Hangul Component Decomposition in Outline Fonts (한글 외곽선 폰트의 자소 분할)

  • This paper proposes a method for decomposing a Hangul glyph of outline fonts into its initial, medial and final components using statistical-structural information. In a font family, the positions of components are statistically consistent and the stroke relationships of a Hangul character reflect its structure. First, we create the component histograms that accumulate the shapes and positions of the same components. Second, we make pixel clusters from character image based on pixel direction probabilities and extract the candidate strokes using position, direction, size of clusters and adjacencies between clusters. Finally, we find the best structural match between candidate strokes and predefined character model by relaxation labeling. The proposed method in this paper can be used for a study on formative characteristics of Hangul font, and for a font classification/retrieval system.

  • 본 논문은 필기한자 인식의 성능 향상을 위한 개선된 윤곽선 방향 특징 추출에 대한 연구이다. 제안한 특징 추출은 기존의 방법에서 나타나는 계단현상을 완화함으로써 한자의 기본 요소인 획의 방향을 표현하는 통계적 성질을 두드러지게 하였다. 한국학 고문헌 상에 나타나는 필기 한자들을 대상으로 한 실험에서, 제안한 특징의 변별력이 뛰어나고, 오인식률이 감소하였음을 보였다.

  • In the previous report, it was described that the butanol fraction of the root bark extract of Aralia elata had potent antigastritic and antiulcerative effects in rats, In this pharmacological profile, the fraction revealed low acute toxicities in mice and rats, no central nervous system activities, moderate analgesic action, weak inhibitory action in carrageenin edema of rats and no direct effects on isolated smooth muscles of rats and guinea-pigs. Slight lowering of blood pressure as given i.v. in rabbit was observed.

  • The methanol extract of the leaves of Cudrania tricuspidata and ethyl acetate fraction from the methanol extract showed inhibition for trypsin activity and the growth inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus. The content of kaempferol 7-O-$\beta$-D-glucopyranoside isolated from this plant was determined by HPLC and it was about 0.31% for the methanol extract.

On-line Character Recognition from MPEG Stream Data (MPEG Stream Data에서의 온라인 문자인식)

  • 본 논문에서는 Web 기반의 원격 교육 환경에서 강사와 학습자 모두에게 도움을 줄 수 있는 판서장면 MPEG Stream Data에서의 온라인 문자 인식 방법에 대하여 연구하였다. 강사가 별도의 프리젠테이션 자료를 만들 필요 없이 직접 판서한 MPEG Stream Data로부터 초당 3 Frame을 Sampling 한 후, 각 Frame에 Laplacian 마스크를 이용한 윤곽선 검출, Frame간 빼기 그리고 세선화 등의 영상처리 기법을 적용하여 문자인식에 필요한 좌표 값과 방향코드 등의 특징을 추출하였다. 좌표 값은 세선화 된 획의 중간 Pixel의 좌표 값이며, 구해진 좌표 값들을 이용하여 8방향 코드와 가상 획 코드를 구한 다음, 이 특징들을 사용해 은닉 마르코프 모델(Hidden Markov Model)을 학습시키고 한글 문자 인식을 행하였다.

  • Antibacterial activity test of solvent fractions, sesquiterpenoid lactones, and Compound I and II extracted from Chrysanthemum boreale M. and Chrysanthemum indium L. were performed against four microorganisms. Among the tested substances, antibacterial activities were appeared against B. subtilis and V. parahaemolyticus at the chloroform fraction, sesquiterpenoid lactones and Compound I extracted from C. boreale. But chloroform fraction and sesquiterpenoid lactones extracted from C. indicum were showed weakly than those of C. boreale. Compound II and all fractions extracted from C. indicum were not appeared against the all tested microorganisms.

  • There are many difficulties to develop a mobile contents due to many constraints on mobile environments. It is difficult to make a good mobile contents with only visual reduction of existing contents on wire Internet. Therefore, it is essential to devise the data representation and to develop the authoring tool to meet the needs of the mobile contents market. We suggest the compact mobile contents to learn Chinese characters and developed its authoring tool. The animation which our system produces is realistic as if someone writes letters with pen or brush. Moreover, our authoring tool makes a user generate a Chinese character animation easily and rapidly although she or he has not many knowledge in computer graphics, mobile programming or Chinese characters. The method to generate the stroke animation is following: We take basic character shape information represented with several contours from TTF(TrueType Font) and get the information for the stroke segmentation and stroke ordering from simple user input. And then, we decompose whole character shape into some strokes by using polygonal approximation technique. Next, the stroke animation for each stroke is automatically generated by the scan line algorithm ordered by the stroke direction. Finally, the ordered scan lines are compressed into some integers by reducing coordinate redundancy As a result, the stroke animation of our system is even smaller than GIF animation. Our method can be extended to rendering and animation of Hangul or general 2D shape based on vector graphics. We have the plan to find the method to automate the stroke segmentation and ordering without user input.

A Stroke-Based Text Extraction Algorithm for Digital Videos (디지털 비디오를 위한 획기반 자막 추출 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, the stroke-based text extraction algorithm for digital video is proposed. The proposed algorithm consists of four stages such as text detection, text localization, text segmentation and geometric verification. The text detection stage ascertains that a given frame in a video sequence contains text. This procedure is accomplished by morphological operations for the pixels with higher possibility of being stroke-based text, which is called as seed points. For the text localization stage, morphological operations for the edges including seed points ate adopted followed by horizontal and vortical projections. Text segmentation stage is to classify projected areas into text and background regions according to their intensity distribution. Finally, in the geometric verification stage, the segmented area are verified by using prior knowledge of video text characteristics.

  • This study pre-processed the characters, performed the feature extraction for the beauty evaluation, and then defined the similarity function. It suggested the definition of the similarity function, and the extraction of the features of character elements. it experimented how much the various input character patterns were similar with the standard character patterns, found their results were almost similar with the expected ones and the results of beauty evaluation on general people through the questionaire with the results of the methods suggested here.

  • 본 논문에서는 통계적인 특징 추출 방법을 사용하여 샘물체로 필기된 한글을 고속으로 인식하는 방법을 소개한다. 대부분이 직선 성분으로 이루어진 한글의 특성을 이응하기 위하여 입력 영상으로부터 수평, 수직, 사선, 역사선의 방향 성분을 추출하며, 검은 화소의 밀도에 따라 동적으로 그물을 결정함으로써 획 간의 접촉 변형에 무관한 특징 벡터를 추출한다. 이와 같은 통계적 특징 추출 방법은 크기 정규화나 세선화 과정이 필요없으며, 또한 샘물체라는 필기 형태의 제약에 의해 정합 대상 부류의 수가 현저히 줄어들기 때문에 인식에 소요되는 시간을 상당히 줄일 수 있음은 물론, 인식률을 향상시켰다. 제안된 방법의 타당성을 검증하기 위하여 샘물체로 필기된 KS 완성형 한글 2,350자에 대해 실험한 결과, 평균 90% 이상의 인식률을 보이며, IBM PC 486(33MHz)상에서 문자당 평균 0.17초의 인식 속도를 보임으로써, 실용적인 고속 OCR 시스템의 개발 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.
