  • The conventional RZ-SSB demodulator consists of a limiter, FM demodulator and a linearizer. Since the conventional linearizer which cancels the high-order distortions must include Hilbert transformer, the performance of the demodulator are determined by the Hilbert transformer which is very complicated to realize in aeronautical telecommunication. This paper describes a method of designing RZ-SSB demodulator without Hilbert transformer. Since avionics systems are able to eliminate the inherent disadvantages in RZ-SSB, the results of this paper suggest that the RZ-SSB demodulator without Hilbert transformer is suitable for aeronautical telecommunication transceiver systems used in HF band.

  • In this paper, design and fabrication of the GPS receiving antenna using Hilbert curve fractal structure was proposed. The size of the antenna was miniaturized by transforming dipole structure into monopole structure because its size increases if Hilbert curve fractal dipole structure is used. To use a Hilbert curve structure, the current directions of the radiator were made oppositely each other. The size of the antenna is $10{\times}10{\times}0.8[mm]$, the line width is 0.25[mm]. The resonant frequency is 1.58[GHz] and its range is 1.52[GHz] ~ 1.65[GHz]. Frequency bandwidth is 130[MHz]. Antenna maximum gain is 3.09[dBi].

  • A hardware implementation of Hilbert transform is indespensible element in DSP system, but it suffers form a high complexity of system level hardware resulted in a large amount of the used gate. In this paper, we implemented the Hilbert transformer using MAG algorithm that reduces the complexity of hardware.

  • Recent development in wireless communication and mobile positioning technologies makes Location-Based Services (LBSs) popular. However, because, in the LBSs, users request a query to database servers by using their exact locations, the location information of the users can be misused by adversaries. Therefore, a mechanism for users' privacy protection is required for the safe use of LBSs by mobile users. For this, we, in this paper, propose a efficient cloaking region creation scheme using Hilbert curves in distributed grid environment, so as to protect users' privacy in LBSs. The proposed scheme generates a minimum cloaking region by analyzing the characteristic of a Hilbert curve and computing the Hilbert curve values of neighboring cells based on it, so that we may create a cloaking region to satisfy K-anonymity. In addition, to reduce network communication cost, we make use of a distributed hash table structure, called Chord. Finally, we show from our performance analysis that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing grid-based cloaking method.

  • In order to approximate the spatial query result size we partition the input rectangles into subsets and estimate the query result size based on the partitioned spatial area. In this paper we examine query result size estimation in skewed data. We examine the existing spatial partitioning techniques such as equi-area and equi-count partitioning, which are analogous to the equi-width and equi-height histograms used in relational databases, and examine the other partitioning techniques based on spatial indexing. In this paper we propose a new spatial partitioning technique based on the Hilbert space filling curve. We present a detailed experimental evaluation comparing the proposed technique and the existing techniques using synthetic as well as real-life datasets. The experiments showed that the proposed partitioning technique based on the Hilbert space filling curve achieves better query result size estimation than the existing techniques for space query size, bucket numbers, skewed data, and spatial data size.

  • This study proposed new methods to classify normal and epileptic seizure signals from EEG signals using peaks extracted by wavelet transform(WT) and Hilbert transform(HT) based on a neural network with weighted fuzzy membership functions(NEWFM). This study has the following three steps for extracting inputs for NEWFM. In the first step, the WT was used to remove noise from EEG signals. In the second step, the HT was used to extract peaks from the wavelet coefficients. We also selected the peaks bigger than the average of peaks to extract big peaks. In the third step, statistical methods were used to extract 16 features used as inputs for NEWFM from peaks. The proposed methodology shows that accuracy, specificity, and sensitivity are 99.25%, 99.4%, 99% with 16 features, respectively. Improvement in feature selection method in view to enhancing the accuracy is planned as the future work for selecting good features from 16 features.

  • The validation of performance test for newly developed or old-used sensor is very important in the earthquake monitoring and seismology using earthquake data. Especially the frequency response of the sensor is mainly used to correct the earthquake data. The technique of the calculation of phase and amplitude with Hilbert transformation for earthquake data that is filtered with band limited frequency in time domain is applied to calculate the frequency response of the sensor. This technique was tested for the acceleration sensors, CMG-5T of 1g and 2g installed on the vibration table at the laboratory and we could obtain satisfactory result. Tohoku large earthquake in 2011 observed at the station SNU that has accelerometer, ES-T and seismometer, STS-2 operated by KIGAM was also used to test the field data applicability. We could successfully get the low frequency response of broad band sensor, STS-2. The technique by using band limited frequency filter and Hilbert transformation showed the superior frequency response to the frequency spectrum ratio method for noisy part in data.

  • Because a sensor node in wireless sensor networks(WSNs) has limited resources, such as battery capacity and memory, data aggregation techniques have been studied to manage the limited resources efficiently. Because sensor network uses wireless communication, a data can be disclosed by attacker. Thus, the study on data protection schemes for data aggregation is essential in WSNs. But the existing data aggregation methods require both a large number of computation and communication, in case of network construction and data aggregation processing. To solve the problem, we propose a data protection scheme based on Hilbert-curve for data aggregation. Our scheme can minimizes communications among neighboring sensor nodes by using tree-based routing. Moreover, it can protect the data from attacker by doing encryption through a Hilbert-curve technique based on a private seed, Finally, we show that our scheme outperforms the existing methods in terms of message transmission and average sensor node lifetime.

  • This paper deals with an efficient index scheduling technique based on Hilbert curve and MBR for k-NN query in a single wireless broadcast channel environment. Previous works have two major problems. One is that they need a long time to process queries due to the back-tracking problem. The other is that they have to download too many spatial data since they can not reduce search space rapidly. Our proposed method broadcasts spatial data based on Hilbert curve order where a distributed index table is also broadcast with each spatial data. Each entry of index table represents the MBR which groups spatial data. By predicting the unknown location of spatial data, our proposed index scheme allows mobile clients to remove unnecessary data and to reduce search space rapidly. As a result, our method gives the decreased tuning time and access latency.

  • In this letter, a planar monopole UWB antenna with dual band-notched characteristics is proposed. The band-stop characteristics is realized by embedding the 1st/3rd order Hilbert-curve slots on the patch. With the dimension adjustment of each Hilbert-curve slots, the band rejection from 3.3 to 3.7 GHz and from 5.3 to 6 GHz can be accomplished easily. The VSWR and radiation pattern of the fabricated antenna are measured, and the proposed antenna would be adequate to a UWB applications.
