  • In this study we analyze critically the educational studies on the history of mathematics, and the results of the questionnaires to the mathematics teachers and mathematics teacher educators and interviews with them in order to highlight the problems which ought to be settled for more efficient using the history of mathematics in the mathematics classes. We ought to deepen the understanding of the meaning of mathematical concepts and its essential viewpoints through the historical development of mathematics, going beyond the interest and motivation of learning mathematics. In this respect there are insufficient sides in the results of the educational studies in the history of mathematics and in the recognition of the mathematics teachers about using history of mathematics. And the teachings of the history of mathematics in the mathematics teachers education courses are not sufficient in that they just survey the history of mathematics, and it is the very important task to develop the historic-genetic materials in the school mathematics and study the historic-genetic approach to the mathematics texts.

The Effect of Science Journal Writings on the cognitive and affective features of the science gifted students (과학일지 쓰기가 과학영재의 인지적 ${\cdot}$ 정의적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of science journal writings on the cognitive and affective features of the science gifted students. In this research, the tasks of on-line science journal writings were assigned for 6 months and the subjects in this study were 21 students of Chemistry Division of the Center for Science Gifted Education, Seoul National University. Consequently in science journals, science concepts are found in various aspects according to the writing formats, and psychological and behavioral characteristics of the science-gifted are revealed in positive or negative aspects. In cognitive prospect, science journal writing equips students with better understanding about science concepts and scientific research. In affective prospect, science journal writing help students improve observation and attitude toward science as wren as writing skills. Accordingly, science journal writing has positive effect on cognitive and affective characteristics of the science-gifted. In conclusion, acknowledged by most of science-gifted students as both beneficial and appropriate in their education program, science journal writing should be emphasized in education for science-gifted students.

  • 오늘날은 정보의 홍수라고 표현이 될 만큼 많은 양의 정보를 어디서나 얻을 수 있다. 이러한 많은 양의 정보 중 사람들은 그들이 필요한 정보를 얻기 위하여 인터넷을 사용하며 대부분의 사용자들이 포털 사이트의 검색 서비스를 통하여 그들이 원하는 정보를 검색하고 얻고 있다. 그러나 전통적인 여과 과정을 통해 검증된 인쇄 자원과는 다르게 인터넷상에 있는 자원은 대부분 여과되어 있다고 볼 수 없다. 인터넷상에서 발견되는 정보가 주로 여과되지 않은 상태라는 점을 이해하는 것도 정보를 얻는 사용자 입장에서 매우 중요하다. 그런 의미에서 웹에서는 제공되는 정보에 대한 선정, 조직화, 검색에 대한 표준화가 아직 없기 때문에, 단순히 웹 검색 엔진을 이용한 검색의 결과만을 통해서 원하는 정보를 찾는 것은 쉽 지가 않다(Spink et al, 1999). 비록 원하던 정보를 얻었다 해도 획득한 정보가 신뢰할 만한 것인지를 판단하기가 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 그러한 요구에 부응하기 위해 검색 서비스에 대한 사용자 선호 요인을 선별하고 설문 조사를 통해 검증하고자 한다. 본 연구는 크게 문헌 연구와 실증 연구로 구별되며, 실증 분석에서는 검색 서비스를 사용해 본 경험이 있는 인터넷 사용자를 대상으로 설문을 인터넷 사이트와 설문지를 배부하는 형식으로 진행하여, 통계 패키지를 이용 결과를 분석하였다. 문헌 연구에 따르면 인터넷 사이트를 사용하는데 있어서, 사용자 선호에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 정보 품질, 서비스 연계성, 인지된 유용성, 흥미성, 시스템 품질, UI의 편의성이 있으며 본 연구에서도 이러한 요인을 중심으로 연구 모형을 정하였다. 이러한 요인들에 대하여 가설을 정해 실증 분석을 한 결과, 기본적으로 검색 서비스에 대한 인지된 유용성과 UI의 편의성은 사용자 선호에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 반면에 정보 품질, 서비스 연계성, 흥미 성, 시스템 품질은 사용자 선호에 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 정보 품질과 시스템 품질의 결과는 유의 수준에서 크게 넘어가지 않는 결과가 나와 반드시 영향을 미치지 못하는 것은 아니라고 조사되었다. 본 연구는 검색 서비스라는 특정 서비스에 대해서 사용자 선호에 영향을 미치는 요인에 대해서 알아보고자 하였다. 이는 학문적인 측면에서 기존의 통합적인 웹사이트 평가에 대한 연구의 확장을 가능케 하였고, 개인사용자 측면에서는 좀더 좋은 정보를 제공하는 검색 서비스에 대한 이해를 높일 수 있는 계기가 되었다고 할 수 있다.

A Study on Changes in Logical Thinking Ability of Elementary Students Through Game-Based Robot Education (게임식 로봇교육을 통한 초등학생의 논리적 사고력 변화)

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of game-based robot education on the elementary students' logical thinking ability and academic achievement. 12 boys in the 6th grade from S elementary school from Namhae, Kyungnam participated in the study. The game-based robot education was applied to the participants 32 times in the procedures. The results from pre- and post-logical thinking tests and pre- and post-academic achievement were analyzed. After participating in the game-based robot education activities, there were meaningful statistical differences in the participants' logical thinking ability. The results of the study suggest that the game-based robot education has positive impact on students' ability to think logically. In addition, the game-based robot education improved children's motivation in learning.

  • Recently, storytelling was emphasized in mathematics education for students to have interest in mathematics and active attitude about the mathematics. Storytelling can provide a meaningful mathematical context that motivates children to learning mathematics actively. And also, the power of storytelling for engaging children in mathematics learning was evident in the many research. According to this trend, the new mathematics textbook applying storytelling was developed. Already this textbook applying storytelling was used in grade 1-2 in 2013. Grade 3-4 will use this new textbook in 2014 and grade 5-6 will use new textbook in 2015. This study reviewed the mathematics educational meaning of storytelling and discussed the educational rationale of introducing the storytelling in mathematics education, and offered practical teaching method for applying storytelling in mathematics instruction.

A Study on the Characteristic Expression in Picture Book Illustrations (동화책 일러스트레이션의 표현특징에 대한 연구)

  • In creating an illustration, rather than depend on the subjective expression of the illustrator, one should consider the characteristics of child cognitive development. Illustrations should be those which can arouse child's interesting and which can be educational. To do this, first, characteristic expressions shown in children's pictures can be used to arouse child's interesting. In creating an illustration, one should consider sufficiently "intuitive form" and "representative form" in order to appeal to curiosity of child. Second, illustrations should be able to be helpful to the development of child's intellect, emotion and imagination. The form is desired to be adequately exaggerated or reduced feature, to have anthropomorphic figure and to be fantastic composition considering the egocentrism and animalism of the child. As mentioned above, it can be said characteristic expression in picture book illustrations are affected by the two points - fascinating expression drawn by child and expression by illustrator, which can be helpful to the development of intellect, emotion and imagination.otion and imagination.

  • The number of companies which use Internet and Web grow at an explosive rate and most of them made use of the Web sites for business activity such as publicity, advertising, customer support, and online retailing. However, there are very few empirical studies on web sites evaluation based on theoretical framework. The primary purpose of this study is to evaluate motivational effectiveness of Web sites using the WebMAC Business instrument. In this paper, we introduced a lot of Web sites evaluation studies and several IS studies based on the motivation theory. Web sites evaluation was performed by four motivational factors which include stimulating, meaningful, organized, and easy-to-use. There are significant differences among the industry type about motivational factors. This study identifies areas for improvement of existing Web sites and suggests several guidelines for development of Web sites from the user's perspective.

The mediating effect of Grit between academic achievement satisfaction and Academic Helplessness of middle school students (중학생의 학업성취만족도와 학업무기력의 관계에서 Grit의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the mediating effect of grit in the relationship between academic achievement satisfaction and academic helplessness of middle school students. To this end, a survey was conducted on 575 middle school students in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, on academic achievement satisfaction, academic helplessness, and grit. This research was carried out by hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to understand the correlation analysis and mediating effect between major variables, and verified by Sobel test. As a result of the study, First, correlation analysis revealed a positive correlation between academic achievement satisfaction, grit, and academic helplessness. Second, regression analysis showed that both perseverance of effort and consistency of interest were partially mediated between academic achievement satisfaction and academic helplessness. This means that academic achievement satisfaction not only directly affects middle school students' academic helplessness, but also has an indirect effect through grit. Finally, a learning counseling plans (Self-analysis program and Environmental control program) was discussed to reduce the academic helplessness of middle school students.

New Conceptualization of Leisure Motivation: The Impacts of Leisure Motives on Selection of Leisure Activities (여가동기의 재구성: 여가동기에 따른 여가활동 선호)

  • Previous research in leisure motivation has been limited in terms of its overwhelming interest in beneficial outcomes of leisure activities, its short of coverage on wide range of modern leisure activities, and its lack of cultural perspectives. In order to overcome those limitations, the present research conducted a survey in which motives to participate in 48 leisure activities and frequency and importance of the activities were assessed. We categorized 7 categories of leisure activities (skill-involved, social, personal hobby, goal-oriented, relaxing, digital, and voluntary) and 7 categories of leisure motives (achievement, intimacy, psychological comfort, sensation-seeking, secondary, self-promoting, and no-fun). On the basis of the categorizations, momentary leisure motives and individual differences of the leisure motives were conceptualized and tested as a preceding factor of selection of leisure activities. This conceptualization was discussed in its practical implication of leisure education, consulting, and policy.

  • Minnesota state law requires County Extension Committees (CECs). The County Board of Commissioners appoints committee members. Extension Educators are responsible for using CECs to assure the value of Extension work in the County. This paper will explore underlying values, principles and practices that can effect the utilization of CECs in ways that benefit the work of Extension and make the process a good experience for CEC members and Extension Educator. The paper is based primarily on readings in the Journal of Extension, interviews with two Extension Educator, and information provided by the University of Minnesota Extension Service for CEC members.
