Scutellaria radix (SR) has been utilized as a traditional medicine for a variety of diseases including Rheumatoid arthritis and its major flavonoids - baicalein, baicalin, and wogonin - have been reported to exert beneficial health effects, including anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, and free-radical scavenging. However, the mechanisms underlying this effect remain poorly understood. The principal objective of this study was to determine the effect of SR on osteoblast and osteoclast cells. SR extract was prepared using 70% ethanol solvent. Osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells and osteoclast precursor Raw 264.7 macrophage cells were utilized. SR extract increased MC3T3-E1 cell proliferation and stimulated alkaline phosphatase activity dose-dependently, 152.0% of the control at concentration $1{\mu}g/mL$. Additionally, SR extract ($1{\mu}g/mL$) stimulated Bone nodule formation activity in MC3T3-E1 cells, approximately 223.3% of the control, 20 days after the exposure. In addition, SR extract significantly reduced the number of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-positive (TRAP+) multinucleated cells from Raw 264.7 cells. In conclusion, SR extract stimulates the proliferation and bioactivities of boneforming osteoblasts, and inhibits the activities of bone-resorbing osteoclasts to a certain degree.

The purpose of this study is to consider practical examples of the method of utilizing plant material 'lotus' used by the ancients, and the value and meaning they wanted to get from it. The method of this study to do this is descriptive study to consider and interpret poem and painting reflecting impression and concept world of lotus. Summary of this study is as follows. First, ornamental value of lotus could be divided in effect of group plant and detail value held by the flower, the leaves and the stem. Especially, group plant lotus in large site provides unique landscape differentiated form other flowering plants. As well, another feature of lotus is its high ornamental value spread in detail elements including the flower, the leaves, the stem and the lotus seed. Second, fragrance expressed 'Hyang-won-ik-cheong(香遠益淸)' is an important charm of lotus. Lotus was utilized as olfactory element providing fragrance. The ancients considered lotus fragrance not only for enjoy but as symbolic object comparing noble man's dignity so that they expressed it in poem and painting. Third, lotus was utilized as acoustical element. That is, the sound of raindrops harmonizing the surface of water and wide lotus leaves was called 'hearing lotus fond and rain', enjoying it as classic grace. Fourth, summer play lotus sightseeing was called mind wash up meaning 'washing the mind polluted by the mundane world'. Such poetic taste was widely enjoyed by various classes from general public to royal family. Besides, poetic taste related with lotus is the method of drinking alcohol using the feature of big lotus leave and vacant stem, called 'Beog-tong-ju(碧筒酒)'. And in the Joseon dynasty period, when the distinction between the man and the woman influenced by Confucian, lotus seed and 'lotus collecting song' was important sign to express romance between man and woman. Lotus has been enamored by wide classes transcending cultural background as thought and religion since ancient times. Due to such reasons, various symbolic meaning of lotus and planting examples related to religious facilities as temples could not be considered in various manner is limitation of this study, and which is research project for the future.
This study examined the structure that can explain the 'gewuzhizhi' as a medical research methodology and how to acquire knowledge from this structure. First, we derive a structure that implies the meaning of 'gewuzhizhi' shown in "Liji" and "daixue" in relation to "xueji" and "shaoyi". It is Xue- gewuzhizhi -'You(游)'. Then, we examined the purpose of the travelling Mt. Hua of Wang Lu, who was a landscape painter and medical researcher and physician and the implication of 'You' in Song Dynasty's painting theory of "Tuhua Jianwenzhi", "Linquan Gaozhi". In the course of the review, I explained the following. First, 'You' in the travelling Mt. Hua of Wang Lu and 'You' in the painting theories of Song Dynasty belongs to the structure of Xue- gewuzhizhi-'You'. Secondly, the meaning of 'gewuzhizhi' in the structure of Xue-gewuzhizhi-'You' was deepened in Song Dynasty. Third, The way in which the 'You' of the Song Dynasty's painting theory is to learn the reason of things is to observe things. Fourthly, the structure of the Xue-gewuzhizhi-'You' was practiced in the painting area in the Song Dynasty, and the field of practice was extended to the study of medicine by the landscape researcher who followed the painting theory of Song Dynasty. Fifth, through the assertion of Wang Lu's 'I take Mt. Hua as my teacher[師]', Wang Lu finds that the source of the recognition lies in nature(Mt. Hua). Through the above, 'gewuzhizhi' shown in "Liji" and "dai xue" is involved in the theory of cultivation and epistemology, and the structure of xue-gewuzhizhi- 'You' involved in epistemology and the method of recognition is found in observation. Through these investigations, I understood logically 'gewuzhizhi' as a method of medical research.

Bisphosphonates inhibit bone resorption in vivo and in vitro. Currently proposed mechanism of action of bisphosphonates involves both direct effect on osteoclasts and indirect effect through the mediation of osteoblasts. Recent understanding of molecular mechanism of osteoclastogenesis indicates that osteoclast differentiation is quite tightly regulated by signaling molecules from differentiating osteoblasts. Therefore this investigation was designed to elucidate the effect of bisphosphonate on osteoblast differentation. For this purpose, in vitro effects of etidronate and alendronate on the expression of Cbfa1 a master control gene of osteoblast differentiation, several bone marker genes, and formation of calcified nodules were evaluated. To evaluate the effect of bisphosphonate on calcified nodule formation, osteoblasts isolated from rat calvaria were cultured in a-MEM containing $10^{-4},\;10^{-5},\;10^{-6}M$ of etidronate or $10^{-6},\;10^{-7},\;10^{-8}M$ of alendronate for 15 days, and then stained by alizarin red to determine mineralization. To evaluate the effect of bisphosphonate on osteoblast differentiation, osteoblast cells were cultured in a-MEM containing $10^{-4},\;10^{-5},\;10^{-6}M$ of etidronate or $10^{-6}$ M of alendronate for 8 days. And then total RNA was extracted and northern blot analysis was done to examine the expression of Cbfa1, type I collagen, alkaline phosphatase, osteopontin and osteocalcin. The results were as follows: 1. Etidronate suppressed the calcification of bone nodule in dose dependent manner, while alendronate didn't. 2. The expression of Cbfa1 was decreased dose dependently by etidronate, but increased by alendronate. 3. Etidronate suppressed the expression of type I collagen, osteopontin and osteocalcin in dose dependent manner however alendronate promote the expression of osteoblast marker gene. 4. The expression of alkaline phosphatase was not affected either etidronate nor alendronate. These results suggest that etidronate suppressed the expression of Cbfa1 in dose dependent manner, and consequently the expression of osteoblast marker genes, such as type I collagen, osteopontin and osteocalcin were also suppressed in similar manner. And finally this decreased expression of osteoblastic marker gene prevent calcined bone nodule formation.

In landscape architecture, the pursuit of pluralism requires diverse expression based on cultural and philosophical differences. Landscape architects impart social purposes and spatial relationships to the contemporary generation by providing particular environments that reflect the culture of the day. Particularly, landscape architects reflect contemporary art in their design works and express the characteristics of the arts of the day in real spaces. Historically they have sought motives from all fields of art. The plastic concept in landscape design is based specifically on paintings that directly influence spatial composition. Minimalism in landscape architecture contributes to the formation of artistic characteristics that can be explained to improve artistry in landscapes as aesthetic objects, which were eliminated in the modernist era, and to realize contemporary art. By interpretively studying design works, therefore, this study reveals plastic concepts' influence on landscape design affected by minimalist art. The characteristics of plastic concepts in minimalist landscape design can be summarized as follows. First, the reduction of Minimalist Landscape is meant for viewers to immediately understand a work's identity and to easily perceive its intention by using design language implied by the pure geometric forms such as circles, triangles and squares. Second, the extension intends to seek internal order by connecting design elements mutually and externally to provide visual direction by adopting linear expression. Third, the flatness that defines meaningless space tends to overlay additional elements on a flattened site to induce the perception of a sequence of landscapes and to patternize pavement to improve its visual image. Finally, seriality has two characteristics: to make centrality in space and to compose by repeating formative elements and materials based on the pursuit of a site's totality, rather than an individual space's originality.

This study aims to analyze modern hairstyle and fashion in the collections in the late 1990s, based on the concepts and characteristics of Minimalism, a buzzword of the art field in the 1960s. This study used qualitative research method, in other words, presenting an analysis framework by studying domestic and foreign books and dissertations on Minimalism and then applying the Internet or visual image to the analysis framework. The result indicates that Minimalism design in modem hairstyle and fashion has four characteristics: simplicity, unity, repetition and spatiality.
Antique maps are a cultural heritage of recorded information with distinguished pictorial and scientific value. They have been utilized in a variety of academic fields, especially in historical geography, as the most fundamental data to look into the restoration of space or historic changes of area from the past. However, there is no sufficient study on the development of contents using antique maps in the exhibitions. Furthermore, there is almost no content research on the antique maps integrating the academic programs in museums or art galleries. In particular, it is very difficult to find research on the approaches to configure or utilize the exhibition contents related to the Sea of Korea using European antique maps. This study examined the construction of educational contents in order to use the European antique maps including the Sea of Korea as well as Korea itself in the exhibitions. The results of this study may visualize the results of academic research on the territory and territorial waters of Korea and extensively acknowledge them as scientific data all over the world. Furthermore, this study aimed to create the opportunity to increase interest in the Sea of Korea and recognize it again, to find the contents construction to use European antique maps as academic data for exhibition and education in museums or cultural facilities and to provide a basic model for history education using antique maps.
Study about existence of illusion which human beings feel from imitated image based reality have been continuing by copy theory and conventionalism for a long time. Traditional copy theory which had controlled representation theory from plato have explained illusion by similarity of image and representation objects. According to copy theory, image is natural sign unlike language but the late in the 20th century, conventionalism from N, Goodman insists they are not any special similarity between image and representation objects. They insist image and conventional sign just as language. These opposit theory rearranged conventionalism by the entrance on the cognitive science. The copy theory couldn't explain the problem of representational gap between reality and duplication, but photo media makes new paradigm about theory of the illusion. The problem of representational gap was disappeared by CGI images on the base of digital media. We are exposed exquisite duplication for a example, movie, advertisement, printings. Sometimes duplications are more real than the original works. Digital is a non-material object by 0 and 1. Specially real lighting skill and mechanism are copied perfectly by photon mapping skills and the duplications are produced more real than the original works. By disappearance of representational gap, we need new theory model for explaining of digital illusion and copy theory can be the key.
We evaluated mineralogical, physical property and accelerated weather resistance of cinnabar, realgar and orpiment used as cultural heritages and traditional paintings. JB and JS are sample names of cinnabar and JH and UH are sample names of orpiment and Realgar, respectively. As a result of mineralogical property evaluation, Jinsa was identified cinnabar (HgS) and there was no difference in chemical composition according to the grade. UH and JH were confirmed realgar (AsS) and orpiment (As2S3), respectively. The polarization characteristics such as shape and color indicate that pigments using our test were natural mineral pigment observed by polarization microscope. Especially, in the case of cinnabar, it is not easy to distinguish between natural mineral pigment and synthetic pigment. But the results of polarization microscope said that cinnabar is natural occurring mineral which have authentic mineral particle and unevenly fracture. As a result of thermal analysis, JH has a higher glass transition temperature and heat stability than UH. After accelerated weather test, cinnabar, realgar and orpiment were striking result in color change because of light degradation. Red color of cinnabar turn into black and the color of realgar and orpiment became brighter than before. JB (meta-cinnabar) is more photosensitivity and faster becoming dark than JB (cinnabar). Finally light transforms realgar (red, As4S4) in arsenolite (As2O3).

This work discusses the major roles of digital technologies in the history of landscape architectural drawing, and offers a critique of the dominant trend towards realism in recent digital landscape representations. During the period of transition from conventional drawing tools, computer technologies generally functioned as mechanical tools to imitate prior manual techniques. Specifically, the GIS was served as a mechanical tool to efficiently process the manual layer cake; CAD software generally functioned to translate physical models to two-dimensional construction documents while graphic software generally functioned as a tool to perform processes similar to those of manual collage and montage techniques. Recent digital landscape drawings tend to adopt a realistic depiction like the painting of landscape appearance. In the representations, discernible traces of cutting and assembling are removed via graphic software; thus, the complete representations are perceived as if they were a copy of an actual landscape. The realistic images are an easy way to communicate with the public. However, it is difficult to achieve a full embodiment of all of the multisensory characteristics of a landscape through these visuals. They often deceive viewers by visualizing idealized conditions of not-yet-actualized landscapes and production of the final images takes up a large portion of the overall design process. Alternatively, 3D digital modeling of landscape performance and creative uses of digital technologies during the overall design process, as well as hybridized techniques with different drawing techniques and technologies, provide the opportunity to explore various aspects of a landscape.
