  • The cellulloytic enzymes, such as FPase and amylase, production by Trichoderma inhamatum KSJ1 using 10L air circulation bioreactor were tried. Physical properties of the employed bioreactor, mixing time, $k_{L}$ a were examined in airflow conditions of enzyme production cultures. Mixing time of distilled water at 0.6, 1.2, 1.8 vvm were 25, 21, 9 sec, respectively, and mandel's medium using rice straw and pulp as carbon sources were 31, 25, 15 sec. Mixing time decreased when airflow rate increased. $k_L$ a of distilled water at 0.6, 1.2, 1.8 vvm were measured -22.52, -29.31, -39.62, respectively, and the mandel's medium were -47.8, -18.5, -21.4. The $k_L$ a values was increased linearly as the air-flow rates increased. However the values in mandel's medium showed different results, especially at 0.6 vvm. Amylase and FPase activity at the 1.2 vvm was 3.39U/mL, 0.72U/mL in 5 days cultivation. and the activities at 0.6 vvm were 2.01U/mL, 0.39U/mL, respectively. The enzyme productivity at 1.2 vvm was higher than at 0.6 vvm, indicating that high oxygen tension is requested for the efficient enzyme production culture of T. inhamatum KSJ1.

  • The antioxidative ability on the basis of reduced glutathione sulphydryl level, the inhibition activities of linoleic acid peroxidation of cell free extract of Lactobacillus spp. and the effects of types of media and growth phase of the cells on the cellular GSH level have been determined. Correlation between reduced glutathione sulphydryl level and antioxidative ability of Lactobacillus spp. was analyzed: Lactobacillus casei HY 2782 contained 25.15 $\mu$mole/g of GSH, the cellular GSH level of L. casei HY 2782 reached maximum after 24 h of cultivation and tended to decrease on further cultivation up to 72 h. There was a significantly higher level of cellular GSH when grown in de Man Rogosa and Sharpe (MRS) broth than in tryptone phytone yeast extract (TPY) broth or bromcresol pruple dextrose (BCP) broth (p<0.05). The antioxidant activity of cell free extract of Lactobacillus spp. have been shown to be significantly different among strains in the inhibition of linoleic acid peroxidation by thiobarbituric acid (TBA) test (p<0.01). L. casei HY 2782 and L. acidophilus ATCC 4356 revealed a high degree of antioxidative effect in linoleic acid oxidation system. Spearmans' rank correlation coefficient between inhibitory activity on linoleic acid peroxidation and cellular GSH levels of Lactobacillus spp. was 0.65, which means a significant positive correlation.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of a nutrition and exercise education program on weight control and nutrition knowledge. The nutrition-exercise educational period was 12 weeks. The subjects were 160 adult women with an average age of 48.1 years. We investigated general characteristics, diet history, eating habits, and intake frequencies of six food groups by survey. A total of 94 women among the subjects participated in the pre and post nutrition knowledge evaluations and anthropometric data assessment. After the program, body weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference significantly decreased. Further, % of body fat decreased, but not significantly. BMI significantly decreased (p<0.001) from 25.14 to $24.80kg/m^2$, and waist circumference significantly decreased (p<0.001) from 79.72 to 77.63 cm. The nutrition knowledge scores of subjects significantly increased (p<0.001) from 8.01 to 9.03. However, there was little change in employment. These results suggest that the nutrition-exercise education program may improve obesity index and nutrition knowledge. However, it is necessary to develop a specialized weight control program for workers.

  • Purpose: This examined the effect of Kinesio taping pre-intervention on the pain, tenderness, proprioceptive sensation, and muscle strength associated with delayed onset muscle soreness. Methods: Thirty subjects were divided into a Kinesio taping application group of 15 subjects and a control non-taped group of 15 subjects, and the changes in individual variables were analyzed before taping and at 24, 48, and 72 hours after taping using two-way repeated ANOVA. Post-hoc t-tests were conducted in the cases with intergroup interactions, and the significance level ${\alpha}$ was set to ${\alpha}=0.01$. Results: The changes in pain during rest were significantly different only for the times, while the changes in pain during exercise were significantly different for the times, interactions between the times and groups, and intergroup changes (p<0.05). The changes in tenderness were significantly different for the times and for interactions between the times and groups (p<0.05). The changes in proprioceptive sensation were significantly different for the times, interactions between times and groups, and intergroup changes (p<0.05). The changes in muscle strength were significantly different only for the times (p<0.05). Conclusion: The application of Kinesio taping had positive effects on the pain, tenderness, and proprioceptive sensation of delayed onset muscle soreness. These results suggest that Kinesio taping can be a useful therapeutic factor in future studies and in clinical settings.

  • The ratio of trivalent to divalent copper has been determined by the redox titration for two superconducting phases of $YBa_2Cu^{3+}_{2x}Cu^{2+}_{3-2x}O_{6.5+x}$ with the onset temp. of 60K (x = 0.23 ${\pm}$ 0.01) and 90K (x = 0.35 ${\pm}$ 0.02), and for the insulating one (x ${\cong}$ 0) which was kept in an ambient atmosphere for 72 hrs. It is found that $T_c$, and the ratio of $Cu^{3+}/Cu^{2+}$ depend strongly on the annealing temperature and time. A typical orthorhombic phase can easily be obtained by a slow cooling or stepwise cooling at $PO_2$ = 1 atm, and shows a high Tc (ca. 90K) superconductivity.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the interrupted chest compression time during the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) depending on different AED practice training methods, and to report differences in self-efficacy before and after training. Methods: We enrolled university freshmen who have had cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training but have not or have had AED training but over 6 months. We examined differences between the group that practiced only shockable rhythms during training and the group that practiced both shockable and non-shockable rhythms. Results: A total of 72 individuals participated in this study, with 36 individuals each in the control and experimental groups. There was no statistically significant difference in the proficiency of AED usage between the two groups. In non-shockable cases, the experimental group showed shorter chest compression interruption time than the control group (2.30±1.21sec vs. 3.16±1.73 sec; p<0.01). In terms of self-efficacy before and after training, both groups showed higher self-efficacy after than before training. Conclusion: Individuals who underwent training that provided practice on both shockable and non-shockable rhythms had a shorter interrupted chest compression time when using the AED.

  • Objectives: This study attempted to examine the association between health literacy and health-promoting behavior, and identify the major variables that affect the health-promoting behavior of university students. Methods: This was a descriptive correlation study that identified the degree of health literacy and health-promoting behavior of 248 university students (119 male and 129 female) and examined the correlation between the two and factors influencing them. The questionnaire covering health literacy comprised 66 questions, and that for health-promoting behavior comprised 10 questions covering eating habits, 3 questions about physical activity, and 10 questions involving stress. Results: The score for health literacy was 41.56 ± 18.38 out of 66 points, and that for health-promoting behavior was 65.27 ± 11.21 points (27.61 ± 6.72 points for eating habits, 7.23 ± 2.56 points for physical activity, and 30.44 ± 5.61 points for stress). Health literacy and health-promoting behavior had a significant positive correlation (r = 0.175, P < 0.01). The perceived health status (β = 0.391, P < 0.001) was the most important variable in health-promoting behavior, followed by health literacy (β = 0.236, P < 0.001). Conclusions: It is necessary to develop a systematic educational strategy and implement educational programs to improve health literacy as well as encourage health-promoting behavior and thus increase the perceived health levels of university students.

  • To ensure the safety margin of a reactor pressure vessel (RPV) under normal operating conditions, it is regulated through the pressure-temperature (P-T) limit curve. The stress intensity factor (SIF) obtained by the internal pressure and thermal load should be obtained through crack analysis of the nozzle corner crack in advance to generate the P-T limit curve for the nozzle. In the ASME code Section XI, Appendix G, the SIF via the internal pressure for the nozzle corner crack is expressed as a function of the cooling or heating rate, and the wall thickness, however, the SIF via the thermal load is presented as a polynomial format based on the stress linearization analysis results. Inevitably, the SIF can only be obtained through finite element (FE) analysis. In this paper, simple prediction equations of the SIF via the thermal load under, cool-down and heat-up conditions are presented. For the Korean standard nuclear power plant, three geometric variables were set and 72 cases of RPV models were made, and then the heat transfer analysis and thermal stress analysis were performed sequentially. Based on the FE results, simple engineering solutions predicting the value of thermal SIF under cool-down and heat-up conditions are suggested.
