  • Side effects of drugs mean harmful and unintended effects resulting from drugs used to prevent, diagnose, or treat diseases. These side effects can lead to patients' death and are the main causes of drug developmental failures. Thus, various methods have been tried to identify side effects. These can be divided into biological and systems biology approaches. In this study, we use systems biology approach and focus on using various phenotypic information in addition to the chemical structure and target proteins. First, we collect datasets that are used in this study, and calculate similarities individually. Second, we generate a set of features using the similarities for each drug-side effect pair. Finally, we confirm the results by AUC(Area Under the ROC Curve), and showed the significance of this study through a comparison experiment.

  • Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare congenital anomalies characterized by direct communication between arteries and veins that bypass the capillary bed. AVMs may not manifest clinically until late infancy or childhood. In particular, facial AVMs can cause urgent life-threatening dental events. A 5-year-old girl without a medical history visited the hospital because of spontaneous gingival bleeding around the posterior gingival area of the lower left 2nd primary molar. Angiography through the femoral approach under general anesthesia was performed for differential diagnosis and therapeutic option. The blood flow was effectively reduced after arterial embolization alone, and there was no evidence of recurrence at the 5-month follow-up. The present study reports that embolization of the affected vessels can be a more effective and safe method than surgical resection for the treatment of AVM during the growth period.

  • Diabetes is chronic disease that is rapidly increasing in prevalence around the world, and mortality from complications continues to rise. This has made blood glucose management a critical challenge for modern society. The main methods used to manage blood glucose are diet, exercise, and medication. Among these, diet is one of the fundamental foundations of blood glucose management, avoiding foods that cause high blood glucose and minimizing blood glucose fluctuations, and is more accessible to people with diabetes as well as the general population. Currently, several platforms, both domestic and international, offer meal planning services, but this is mainly done by users or professional coaches. Accordingly, this paper implements an accurate Kcal calculation model based on DNN and presents a series of dietary algorithms for blood glucose management based on this.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate effective intervention(Intrinsic foot muscle training and navicular mobilization) methods for flexible flat foot. 32 subjects were divided into two groups: intrinsic foot muscle training(IFMT) and navicular mobilization(NM). In both groups significant difference in navicular drop pre and post test(p<.01), significant difference between n the two groups (p<.01, 95% CI: .768-4.607). In both groups significant difference in Foot pressure distribution pre and post test(p<.01), significant difference between the two groups (p<.01, 95% CI: 3.404-14.90). The results of this study showed that the IFMT was more effective than that of the flexible flat foot. It would be possible to provide more effective interventions for patients with flat feet and also to prevent secondary musculoskeletal disorders due to flat feet.

  • Recent estimates for colon cancer incidence in Korea have been increased and continue to rank as the second most common in male and the third in female. Although colonoscopy has been known as the best screening tool for colon cancer, 20-25% of patients with colon cancer was diagnosed with stage IV cancer. During the past 10 years, intensive clinical studies helped to establish the value of palliative treatment for colon cancer with metastasis. The introduction of new chemotherapeutic agents such as irinotecan and oxaliplatin has led to a significant increase in tumor response and median survival. In advanced colon cancer, impressive prolongation or overall survival can be achieved through sequential application of combined systemic chemotherapy. In addition, targeted manipulation of molecular tumor mechanisms with new substances such as monoclonal antibodies against the epidermal growth factor receptor or vascular endothelial growth factor shows promising effects. Progress in the systemic treatment of colon cancer is evident, not only because of the significant increase in life expectancy in advanced colon cancer.

  • The aesthetic appearance of the incisors is essential for a natural and healthy smile, and it is also an important factor for confidence in interpersonal relationships. If there is crowding or protrusion of the anterior teeth, root canal treatment and excessive tooth removal are often required to resolve it in a short period of time. However, it is difficult to achieve sustainable aesthetic results. In this case, orthodontic treatment will be necessary to preserve the remaining tooth structure as much as possible. Middle-aged and elderly patients are often aware of the need for orthodontic treatment, but they are hesitant to use the traditional orthodontic treatment method using brackets because of the social gaze. In this case, clear aligners can be a good option. So, in this article, a case in which aesthetic needs were resolved with clear aligners alone and another case in which satisfactory results were obtained through restorative treatment following clear aligners application are reported.

  • Atherectomy has become a promising treatment option for peripheral artery disease caused by diabetes mellitus or end-stage renal disease. Atherectomy refers to the removal of atheromatous tissue by mechanical method, resulting in an enlarged lumen of the treated blood vessel. Based on this method, the term is limited to the percutaneous minimally invasive approach, and there are currently two types of atherectomy devices available in Korea. The increased prevalence of atherectomy has led to the concept of "vascular preparation" and a new treatment concept of "leave nothing behind." Various studies have proven the safety and effectiveness of atherectomy; however, there are some limitations. We need to remain focused on patient selection and subsequent large-scale research.

  • Pyogenic liver abscess is a rare condition in healthy children in developed countries, but it can have severe consequences if diagnosis and treatment are delayed. Staphylococcus aureus is the most commonly identified cause of pyogenic liver abscess worldwide, while Klebsiella pneumoniae is the predominant causative agent in Korea. However, cases of pyogenic liver abscess caused by anaerobic bacteria have also been rarely reported. A 14-year-old boy presented to the emergency room with fever and pain in the upper right abdomen. He exhibited tenderness in the right upper quadrant, elevated white blood cell count, anemia, and elevated liver enzyme levels. Abdominal computed tomography with contrast revealed pyogenic liver abscess. The patient underwent percutaneous catheter drainage for two weeks and received a 4-week course of antibiotic therapy. Prevotella intermedia, an anaerobic bacterium commonly found in the oral flora, was isolated from the drained pus. However, no evidence was found suggesting that the infection originated from a dental source. This case highlights the importance of considering the possibility of pyogenic liver abscess even in otherwise healthy children.

  • Purpose:This study aims to suggest the future direction for applying service design to improve the quality of healthcare as part of hospital service innovation and present implementation plans in Korea, based on a review of quality improvement activities and the current status of service design applications. Methods: Through a literature review, we examined the status of service design introduction and application in the healthcare field, focusing on cases in the US and Europe. The possibility and limitations of service design in the healthcare field were examined through a comparison of oversea and domestic cases. Results: Recently, service design has begun to be applied to the healthcare field worldwide. Service design shows the possibility of an alternative that alleviates and complements the limitations of existing quality improvement activities. It also offers the possibility of creating new organizational improvement and innovation approaches through integration and convergence with existing quality improvement activities and management innovation. Conclusion: To effectively apply service design to hospitals, it is necessary to integrate internal organizations related to service improvement, combine methods, and objectively measure and evaluate performance. To this end, we propose the operation of a nationwide education and training center for quality improvement and service design led by academic society. Service design will provide an opportunity to change the management innovation and organizational culture of hospitals beyond the scope of the current quality improvement, which deals only with micro-subjects of individual hospitals.

  • This paper introduces the design of a turtle neck posture correction and prevention system for users of digital devices for a long time. The number of forward head posture patients in Korea increased by 13% from 2018 to 2021, and has not yet improved according to the latest statistics at the present time. Because of the nature of the disease, prevention is more important than treatment. Therefore, in this paper, we designed a system based on built-camera in most laptops to increase the accessiblility of the system, and utilize the features such as Pose Estimation, Face Landmarks Detection, Iris Tracking, and Depth Estimation of Google Mediapipe to prevent the need to produce artificial intelligence models and allow users to easily prevent forward head posture.
