Development of Empirical Formulas for Storage Function Method (저류함수법의 매개변수 산정식 개발)

  • Storage function method which considers the non-linearity of the relationship between rainfall and runoff has been frequently used to predict runoff in a basin and a flood pattern. However, it is time-consuming to estimate appropriate parameters of every basin and rainfall event, which requires the empirical parameter equation applicable in Korea. In this study, multiple regression analysis is used to develop empirical equations to estimate parameters of Storage Function method using basin characteristics. The basin area, maximum stream length, and stream slope are considered as the basin characteristics as the result of the regression analysis. Collinearity is removed and trial-and-error method is used to choose the most descriptive parameters to the dependent variables in Han River basin which is divided into 30 subbasins. The developed equations are validated using the rainfall events in MunMak gauging station and named as 'Han River equation'. The equation could provide the useful information about Storage Function method parameter to calculate runoff from a basin and predict river stage.

  • 두 개의 변수의 대체효과(substitution effect)를 연구하기 위하여 수요 또는 공급의 모형을 만들었을 경우 이에 관련된 변수들의 이름이 중요시 된다. 실제 관측 자료를 사용하였을 경우 흔히 일어나는 다공선성(multicollinearity) 문제를 다루기 위한 대안으로써 선형회귀선을 예로 들어 능형회귀기법(ridge regression technique)과 요인분석기법(factor analytic technique)을 소개하였으며 이에서 얻어지는 계수(coefficient)를 OLS 추정치로 설명하기 위하여 원래의 자료를 변환하였다. 실지 수요와 공급의 모형이 비선형일 경우 일반적으로 능형회귀나 요인분석을 쓰지 못한다는 점을 감안, 이러한 방법을 자료의 변환방법으로 설명함으로써 비선형모형에서도 다공선성문제를 위하여 능형회귀분석법이나 요인분석기법을 사용할 수 있도록 하였다.

The Calculation and Measurement of Flash Point for Water+1-Propanol and Water+2-Propanol Using Closed Cup Aparatus (밀폐식 장치를 사용한 Water+1-Propanol 과 Water+2-Propanol의 인화점 측정과 계산)

  • Flash point is the one of the important properties for the safe handling of inflammable liquid solution. In this paper, flash points of binary liquid solutions, water+1-propanol and water+2-propanol, were been measured by using Seta flash closed cup aparatus. Flash point was estimated using regression analysis method. Flash points were also estimated by the method based on Raoul's law and the method optimizing the binary parameters of van Laar equation. Experimental results were compared with the calculated results. The regression analysis method is able to estimate the flash point fairly well for water+1-propanol and water+2-propanol mixture.

  • The multivariate statistical analysis, using the multiple linear regression(MLR), have been applied to analyze and predict the flash points of binary systems. Prediction for the flash points of flammable substances is important for the examination of the fire and explosion hazards in the chemical process design. In this paper, the flash points are predicted by MLR based on the physical properties of pure substances and the experimental flash points data. The results of regression and prediction by MLR are compared with the values calculated by Raoult's law and Van Laar equation.

  • It is not easy to predict the shrinkage rate of a plastic injection mold in its design process. The shrinkage rate should be considered as one of the important performances to produce the reliable products. The shrinkage rate can be determined by using the CAE tools in the design produces. However, since the analysis can take minutes to hours, the high computational costs of performing the analysis limit their use in design optimization. Therefore this study was carried out to presume for mutual relation of analysis condition to get the optimum average shrinkage by regression analysis. The results shown that coefficient of determination of regression equation has a fine reliability over 87% and regression equation of average shrinkage is made by regression analysis.

  • 본 논문은 회귀분석에서 오차항의 1차 자기상관 존재 여부 및 그 값을 검정하는 방법을 베이지안 접근법으로 제안하였다. 이 방법은 모수공간의 다중분할로 인해 얻어진 여러 가설들에 대한 다중결정문제를 다중 베이즈요인에 관한 이론과 일반화 Savage-Dickey 밀도비를 이용한 사후확률 추정법을 합성하여 개발되었다. 이 방법은 기존의 검정법들에서 가능한 검정 뿐 아니라 이들이 해결할 수 없는 자기상관에 대한 다중결정문제에도 사용이 가능한데 그 효용성이 있다. 모의실험을 통하여 제안된 검정법의 유효성을 평가하였다.

  • Linear regressions and evolutionary nonlinear regression based compensation techniques for the short-range prediction of wind speed are investigated. Development of an efficient MOS(Model Output Statistics) is necessary to correct systematic errors of the model, but a linear regression based MOS is hard to manage an irregular nature of weather prediction. In order to solve the problem, a nonlinear and symbolic regression method using GP(Genetic Programming) is suggested for a development of MOS for wind speed prediction. The proposed method is compared to various linear regression methods for prediction of wind speed. Also, statistical analysis of distribution for UM elements for each method is executed. experiments are performed for KLAPS(Korea Local Analysis and Prediction System) re-analysis data from 2007 to 2013 year for Jeju Island and Busan area in South Korea.

Calculation Of Critical Stress On Jointed Concrete Pavement By Using Neural Networks & Linear Regression Models (뉴럴 네트워크 및 선형 회귀식을 이용한 줄눈 콘크리트 포장의 한계 응력 계산)

  • The finite element method(FEM) was one of tools used to solve problem of previous Concrete Pavement and was applied to Korea Pavement Research Program Study. This study used the ABAQUS and the fortran analysis program to calculate the critical stress on jointed concrete pavement and compared and analyzed the results by using neural networks and linear regression model. In that case, which are not enough analysises by using FEM programs though many input variables, when the results of FEM with NN and linear regression models are compared, there are some differences. The other cases, which are reduced input variables and a lot of analysises each of them, results of Neural Networks(NN) and linear regression models are simulated to them of FEM. But, the result of NN is more exact than them of linear regression at the (0,0), (1,1). On the results of this study, it is suggested that the calculation of stress using NN is more compatible to Korea Pavement Research Program Study.

Variable selection with quantile regression tree (분위수 회귀나무를 이용한 변수선택 방법 연구)

  • The quantile regression method proposed by Koenker et al. (1978) focuses on conditional quantiles given by independent variables, and analyzes the relationship between response variable and independent variables at the given quantile. Considering the linear programming used for the estimation of quantile regression coefficients, the model fitting job might be difficult when large data are introduced for analysis. Therefore, dimension reduction (or variable selection) could be a good solution for the quantile regression of large data sets. Regression tree methods are applied to a variable selection for quantile regression in this paper. Real data of Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) players are analyzed following the variable selection approach based on the regression tree. Analysis result shows that a few important variables are selected, which are also meaningful for the given quantiles of salary data of the baseball players.

Identification of Uncertainty in Fitting Rating Curve with Bayesian Regression (베이지안 회귀분석을 이용한 수위-유량 관계곡선의 불확실성 분석)

  • This study employs Bayesian regression analysis for fitting discharge rating curves. The parameter estimates using the Bayesian regression analysis were compared to ordinary least square method using the t-distribution. In these comparisons, the mean values from the t-distribution and the Bayesian regression are not significantly different. However, the difference between upper and lower limits are remarkably reduced with the Bayesian regression. Therefore, from the point of view of uncertainty analysis, the Bayesian regression is more attractive than the conventional method based on a t-distribution because the data size at the site of interest is typically insufficient to estimate the parameters in rating curve. The merits and demerits of the two types of estimation methods are analyzed through the statistical simulation considering heteroscedasticity. The validation of the Bayesian regression is also performed using real stage-discharge data which were observed at 5 gauges on the Anyangcheon basin. Because the true parameters at 5 gauges are unknown, the quantitative accuracy of the Bayesian regression can not be assessed. However, it can be suggested that the uncertainty in rating curves at 5 gauges be reduced by Bayesian regression.
