  • The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the relationship of the perception of patient safety culture, knowledge of standard precaution and performance of standard precaution among long-term care hospital nurses. Participants were 134 nurse in long-term hospital. Data were collected with structured questionnaires from January 2 to June 4, 2018. Data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 21.0 program for descriptive statistics t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The perception of patient safety culture were significantly correlated with knowledge of standard precaution(r=.192, p=.027), performance of standard precaution(r=211, p=.014). Therefore, in order to enhance the perception of patient safety culture and performance of standard precaution of long-term care hospital nurses, it would be necessary to enable health-care associated infections by themselves by cultivating standard precaution knowledge through systemic education and by enabling the establishment of affirmative patient safety culture.

  • This study examined the influence of patient safety culture and safety care activities of general hospital nurses. The participants were 178 nurses working in a hospital in D and G cities. Data were collected from June to July, 2015 through Questionnaires that included the Measure of Patient Safety Culture by Kim et al.(2007), and the Measure of Safety Care Activities by Lee(2009). The collected data were analyzed by descriptive analysis, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise Multiple regression. A statistically significant positive relationship was observed between the nurses perception of the patient safety culture and their safety care activities (r=.407, p<.001). The findings show the patient safety culture accounted for 43.3% of the variance in the safety care activities for hospital nurses followed by the importance of hospital work environment among nurses to improve the safety care activities. These findings highlight the need to develop effective programs to improve the perception of patient safety culture and safety nursing guideline.

  • This study conducted a descriptive research to compare the degree of patient safety culture awareness among general hospitals and long-term care hospital nurses. The subjects of this study were 150 nurses who worked for more than 6 months at 2 general hospitals and 4 long-term care hospitals located in 3 cities, the data has collected from October to December 2021. To Measure patient safety culture, the patient safety culture measurement tool developed by Soon Gyo Lee was used. Data were analyzed by 𝑥2-test, ANOVA, and t-test using SPSS 20.0 program. As a result of the study, the variables with high patient safety culture were the nurse's age(F=44.17, p=.000), clinical career(F=62.86, p=.000), and current workplace career(F=26.27, p=.000). Among the subdomains of patient safety culture, leadership(t=2.07, p= .040) and patient safety priorities(t=2.18, p=.031) were found to be higher in long-term care hospital nurses than general hospital nurses. Based on this result, we expected that it can be used as data in developing programs to raise the level of patient safety culture in hospitals and long-term care hospitals.

All of hospital with less than 300-beds or more than 300-beds, such as patient safety-medical quality, organizational culture, hospital management activities found a positive correlation among variables. The mediating effect of organizational culture in the relationship between patient safety-medical quality and hospital management activities was shown by the partial mediating effect and high causal effect. Therefore, these study suggest that patient safety-medical quality due to healthcare accreditation adoption has the potential to improve hospital management activities.

  • This study was a descriptive survey to identify influences of nurses' professional autonomy and empathy on patient safety culture. The participants were 191 nurses working at a general hospital in Seoul. The data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 24.0 program. Patient safety culture had a significant correlation with nurses' professional autonomy (r=.26, p<.001) and the subscales of empathy, which were perspective-taking (r=.30, p<.001) and empathic concern (r=.27, p<.001). Factors influencing patient safety culture were perspective-taking (${\beta}=.27$, p<.001), professional autonomy (${\beta}=.20$, p=.004), and a total clinical career of over ten years (${\beta}=.17$, p=.012). The results of this study could be the basic data for the development of programs that enhance the professional autonomy and empathy of nurses. In addition, it is necessary to study repeatedly in various groups in the future.

  • This study is a structural equation modeling study that describes patient safety incident management activities for nursing students with clinical practice experience and uses Ajzen's theory of planned behavior and safety culture climate-safety behavior model as conceptual bases, proposes a hypothetical model of nursing students' patient safety incident management activities based on the literature review, and verifies the appropriateness of the model and hypotheses through the collected data. Data were collected from 251 nursing students with clinical practice experience using a structured questionnaire. The results of this study confirmed that the model is appropriate and that patient safety management attitude, patient safety culture, and safety motivation are predictors of nursing students' patient safety management activities. Therefore, in order to improve patient safety management activities, it is necessary to provide effective patient safety incident management education programs for nursing students so that nursing students can perform correct patient safety management behaviors from the clinical practice site to the clinical practice site after graduation, and it is necessary to explore how to continuously lead such education programs to the practice site.
