  • The object of this study is to find new evalution index for in-cylinder flow characteristics insteady of current swirl, tumble coefficient using steady flow test rig on intake port system. To this end, port flow rig test was conducted on DOHC head varying intake valve lift respectively. Finally combination angular coefficient and inclination angle were introduced as new evaluation index for in-cylinder angular flow characteristics.

  • Fracture behavior of ceramic dome port cover on air breathing engine using liquid and solid fuel propulsion system was carried out in this study. Fracture characteristics was tested and estimated using scaled model of ceramic dome port cover by Shock tube. Fracture behavior was obtained by the fracture pressure from pressure sensor and observed the scattering phenomena of fracture specimen using high speed camera. Results obtained from this study can be used in the base data of dome port cover design for an air breathing engine.

  • 본 논문에서는 시작엔진 제작에 앞서 CFD기법을 이용하여 디젤 엔진 흡기포트의 유동 특성을 분석하고자 하였다. 유동 해석 결과 높은 밸브리프트에서는 흡기포트 곡률 최적화로 인해 흡입 공기량이 극대화되었으며, 낮은 밸브리프트에서는 스월 Chamfer를 적용하여 스월유동이 강화된 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • In Gerotor pump, the pressure pulsations which occur due to the pump geometry result in vibration and noise of pump elements as well as cavitation in hydraulic system when the chambers of gerotor enter the delivery port and leave the suction port. Therefore it is important to study on the pressure pulsations before design and analysis of characteristics in Gerotor pump. In this paper, to reduce the unnecessary pressure pulsations, the port plate of Gerotor pump is designed based on the notch of the vane pumps and the relief grove of the piston pumps. The theoretical analysis of the pressure pulsations is performed in consideration of design parameters of the port plate which include each port positions and groove width and operating conditions which include rotational velocity and delivery pressure.

  • This study aims at the optimal design of rotors and the development of screw type Supercharger of CNG-fueled engine for commercial vehicle. Based on the new rotor profile, an advanced oil free type Supercharger has been developed, which can achieve higher adiabatic efficiency and lower manufacturing cost. The performance test of screw type Supercharger has achieved high volumetric efficiency and the durability on the bench of performance test has also been established in the compact body.

  • 내연기관의 성능은 실린더에서 연료의 화학에너지가 열에너지로 얼마만큼 빠르고 완전하게 변화하느냐에 좌우된다. 이를 위해서는 실린더 내에서 뜨거운 압축공기와 연료의 혼합 및 증기화가 요구된다. 엔진의 출력은 매 사이클당 흡입.압축할 수 있는 공기량에 좌우되므로 연소의 해석을 위해서는 실린더 내의 공기유동, 연료의 분무 및 연소과정을 이해 해야한다. 배기와 엔진효율의 요구성때문에 희박 혼합기 또는 EGR (exhaust gas recirculation)이 필요하게 된다. 그러나 희석이 크면 낮은 연소온도, 낮은 층류흐름속도와 화염전면의 낮은 난류강도 때문에 연소기간이 증대하게 된다. 실제로 희박의 증가는 실화 또는 긴 연소 지연기간, 사이클 마다의 연소맥동현상, HC배기의 증가등을 초래하게 된다. 이러한 저온연소의 단점들은 연소상태를 안정시키고 연소량을 증대시키는 공기의 유동을 이용해서 해결 될 수 있다. 최근에는 선회류와 난류의 강도를 증가시켜서 빠른연소(fast burning)를 이루고 있다. 선회류와 난류의 강도를 증대시키는 가장 중요한 2가지 방법은 흡입포트(port), 매니홀드(manifold)설계이다.

In-Cylinder Intake Flow Characteristics of Helical Port Engines with Wide Valve Angle (나선형 포트를 적용한 광각엔진에서 실린더 내 흡입 유동 특성)

  • This paper is the first of 2 companion papers which investigate in-cylinder swirl generation characteristics in helical port engine with wide valve angle. Two wide valve-angle engines, which are same ones and have slightly different rig swirl number, were used to compare the characteristics of cylinder-flow. One intake port is deactivated to induce swirl flow. A PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) was applied to measure in-cylinder velocity field during intake stroke. The results show that the intake flow component passing through valve area near the cylinder wall is not negligible in helical port engine with wide valve angle contrary to conventional one. The effect of this velocity component on in-cylinder increases as the swirl ratio rises and intake process progresses. Consequently, this component interferes the formation of in-cylinder swirl flow resulting in lower actual swirl.

  • The engine combustion is one of the most important processes affecting performance and emissions. One effective way to improve the engine combustion is to control the motion of the charge inside a cylinder by means of optimum induction system design, because the flame speed is mainly determined by the turbulence at compression(TDC) process in S.I. engine. It is believed that the tumble and swirl motion generated during intake stroke breaks down into small-scale turbulence in the compression stroke of the cycle. However, the exact nature of this relationship is not well known. This paper describes the tumble flow measurements inside the cylinder of a 4-valve S.I. engine using laser Doppler velocimetry(LDV) under motoring(non-firing) conditions. This is conducted on an optically assesed single cylinder research engine under motored conditions at an engine speed of 1000rpm. Three different cylinder head intake port configurations are studied to develop a better understanding the tumble flow generation, development, and breakdown mechanisms.

  • Combustion and emission characteristics in a direct injection diesel engine is closely related to the intake port system. It is therefore important to understand the swirl flow characteristics formed by a helical intake port. However there are still many uncertainties. The purpose of this experimental study is to investigate the effects of the valve eccentricity ratio and the inlet flow conditions of a helical intake port on the characteristics of an in-cylinder swirl flow. A steady state flow test rig consisted of ISM(impulse swirl meter), LFM(laminar flow meter) and cylinder head with a helical intake port was used. The swirl ratio(Rs) and mean flow coefficient(Cf(mean)) with inlet flow conditions were measured. The results of these experiment can be summarized as follows. Swirl flow characteristics of a helical intake port are affected by the inlet flow conditions, and especially they are much affected by the length of a manifold runner and the rotational angle of a curved manifold runner.
