  • In Korea, the calculation of quantitative similarity is commonly used to gauge the substantial similarity of computer programs. Substantial similarity should be assessed by considering the quantity and quality of areas that show similarity, but in practice, qualitative aspects are reflected by multiplying the weighted value in the calculation of quantitative similarity. However, such a practical method cannot be deemed adequate, considering the fundamental characteristic of the judgment on substantial similarity, which holds that the quantitative and qualitative aspects of similar areas should be considered on an equal footing. Thus, this study pointed out the issue regarding the use of weighted value and sought appropriate ways to take into account qualitative aspects when assessing the substantial similarity of computer programs.

  • This study conducted a student-centered inquiry lesson on the similarity of figures using AlgeoMath, with student learning aspects analyzed from a communication perspective. This approach aimed to inform pedagogical implications related to teaching geometric similarity. Through utilizing AlgeoMath, students were able to visually confirm that their chosen figures were similar, experiencing key mathematical concepts such as the ratio of similarity to the area of similar figures, and congruency and similarity conditions of triangles. In the lessons applying this concept, we categorized the features of similarity learning displayed by students, as seen in the communication aspects of their exploratory activities, into 'Understanding similarity ratios', 'Grasping conditions of similarity in triangles', and 'Comparing concepts of congruency and similarity'. Through exploratory activities based on AlgeoMath, students discussed the meaning and mathematical relationships of key concepts related to similarity, such as the ratio of similarity to the area of figures, and the meaning and conditions of congruence and similarity in triangles. By improving misconceptions about the similarity of figures, they were able to develop deeper mathematical understanding. This study revealed that in teaching and learning the geometric similarity using AlgeoMath, obtaining meaningful pedagogical outcome was not solely due to the features of the AlgeoMath environment, but also largely depended on the teacher's guidance and intervention that stimulated students' thinking.

  • The study aims to determine the significance and characteristics of self-similarity inherent in natural objects or phenomena, the existence of self-similarity in design created by fashion designers, and the traits and internal significance implied in self-similarity and their effects on fashion. The subject of the study is Viktor & Rolf, and the scope of the study is the collections created from 2001 to 2014, which include designs implemented in their early years and those unveiled in the media. Self-similarity means attributes of a fractal structure appearing without change in the original form, even after modification of scale or direction in terms of shape or phenomena. As self-similarity is applied to the arts and design sectors, it leads people to pay attention to fundamental characteristics and intrinsic forms as a factor of expressing a unique creative world. Analysis of Viktor & Rolf collections generated ribbons, overlapping/juxtaposition, side decorations and exaggerated design elements as basic units of self-similarity. These factors had self-similarity rates as high as 84%. Self-similarity was established as design elements formed in the incipient stage were repeated in a certain form, and continued for a long period of time. It served as an element that recognizes design and a fashion designer at the same time. Characteristics of self-similarity appearing in Viktor & Rolf collections can be summarized as homeostasis based on an equivalent relationship, balance based on self-organization, reducibility into essential elements, and uniqueness based on odd shapes. These characteristics influenced the pursuit of consistent brand image, the maintenance of a fashion designer's creative world, the formation of styles and the expression of a fashion designer's identity.

  • The similarity detecting method that is basically used in most plagiarism detecting systems is to use the frequency of shared words based on morphological analysis. However, this method has limitations on detecting accurate degree of similarity, especially when similar words concerning the same topics are used, sentences are partially separately excerpted, or postpositions and endings of words are similar. In order to overcome this problem, we have designed and implemented a plagiarism detecting system that provides more reliable similarity information by measuring sentence similarity and syntactic word similarity in addition to the conventional word similarity. We have carried out a comparison of on our system with a conventional system using only word similarity. The comparative experiment has shown that our system can detect plagiarized document that the conventional system can detect or cannot.

  • As the information society develops, various cases of copyright infringement have occurred. In many disputes between companies, software similarity appraisal is dominated. This thesis is a study on the method of calculating the similarity of the standards subject to appraisal. In other words, it is a study to calculate the amount of revision and addition of the specification to be assessed. The analysis method compares the table of contents of both specifications and finds the same or similar part. The similarity weight is determined according to the degree of similarity. Weights identify and assign the degree of similarity between the expert's expertise and the specification. If it is completely newly added, the similarity weight is 1, if it is partially modified, the similarity weight is 0.4, and if it is almost the same as before, it is calculated by giving a weight of 0.05. Through this paper, it was found that the result of calculating the similarity to the specification is 21.2 pages.

  • Verification of efficiency in data management fuzzy entropy and similarity measure were discussed and verified by applying reliable data selection problem and numerical data similarity evaluation. In order to calculate the certainty or uncertainty fuzzy entropy and similarity measure are designed and proved. Designed fuzzy entropy and similarity are considered as dissimilarity measure and similarity measure, and the relation between two measures are explained through graphical illustration. Obtained measures are useful to the application of decision theory and mutual information analysis problem. Extension of data quantification results based on the proposed measures are applicable to the decision making and fuzzy game theory.

  • Team-members may have diverse backgrounds and characteristics and such diversity is getting increased in teams in terms of demographics(gender, age, and educations) and capabilities(knowledge, skills, and experiences). A meta-analysis of the last 40 years studies, however, concluded that diversity in teams does not have the consistent main effect on team performances. On the other hand, according to theories of selection and socialization, similarity in values, backgrounds, and experiences buttress the positive and effective working environment. Therefore, we conduct an empirical study in favor of similarity in work teams for the sake of team effectiveness. We investigated the importance of the similarity of team-members on IT team effectiveness. Two aspects of similarity, demographic and cognitive, were considered together. The shared mental model(SMM) was introduced as the representative construct for the cognitive similarity. We found that SMM is more important than the demographic similarities on team effectiveness.

  • An inducer is forward-attached to an impeller to improve the suction performance. This paper described the experimental and numerical investigations on the concept of NPSH similarity about the inducer scale. As Reynolds number decreased for the same scale inducer, the hydraulic performance is slightly reduced because of the viscosity. The suction performance similarity is in good agreement. For different scale inducers, the NPSH similarity did not follow the conventional rule which is proportional to the square of the inducer diameter. A cavity of two times scale inducer grows faster under cavitation inception, and the head is more drop as the fluid passes blades. Because of the simplified cavitation model and vapor pressure, the NPSH similarity dose not have an accuracy. This study suggested an empirical formula for the NPSH similarity.

  • Designing of similarity on high dimensional data was done. Similarity measure between high dimensional data was considered by analysing neighbor information with respect to data sets. Obtained result could be applied to big data, because big data has multiple characteristics compared to simple data set. Definitely, analysis of high dimensional data could be the pre-study of big data. High dimensional data analysis was also compared with the conventional similarity. Traditional similarity measure on overlapped data was illustrated, and application to non-overlapped data was carried out. Its usefulness was proved by way of mathematical proof, and verified by calculation of similarity for artificial data example.

  • Face sketch synthesis plays an important role in public security and digital entertainment. In this paper, we present a novel face sketch synthesis method via local similarity and nonlocal similarity regularization terms. The local similarity can overcome the technological bottlenecks of the patch representation scheme in traditional learning-based methods. It improves the quality of synthesized sketches by penalizing the dissimilar training patches (thus have very small weights or are discarded). In addition, taking the redundancy of image patches into account, a global nonlocal similarity regularization is employed to restrain the generation of the noise and maintain primitive facial features during the synthesized process. More robust synthesized results can be obtained. Extensive experiments on the public databases validate the generality, effectiveness, and robustness of the proposed algorithm.
