  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how the communication barriers which patients have at the dental clinic affect the patient's satisfaction and long term sustainable relationship. The subjects of this study were 214 patients from the dental clinic and the analysis was conducted using PASW Statistics 18.0 and IBM SPSS AMOS 21. As the results of factor analysis, the communication barriers were divided to four factors: one-sided communication, lack of trust and concern, patient and environment. In conclusion, the results of this study showed that the communication barriers which patients have with hygienist affected the patient's satisfaction and long term sustainable relationship. So It is imperative that the hygienist makes a concerted effort to ensure the comfort and trust of their patients. In cases where a patient shows discomfort or dissatisfaction, it is important that the hygienist guarantees open communication to the patient in order to gain their trust. Failing to do so may result in difficulties when trying to build a strong client base.

  • Patient management is considered an important factor in dental field. The aim of this review is to analyze the efficacy of hypnosis to treat fear, anxiety, pain, stress of dental patients, and see how it can be adopted in dentistry for improving patient satisfaction. Medline research was carried out to find the use of hypnosis in dentistry and other aspects of hypnosis in medical area. It can help patient more comfortable, relax, and accordingly reduce patient's negative feelings such as fear, anxiety, pain, stress during dental treatment. Also, it affects patient recovery after surgery by accelerating healing speed and reinforce immune system. When hypnosis is used with other anesthetic method, it can reduce the use of main medication, leading to reduce possibility of side effect. Therefore, using Hypnosis can give patients more comfortable dental experience, both mentally and physically, ultimately making patients more satisfied with the dental treatment.

  • This study evaluates the need of nursing (NN) and satisfaction on nursing service (SNS) in patients and nurses. Questionnaires were completed by 105 patients and 105 nurses in one hospital. The mean score of NN was $3.73{\pm}0.76$ for patients and $3.88{\pm}0.60$ for nurses (t=9.23, p<.001). The top score came from cure territory, while the lowest from physical territory in both patients and nurses. The mean score of SNS was $3.35{\pm}0.74$ for patients and $3.31{\pm}0.44$ for nurses (t=3.88, p<.001). The top score came from cure territory, while the lowest from physical territory in both patients and nurses. When NN and SNS are compared, the score of NN was higher than that of SNS in both patients (t=3.77, p<.001) and nurses (t=9.23, p<.001). As a result, they provided unsatisfactory nursing services, although nurses worked hard to improve them. Nurse administrators should develop strategies and apply them.

Methods: Total 174 cancer patients, who visited at the clinic of Jeju National University Hospital, submitted informed consent and participated in this study from July 13 to July 30, 2009. Self questionnaire was used and data were analyzed with Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Mann-Whitney U test, ANOVA, and Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: Participants expressed the needs of most economical support (3.38 out of 4), followed by counseling of treatment plan (3.22), information of disease (3.07), and disease management except cancer (2.97). Participants were satisfied most with religious counseling (3.41), followed by nursing service support (3.39), employment counseling (3.26), and counseling for family or interpersonal relationships (3.26). The satisfaction of economical support was the lowest (1.98). Satisfaction of men was higher than women, and needs in patients who were living with children was the highest. There were no significant differences in the general characteristics, however, participants who were older than 60 years of age or had higher income showed lower needs and higher satisfaction. There were no significant differences in the medical characteristics, however, thyroid cancer patients and patients who were treated with radiation therapy or transarterial embolization showed low satisfaction. Conclusion: Cancer patients seemed to need more economical support, information of treatment or disease, and symptom management. Furthermore, there were various needs about the services, depending on family formation or economical support of patients. Therefore, it is certain that patients who were suffering from other cancers, except the 5 major cancers, needed more services. In conclusion, continuous and systemic policy to consider patient's characteristics and needs are needed in community as well as health care system.
