The effect of Whole-body cryotherapy intervention after an eccentric exercise on PPT, CK and LDH of EIMD (원심성 운동 후 극저온 냉각치료 적용이 운동유발성 근육 손상 후 통증, CK 및 LDH에 미치는 효과)

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of WBC on the pressure pain threshold, CK and LDH after exercise-induced muscle injury. Design: A Randomized Controlled Trial. Methods: In this study, these subjects were assigned into three groups, a control group (n=10), experiment group I (n=10) and experiment group II (n=10). The subjects in experimental group I were intervened by WBC (-130℃, 3 minutes) before induced EIMD, experimental group II were intervened by WBC (-130℃, 3 minutes) after induced EIMD and control group weren't by any intervened after induced EIMD. Results: First, In the comparison of the PPT, there were significant variations with the lapse the time in three groups (p<.001) and there was a significant interaction of time and group (p<.001). In the among group comparison, the PPT of experimental group II was significantly larger than those of other groups (p<.01). Second, In the comparison of the CK, there were significant variations with the lapse the time in three groups (p<.001) and there was a significant interaction of time and group (p<.001). In the among group comparison, the CK of experimental group II was significantly smaller than those of other groups (p<.001). Third, In the comparison of the LDH, there were significant variations with the lapse the time in three groups (p<.01) and there was a significant interaction of time and group (p<.001). In the among group comparison, the LDH of experimental group II was significantly smaller than those of other groups (p<.001). Conclusion: The above results revealed that the WBC intervention after an exercise had a positive effect of muscle function after EIMD.

Effects of Several Medicinal Plants Extract on Survival Rate, Chlorophyll Contents and Photosynthetic Electron Transport Activity of Liverwort Photoautotrophic Cultured Cell (약용식물 추출액이 우산이끼 자가관양배양세포의 생존율, 엽록소함량 및 광합성전자전달 활성에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of allelochemicals from medicinal plants have been studied as photo-synthetic inhibitor for photoautotrophic(PA) cultured cells. The extracts from 9 plant species were used for measuring the physiological effects on the liverwort cultured cell in following areas; germination inhibition, chlorophyll contents, hill activity, cell viability, photosynthetic oxygen evolution,and protein pattern changes on SDS PAGE. Germination inhibitions were detected in all plant after treating with 10% extract. Especially, treatment with 10% extract from Pulsatilla koreana and Aconitum carmichael inhibited germinations completely. Chlorophyll fornation was inhibited completely by treating PA cells with extract of Pulsatilla koreana, whose effect was similar to that of DCMU 10-3M, inhibitor for photosynthetic electron trans-fer. The treatment with extract from Pulsatilla koreana on PA cell showed the highest hill activity and the lowest cell viability among extracts studied. Oxygen releasing has been decreased down to 14-77% after treating with extracts from Pinellia ternata, Araliacont inentaila, Pulsatilla koreana and Vitex rotundifolia. Especially, 60$\mu$l of Pulsatilla koreana extract into 2ml mixture of PA cell inhibit-ed oxygen release up to 50%. Protein bands on SDS-PAGE, 14kD, 31kD, 41kD, 53kD, and 73kD, were not detected after treating Pulsatilla koreana extract on PA cells.

Effects of Thoracic Mobility Exercise on the Range of Motion, Pain, Disability Index and Quality of Life in Middle-Aged Women with Chronic Back Pain (흉추 가동성 운동이 만성 요통 중년 여성 환자의 가동 범위, 통증, 장애 지수 및 삶의 질에 미치는 효과)

  • Background: This study investigated the effects on the range of motion, pain, disability index, and quality of life when applying thoracic mobility exercise in middle-aged women with chronic back pain. Design: pretest-posttest control group design Methods: The study subjects were 32 patients with chronic back pain of 3 months or more among middle-aged women divided 2 groups. All groups were tested thrice a week for 30 minutes per session for four weeks. Each subject was evaluated using the thoracic rotation Range of Motion, the numerical pain rating scale and pressure pain threshold, Disability Index(Oswestry Disability Index), the Quality of Life(SF-36) before and after treatment. Results: As a result of the study, the range of motion at T1 and T2 of the exercise group to which thoracic mobility exercise was applied was significantly increased in both left and right rotations(p<0.05). In the evaluation of pain, the number pain rating scale(NPRS) score decreased significantly(p<0.05), and the pressure pain threshold was significantly increased (p<0.05), but there was no significant difference from the control group. In the evaluation of the disorder index, the Oswestry disorder index decreased significantly after the experiment (p<0.05), and there was a significant difference in group comparison with the control group (p<0.05). In quality of life, there was a significant increase in PCS of SF-36(p<0.05), but there was no significant difference from the control group. Conclusion: Through this study, thoracic mobility exercise can be used as an effective exercise therapy intervention method to improve and promote physical factors of range of motion, pain and disability index, and physical components of quality of life when treating middle-aged women with chronic back pain in the future.

Experiment for Comparing the Effect of Forest-use Solid Fertilizer and Chemical Fertilizers (산림고형비료(山林固型肥料)와 화학비료(化學肥料)의 비효비교시험(肥効比較試驗))

  • This experiment was to investigate and analyse the effect of fertilizer at different level of treatment where the ordinary chemical fertilizers (Urea, TSP, muriate of potash) and the same amount of nutrients contained solid fertilizer respectively applied. 1. Ordinary chemical fertilizer known as quick releasing fertilizer showed its main effect in the first and second years but the effect was declined in the third year wheras slow releasing solid fertilizer showed no effect in the first year but gradually appeared in second year was reached at peak in the third year and effect continued till the forth year. 2. Both treatments, ordinary chemical fertilizer and solid fertilizer, showed fertilizer effect however ordinary chemical fertilizer treatment had 6.2 per cent of fertilizer loss over the solid fertilizer treatment. 3. Optimum fertilizer dose per tree seems to be 40-80 grams and fertilizer effect was continued for three years after the treatment. Fertilizer response in the first year only appeared on leaves with dark in color and its response on growth was observed in second year where ordinary chemical fertilizer applied and solid fertilizer treatment showed in third year. 4. For the above results, it may be desirable that optimum amount of ordinary chemical fertilizer should be applied once every other or every two years and solid fertilizer should be applied once every two years or every three years. 5. Solid fertilizer does not occure fertilizer damage when it was applied in excess and has labor saving advantage. 6. It is highly recommendable to produce solid fertilizer for the forest use in view of improving forest soil fertility and increasing forest resources in Korea.
