A Numerical Study on Thermo-hydro-mechanical Coupling in Continuum Rock Mass Based on the Biot′s Consolidation Theory (Biot의 압밀 이론에 근거한 연속체 암반의 열-수리-역학 상호작용의 수치적 연구)

  • As large underground projects such as radioactive waste disposal, hot water and heat storage, and geothermal energy become influential, the study, which consider all aspects of thermics, hydraulics and mechanics would be needed. Thermo Hydro-Mechanical coupling analysis is one of the most complex numerical technique because it should be implemented with the combined three governing equations to analyze the behavior of rock mass. In this study, finite element code, which is based on Biot's consolidation theory, was developed to analyze the thermo-hydro-mechanical coupling in continuum rock mass. To verify the implemented program, one-dimensional consolidation model under the isothermal and non-isothermal conditions was analyzed and was compared with the analytic solution. The parametric study on two-dimensional consolidation was also performed and the effects of several factors such as poisson's ratio and hydraulic anisotropy on rock mass behavior were investigated. In the future, this program would be revised to be used for analysis of general discontinuous media with incorporating discrete joint model.

Effect of Heat Capacity of Coagulant on Morphology of PVDF-Silica Mixture Through TIPS Process for the Application of Porous Membrane (다공성 분리막으로 응용을 위한 PVDF-실리카 혼합물의 응고액 열용량 변화에 따른 모폴로지 변화)

  • In this study, we prepared PVDF membranes via TIPS for water treatment applications. PVDF was used for its excellent chemical and mechanical properties. The effect of coagulation bath composition, temperature, and heat capacity on the overall membrane morphology was studied and observed using SEM. A mixture of DOP and DBP was used as the diluent, and silica was used as an additive. It was observed that as the heat capacity of the coagulation bath increased, the crystallization rate of PVDF decreased yielding larger pores. Also, as the heat capacity of the coagulation bath decreased, the crystallization rate of PVDF increased yielding smaller pores.

Culture Optimization for Bacillus lentimorbus G-74 by Using a Miscanthus purpurascens Juice Medium (억새즙액 배지를 이용한 Bacillus lentimorbus G-74 균주의 배양 최적화)

  • Miscanthus purpurascens Juice containing potassium (37,952 mg/L), nitrogen (14,000 mg/L), phosphorus (6,800 mg/L), magnesium (5,969 mg/L), calcium (5,910 mg/L), etc., was investigated to develop a novel meidum far the mass cultivation of useful microorganisms. For this research, we first isolated an antagonistic bacterium G-74 from soil, which showed strong growth inhibition against two phytopathogenic fungi, Rhizoctonia solani and Botrytis cinerea, and identified as Bacillus lentimorbus G-74 based on the morphological characteristics and MIDI analysis. Culture conditions for G-74 strain in the M. purpurascens juice medium were optimized. Dilution rate of the medium, temperature and initial pH for the optimum growth of G-74 strain were 30% (V/V), $35^{\circ}C$ and 5.0, respectively. It was found that additions of 2.0% (W/V) corn starch as a carbon source and 1.0% (W/V) yeast extract as a nitrogen source in this medium increased B. lentimorbus G-74 growth to 66% more efficient than Luria Bertani medium.

The role of matrix modifier and for the determination of cadmium in blood by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (흑연로 원자흡수분광법에 의한 혈중 카드뮴 분석시 매트릭스 개선제(matrix modifier)의 역할)

  • The low concentration of cadmium in the whole-blood was determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry(GFAAS) after the sample was diluted five-fold by 1% Triton X-100, 2% $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$ as matrix modifier and pyrocoated graphite tube with L'vov platform was tried remove the interferences of blood matrix and reduce the loss of volatility of cadmium at higher ashing temperature($600^{\circ}C$). The criteria for evaluating the accuracy and precision of this analysis was confirmed by analysis of interlaboratory comparison(Japan) and NIST SRM No. 909(Cd in Serum). The limit of the determination for cadium was 0.1ng/ml and the relative standard deviation(RSD) at 1.0ng/ml level was about 10% for the GFAAS.

Assessment of the impact of gated communities on social sustainability of neighborhoods in Seoul (서울의 빗장주거단지가 근린의 사회적 지속가능성에 미치는 영향 평가)

  • Most of the Korean apartment complexes are considered as gated communities having characteristics such as self-sufficiency in service provision, self-governance and exclusiveness. Today the exclusionary features of apartment complexes are reinforced by a new practice of erecting gates against pedestrians in addition to the existing walls without considering implication of the practice over neighborhoods. Three groups of residents, those who live in low-rise residential areas without walls, apartment complexes with walls and apartment complexes with walls and gates were surveyed to measure the impact of the new exclusionary practice of gated communities on social sustainability of neighborhoods. Gates turn out to improve social sustainability indicators related to life quality but lower social cohesion of neighborhoods by lowering inclusiveness indicator considerably. The new apartment complexes with increased exclusiveness shake the established order of co-existence between low-rise residential areas and apartment complexes and strengthen spatial and social segregation within neighborhoods.

The Usefulness of Transesophageal Echocardiography During Heart Surgery (개심술을 시행하는 환자에서 경식도 심초음파의 이용)

  • This study reviewed useful aspects of the intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography among the patients in whom heart surgery were undertaken between January 1996 and July 1996 at St.Pauls hospital, Medical College of Catholic University, Seoul, Korea. During that period, 61 patients were operated on because of valvular heart disease(25 patients), coronary artery disease(22 patients), congenital heart disease(13 patients), and combined coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease(1 patient). Two patients(1 redo-VSD and 1 valvular heart diease) needed repeated aortic cross clamping and complementary procedures because of incomplete initial procedures. There was no incidence of air embolism. We could observe significant relationship of cardiac output monitoring methods either by thermodilution technique and transesophageal echocardiography by linear regression analysis(p<0.001). We tested myocardial response(percentage of systolic wall thickness, PSWT) with low dose dobutamine challenge to predict post-CABG myocardial perfusion. And the test showed statistically significant resp.onse(sensitivity 76%, specificity 94.7%, positive predictive value 95%, negative predictive value 75%). These results suggest that cardiac surgeon could draw more benefits by intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography.

  • 용착금속의 미세조직은 크게 Acicular ferrite(AF), Ferrite with aligned second phase(FS), Primary ferrite(=Grain boundary Ferrite) 등으로 나눌 수 있다. 이 중 침상형 페라이트(AF)는 인성과 강도를 동시에 증가시킬 수 있으므로 이를 다량 확보하는 것이 용접산업의 관건이다. 본 연구에서는 침상형 페라이트 발생에 기여한다고 알려진 Ti 함량을 용착금속에서 단계적으로 조절하여 나타나는 미세조직과 특성변화를 관찰하였다. 모재는 HSB-600을 사용하였으며 용접재료는 ER100S-G급의 Ti가 함유되어 있는 것(A)과 미함유된 것(B)을 사용하였다. 모재 성분의 희석을 방지하기 위해 V-Groove 가공 후 Buttering 용접을 실시하였다. 중앙에 가공된 V-그루브에 이들 재료를 적절히 조합하고 용접(입열량 20kJ/cm)하여 Ti함유량을 총 4가지(0.002~0.025% Ti)로 제어하였다. 용접 후 각각의 시편에 대해 미세조직, 충격시험, O/N분석, 성분분석 등의 시험을 진행하였다. 미세조직 관찰결과 Ti함량이 증가할수록 AF는 증가하고 FS는 감소함을 확인할 수 있었으며 충격시험결과 Ti가 많이 함유된 시편일수록 더 낮은 연성취성 천이온도(DBTT)를 나타내었다. EDS와 SEM으로 관찰한 결과 Ti함량 증가에 따라 비금속개재물의 크기는 작아지고 밀도는 높아지는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며 개재물 내에서의 Ti함량도 더 많아지는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다.

Spray 방법을 이용한 결정질 태양전지 Emitter 확산의 최적화 연구

  • 결정질 태양전지에서 도핑(Doping)은 반도체(Semiconductor)의 PN 접합(Junction)을 형성하는 중요한 역할을 한다. 도핑은 반도체에 불순물(Dopant)을 주입하는 공정으로 고온에서 진행되며 온도는 중요한 변수(Parameter)로 작용한다. 본 연구에서는 여러 가지 에미터(emitter)층 형성방법 중에 가장 저가이면서 공정과정이 간단하며 대면적 도핑이 용의한 Spray 방법을 통해 효과적인 에미터 층 형성의 최적화를 위해 DI water에 각각 1%, 3%, 5% 7%로 희석된 H3PO4용액 으로 850$^{\circ}C$에서 열처리 시간을 가변해 가며 최적화된 면저항과 표면농도 특성을 분석하였다. 도핑소스가 웨이퍼(wafer) 각각의 표면에 흡착시킨 후 오븐에 넣어 150$^{\circ}C$에서 5분간 건조시킨 후 퍼니스(furance)에 넣어 시간을 가변해 가며 도핑시켰다. Spray 방식은 기존의 방식보다 저렴하고 In-line 공정에 적합하며 대용량으로 전환이 쉽다는 많은 장점을 가지고 있다. 도핑시 먼저 spray를 이용하여 웨이퍼 표면에 균일하게 용액을 흡착시킨 후 오븐에서 150$^{\circ}C$에서 5분간 건조 후 furnace에 넣어 850$^{\circ}C$에서 시간을 가변 해가며 실험하였다. H3PO4용액의 비율이 1%일 때는 2분 이상 열처리를 하였을 때 60${\Omega}/{\Box}$ 이하로 내려가지 않았다. 이는 최초 표면농도가 낮아 더 이상 확산되지 않음을 의미한다. 또한 H3PO4의 비율이 3% 이상일 때는 열처리 시간이 1분 이하일 때 면저항의 변화가 거의 없었으나 2분 이상일 때는 시간에 따라서 점차 낮아졌으며 균일도 역시 좋아졌다. 이는 H3PO4의 비율이 3% 이상일 때는 표면농도가 높아서 1분 이하의 열처리 시간에서는 확산해 들어가는 양이 거의 같음을 알 수 있었다.

Controlled Growth of Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes Using Arrays of Ni Nanoparticles (Ni 나노입자의 배열을 이용한 다중벽 탄소나노튜브의 제어된 성장)

  • We have investigated the optimal growth conditions of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) using the chemical vapor deposition and the Ni nanoparticle arrays. The diameter of the CNT is shown to be controlled down to below 20 nm by changing the size of Ni particle. The position and size of Ni particles are controlled continuously by using wafer-scale compatible methods such as lithography, ion-milling, and chemical etching. Using optimal growth conditions of temperature, carbon feedstock, and carrier gases, we have demonstrated that an individual CNT can be grown from each Ni nanoparticle with almost 100% probability over wide area of $SiO_2/Si$ wafer. The position, diameter, and wall thickness of the CNT are shown to be controlled by adjusting the growth conditions.
