG(short group) were 35(32.1%) in boys, 31(24.4%) in girls, and numbers of TG(tall group) were 26(23.9%) in boys, 35(27.6%) in girls. 5. There were no significant differences among the groups in BMI, lean body mass, fat mass, percent body fat. Only significant difference in DI(disease index). 6. There were no significant correlation between PH(percent height) and BMI, leanbody mass, fat mass, percent body fat. Only significant correlation in DI(disease index). 7. There were no significant differences between DA(difference between bone age and chronorogical age) and BMI, leanbody mass, percent body fat. Only significant correlation in fat mass.

꽃게, Portunus trituberculatus (Miers, 1876) 유생의 수온변화에 따른 탈피와 성장 (Molting and growth of the Larval Swimming Crab, Portunus trituberculatus (Miers, 1876), at different water temperature)

  • Intermolt periods, growth rates, survival (%) and relative growth of the megalopa larvae of Portunus trituberculatus (Miers, 1876) were studied up to the crab 7th stage for 160 days in the 3 different temperature groups in which each has 60 larvae. The higher the water temperature was the shorter the intermolt period was in each crab stage. In addition, a deviation of intermolt periods was shown as few as the water temperature gets higher. The intermolt period in the 7th crab stage was $29.8{\pm}3.26$ days in the experimental group at the room temperature, $45.2{\pm}3.89$ days at the temperature of $17^{\circ}C$, and $25.6{\pm}2.23$ days at the temperature of $27^{\circ}C$, respectively. The survival (%) of larvae of P. trituberculatus (the crab 7th stage) is the highest in the group at the room temperature: However, they showed 15% at the temperature of $27^{\circ}C$ and 10% at the temperature of $17^{\circ}C$. All the groups were shown the similar relative growth, but significant differences appeared in some comparison. The sizes (mean growth of carapace width) of the crabs in the group at the temperature of $27^{\circ}C$ reached 5.01~25.45 mm length (it is the longest among the groups) from the crab 1th to the crab 7th stage. However, the sizes (mean growth of carapace width) of room temperature were 4.99~22.26 mm and the size of crab in the group at the temperature of $17^{\circ}C$ reached 4.8~17.26 mm, The sizes (mean growth of carapace length) of the crabs in the group at temperature of $27^{\circ}C$ reached 2.88~13.56 mm, However, the size of the crab in the group at the room temperature showed 2.88~12.34 mm, while in the group at temperature of $17^{\circ}C$, their average growth of carapace length were 2.51~8.03 mm. The growth rates of larvae of P. trituberculatus (from the crab 1th to the crab 7th stage) were changed with the increase of the instar stage, however their changes showed irregular.

도정 유무에 따른 제주산 보리의 항산화 활성 비교 (Comparison of antioxidant activities of pearled and wholegrain barley harvested in Jeju)

  • 본 연구에서는 제주산 쌀보리인 일반보리, 청보리, 흑보리를 이용하여 도정 유무에 따른 항산화 성분과 활성을 비교하였다. 제주산 쌀보리의 항산화 성분인 총 폴리페놀 함량은 도정하지 않은 쌀보리에서 139.99-149.90 ㎍ GAE/g, 도정한 쌀보리는 91.14-125.45 ㎍ GAE/g 범위로 나타나 도정하지 않은 쌀보리에서 보다 높은 총 폴리페놀 함량을 보였다. 또한 총 플라보노이드 함량도 도정하지 않은 쌀보리(0.89-1.01 ㎍ QE/g)가 도정한 쌀보리(0.50-0.54 ㎍ QE/g)보다 높은 함량을 나타내었다. HPLC로 분석한 제주산 쌀보리의 페놀성 화합물로 gallic, protocatechuic, vanillic, p-coumaric 및 ferulic acid가 주로 검출되었으며, 도정하지 않은 흑보리와 도정한 일반보리에서는 p-coumaric acid는 검출되지 않았다. Tocopherols 및 tocotrienols 분석 결과에서는 8가지 이성체 중 α-T3 함량이 높았고, 도정하지 않은 쌀보리의 α-T3는 20.68-33.09 ㎍/g으로 도정한 쌀보리 8.93-14.98 ㎍/g보다 유의적으로 높게 검출되었다. 제주산 쌀보리의 in vitro 항산화 활성 결과에서 금속 이온 제거능을 제외하고 도정하지 않은 쌀보리가 높은 항산화 활성을 나타내었고, 항산화 활성 중 SOD 소거 활성이 높게 나타내었다. In vitro 항산화 활성은 총 폴리페놀 및 총 플라보노이드 함량에 비해 총 tocopherols 및 tocotrienols 함량에 더 높은 상관관계를 보였다. 따라서 도정하지 않은 제주산 쌀보리에서 높은 항산화 성분 및 활성이 나타나 이를 천연 항산화제로 활용 가능할 것이라 생각된다.
