Butane Working Capacity Evaluation of HC Adsorption Filter for Evaporative Gas to Satisfy PZEV Regulation (PZEV 대응 증발가스 흡착필터의 부탄 흡탈착 능력 평가)

  • The continued rise in the number of automobiles on the roads is prompting air pollution to emerge as a serious problem due to the harmful exhaust gas emissions throughout the world. Specifically, based on the exhaust gas regulation in North America represented by PZEV, the regulation on evaporative emission, which originates from the intake manifold system when the engine is stopped, is substantially being intensified. And the technology that can meet and satisfy these regulations has been needed. This study aimed to analyze and evaluate the butane working capacity (BWC) of HC adsorption filter according to the shape of it, which was developed to reduce evaporative emission, and the effect of HC adsorption filter on the engine performance. As a results, HC adsorption filter of the plate type, which was improved compared to that of the corrugated type and also became thinner, indicates higher absorption performance compared to the corrugated one. The absorption performance of the honeycomb type, derived from improving the shape of plate type, is 33.5% higher than that of the corrugated type. However, there was no significant difference in engine performance in all shapes.

Consideration on the Thickness of the Gas Introducing Tube of the Test Dome Specified in the ISO Standard (ISO 규격에서 규정한 표준용기 기체도입 도관의 직경에 대한 고찰)

  • The ISO standard specifies the diameter of the gas introducing tube to be definitely 1/10 of the chamber inner diameter of the standard test dome which is used for evaluating the performance of vacuum pumps. Because the inner diameter of the test chamber should not be less than the intake diameter of the vacuum pump, the tube diameter would be even 100 mm if fitting to a very large vacuum pump. Though such a thick tube can be accommodated in a large test dome, it is worthful to investigate whether a thicker tube is helpful or adverse for making more accurate measurements. In this paper it is discussed if there is an optimum tube diameter by comparing the isotropicity of particles emanating from the tube and that of particles entering the orifice.

크라이오 펌프 종합특성평가 시스템 기술개발

  • 고진공 펌프 국산화의 일환으로 터보분자 펌프와 크라이오 펌프 개발이 진행 중이다. 크라이오 펌프 개발은 기계연구원, 우성진공(주), 국민대학교가 연합해서 수행하고 있다. 올해 9월말에 끝나는 1단계 마지막 3차 년도에는 두 고진공 펌프 모두 시제품을 완성하고 성능을 입증해야 한다. 이를 위해 고진공 펌프 개발과 별도로 진공 펌프 종합특성평가 시스템 개발도 표준과학연구원 주도로 진행되고 있는데 크라이오 펌프 평가 시스템은 원자력연구원이 담당하고 있다. 완성된 크라이오 펌프 성능평가 장치는 상온 기준 5${\times}$10-11 mbar의 기저압력을 보이고 있어서 초고진공 영역에서 크라이오 펌프 운전성능을 평가할 수 있는 준비를 마쳤다. 현재 크라이오 펌프 냉동기는 전반적으로 목표 설계치에 근접한 냉각성능을 나타내고 있는데 예를 들면 2차 냉각단 냉각능력이 10 K, 10 W로 대형 크라이오 펌프를 제작하기에도 충분하다. 활성탄 어레이도 여러 모델들을 자작하여 배기성능을 시험해 보았으므로, 최종적으로 3,600 L/s 급에 적합한 어레이를 만들고 이를 개발된 냉동기에 얹고 열차폐와 몸통을 씌워 펌프로서의 운전성능을 평가하는 일이 남아있다. 시제품은 상용품과 달리 기기가 차지하는 공간이 크고 부대설비가 복잡해서 운전성능 평가 장치에 부착해서 실험하기 어려울 수도 있으므로 기계연구원 현장에서 진공 게이지와 기체도입구만 부착한 마구리 플랜지를 펌프 흡기구 위에 달고 간이로 배기속도를 측정하는 것도 고려하고 있다. 이 경우는 표준용기를 사용할 때보다 배기속도가 과대평가되므로 이를 보정해 주는 방안을 마련해 놓아야 한다.

  • In order to analyse the scavenging efficiency in a poppet valve type 2-stroke engine. visualization of scavenging flow and quantitative experiments for measuring scavenging efficiency were performed. The effect of shroud angle in RSSV which was developed by KIMM was evaluated under steady flow rig applying single-cycle method. Also dynamic simulator was used by using gas sampling with $CO_2$ and $O_2$gas. The $90^circ$ shroud RSSV was found to be the highest efficient system, and single-cycle and dynamic simulator test are very effective to save time and cost for the development of a 2-stroke engine.

  • Unsteady flows in a semi-induction system was investigated to verify their characteristics. A semi-induction system was designed and made to verify the Sow characteristics in an intake system. To attain an intact wave of an intake pulse, a single semi-intake system was adopted as a test rig. The system consists of an intake pipe and a rotary valve as a pulse generator, and a variable volume Helmholtz resonator. The variable volume Helmholtz resonator was mounted in the intake pipe to enhance a breathing capacity and engine performance. The phase and amplitude of the pulsating flow in an unsteady flow system were found to affect the charging capacity significantly. The behavior of pressure wave, their phase and amplitude were investigated in various regions. Some of the results obtained from experiments were described.

  • Engine noise is one of the major causes of the interior noise, and so has been studied in various ways in recent days. Recently Intake noise has been extensively studied to reduce the engine noise. Conventional method to reduce the noise is adding several resonators to the induction system. However this causes a reduction of engine output power and an increase of fuel consumption. In this study, the prototype of Active Intake Noise Control System is developed by using the Filtered-x LMS algorithm to reduce the Intake noise during acceleration. Intake noise is more excessively increased when the engine is rapidly accelerated. So, Normalized LMS algorithm is applied to improve the control performance under the rapid acceleration.

  • The effects of a WI(Water Injection) at the intake Pipe and an urea injection at the exhaust pipe for a 4-cylinder DI(Direct Injection) diesel engine were investigated experimentally The water quantity was controlled by temperature of intake manifold and MAF(Manifold Air Flow). In addition, the urea quantify was controlled by NOx quantify and MAF. Effects of WI system, urea-SCR system and tandem system were investigated for with and without EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation). As the results. the SUF(Stoichiometric Urea Flow) and NOx map were obtained. In addition, NOx results can be visualized with engine speed and engine load. It was concluded. therefore, that the NOx reduction effects of the tandem system without the EGR were more than those with the EGR base engine.

  • In the study, it is considered sporty car as 1400cc entry cars using sound generator. These cars are required special sound quality, also sporty sound quality. The operational principle of this sound generator system is that on the operation of the engine intake valves caused pulsating is to shake the membrane of the sound generator on the inside of the driver front dash panel through the intake manifold, which will deliver the required sound quality and tone. For the component constructed sound generator, main design parameters are selected and optimized using the daguchi's method. The results are as follows; The C2 sound level must be minimized and C4 level must be maximized. And also overall level keeps linear characteristics.

  • K-water에서는 대청댐 하류의 용수를 취수하여 대청광역 계통에 1일 98만㎥을 공급할수 있는 현도취수장을 운영하고 있다. 취수장에는 고압전동기 10대가 운영되고 있으며, 장시간 연속운전 및 하절기 주위온도 상승 등으로 권선온도가 상승되어 설비의 안전성 문제가 제기되어 왔다. 취수펌프동 실내온도 및 고압전동기 권선온도 저감을 위해 펌프동 배기시스템 운영시간 변경 및 고압전동기 냉각 흡기덕트 설치 등의 개선 노력으로 권선온도 저감은 물론 에너지절감 및 기기의 수명연장 등 설비 운영의 안전성을 확보한 연구결과이다.

  • This study was carried out to reduce NOx emissions from diesel engine and to investigate the variation of engine performance using the water injection. In this study the water was extracted from the exhaust gas and injected directly into the intake port with the inlet charge. The water condensing system operated as a closed system without any supplementary water supply. The experimental parameters such as the revolution the torque and the water injection rate are varied and the result from this experiment found the significant NOx reduction whereas the smoke emission increases as water/air ratio increases as the cases like the EGR. In spite of increasing the quantity of the water injection the engine output was slightly decreased and the specific fuel consumption was increased as was anticipated. Especially the system was founded to be effective on the reduction of the NOx emissions at the high load region relatively.
