Effect of the Sulfur Removal in Manufacturing Pt/C Electrocatalysts on the Performance of Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cell (인산형 연료전지용 백금촉매제조에서 황의 제거에 따른 전극 성능)

  • Pt/C powder which was used as electrocatalyst in a Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cell(PAFC) was fabricated by colloid method. It was reported that the sulfur from reductant, $Na_2S_2O_4$, worked as a poison against catalyst during long term operation. To remove these sulfurs, we try to treat Pt/C powder by three different methods. First, we tried to remove the sulfur according to temperature and time in $H_2$ atmosphere. As the heat treatment temperature is raised up, the effect of the removal is increased but the electrode performance is decreased because of the growth of Pt particle size. The optimal heat treatment temperature is $400^{\circ}C$, the size of Pt particle is approximately $35{\sim}40{\AA}$ and the electrode performance is $360mA/cm^2$ at 0.7 V. At $400^{\circ}C$, even though the time of heat treatment is extended, size of Pt, amounts of remaining sulfur and electrode performance is almost constant. Secondly, when we removed in a crucible at $900^{\circ}C$ the removal of the sulfur was not better, but the size of Pt particle, approximately $80{\AA}$, was smaller than that of heat treatment in $H_2$ atmosphere at $900^{\circ}C$. Lastly we treated with solvents such as acetone, benzene, and carbon disulfide. It was observed that sulfur components were removed partly by extraction with solvents, the electrode performances were similar each other.

Microstructural analysis of sintered brick made of recycled wastes (폐기물을 재활용한 소성벽돌의 미세구조 분석)

  • Microstructure and chemical analysis of sintered bricks containing recycled wastes were investigated by SEM and EDS. The recycled wastes for which substitute ceramic raw materials were EAF (electric arc furnace) dust, fly ash and stone ash. Yellowish and brownish regions on the surface and brownish and blackish regions in the inside of bricks were observed. Main component of yellowish region on the surface turned out to be Zn. No chemical difference between the black-core region and brownish matrix. Mullite crystallites of 1 fm size were distributed in the inside of bricks and enclosed by glass phases. It seems that alumine-silicate mixtures of kaolin and fly ash were transformed to mullite crystallites during the sintering. Relatively large pores ot several ten fm size were observed in the black-core region in the inside of bricks. The main components of the inside of brick were Al and Si. The minor components were C, Na, Mg, K, Ca, and Fe. Particularly, the precipitates of Fe-rich crystallites were observed in the amorphous matrix. These precipitates were formed due to the local reduction atmosphere in the inside of bricks. Zn-rich covers were found on the surface of bricks because Zn diffused from the inside of bricks to the surface under the reduction atmosphere.

Luminescence properties of a new $Tb^{3+}$ ion activated long persistent phosphor (새로운 $Tb^{3+}$ 이온 활성 축광성 형광체의 발광 특성)

  • A new long persistent phosphors of $CaZrO_3$ was synthesized at high temperature with weak reduction atmosphere by a traditional solid state reaction method. Photoluminescence spectra analysis showed that the $CaZrO_3$ doped with $Tb^{3+}$ emitted green-yellow emission caused by the energy level transition from the $^5D_3$ and $^5D_4$ to $^7F_1{\sim}^7F_6$. The main emission spectra of 542 nm peak by the $^5D_4{\rightarrow}^7F_5$ transition was revealed through synthesizing at high temperature in $N_2$ gas atmosphere. The afterglow emission spectra of $CaZrO_3:Tb^{3+}$ long persistent phosphores arise at 546 nm peak of narrow range. After the 254 nm ultraviolet light excitation source was switched off, the green-yellow long persistent phosphor can be observed which could last for 8 h in the limit of light perception of dark-adapted human eyes ($0.32\;mcd/m^2$).

Decomposition of Liquid Wastes(Waste Oil & Solvents) under High Temperature Conditions (산업단지 발생 액상폐기물(폐유와 폐유기용제)의 고온연소 특성)

  • This study was investigated to determine the combustion characteristics, decomposition efficiency, and the flue gas concentrations after combustion in the high temperature reactor($1,250{\sim}1,400^{\circ}C$, 1 atm) for the liquid wastes(waste oil and waste solvent) generated from the industrial complex. The concentration of nitrogen oxide(NOx) is decreased and the synthetic gas is increased when the mass ratio of $O_2$/waste is about 1.53 because the reaction condition was changed to reduction state. And BTEXs(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene) are decomposed more than 99.99%. If the highly concentrated liquid waste (waste oil and waste solvent) is treated under the operating conditions suggested by this study, our treatment method for the liquid waste was found to be proper because of the contaminants emission concentration is very low. In addition, the synthetic gas after combustion can be used as an alternative fuel.

투명전극용 박막의 제작과 전기적인 특성에 대한 연구

  • 박막형 디스플레이구서에 있어서 투명전극은 필수적이다. 투명전극은 정보를 표시하기 위해 빛을 외부로 방출시키거나 태양광 등을 소자 내부로 입사시켜야 한다. 또한 전극을 형성하는 박막은 높은 광투과율과 ${\sim}10-4{\Omega}cm$ 정도의 낮은 전기비저항을 가져야 한다. 가장 널리 사용되는 투명전극으로 ITO (Indium Tin Oxide)는 인듐의 독성, 저온증착의 어려움, 스퍼터링시 음이온 충격에 의한 막 손상으로 저항의 증가 및 액정디스플레이의 투명전극으로 사용될 경우 $400^{\circ}C$정도의 높은 온도와 수소플라즈마 분위기에서 장시간 노출시 열화로 인한 광학적 특성변화가 문제로 지적된다. 이러한 문제 해결의 대안으로 ZnO 산화물 반도체가 있는데 ITO 박막에 비해 비저항이 높기 때문에 도핑을 이용한 비저항을 ${\sim}10-4{\Omega}cm$ 정도로 낮추어야 한다. 투명전도막으로는 ITO, FTO 등과 더블어 체적 저항율은 다소 높으나 환원성 분위기에 대한 내성, 가시광 영역에서의 높은 광투과율과 저렴한 가격 등의 장점 등으로 AZO 박막이 주목 받고 있다. ZnO는 ITO 나 FTO에 비해서 700 kJ/mol의 큰 분해에너지를 가지므로 코팅 때 발생하는 전도도 및 투과율이 나빠지는 현상이 발생하지 않는 특징이 있으며, 위의 두 재료에 비해 밴드갭도 가장 낮아서 자외선 투과율이 낮다. 그러나 내습성이 약하기 때문에 이를 보완하기 위하여 내습성향상과 전도성 향상을 위해서 3족 원소인 B, In, Al, Ga 등을 도핑한 ZnO 투명전도막의 연구가 진행되고 있다. 이러한 원소들 중에서 Al로 도핑했을 때 가장 낮은 비저항을 얻을 수 있다고 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 SiOC 박막위에 AZO 박막을 제조하기 위하여 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터링법을 이용하여 박막을 성장시켰으며, 박막의 전기적 및 광학적 특성을 조사하였다. AZO 박막은 rf power가 5~200 W인 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터 방법에 의해서 제작되었다. SiOC 박막은 산소와 DMDMOS 전구체의 유량비를 다르게 하여 플라즈마 발생 화학적 기상 증착방법으로 증착되었다. 증착된 SiOC박막은 UV visible spectroscopy에 의해서 분석하였다. 투명전극의 비저항은 rf 전력이 작을 수록 낮았으며, SiOC 절연막 위에 AZO를 증착시킨 후 반사률은 반대로 바뀌는 것을 확인하였다.

  • MOEN/MO double layer which is to be used It)r the RMOS (refractory metal oxide semiconductor) gate material has been fabricated by means of low temperature reactive sputtering in N2 and Ar mixture. Good Mo2N film was obtained in the volumetric mixture of Ar:N2=95:5. The sheet resistance of the fabricated Mo7N film was about 1.20 - 1.28 ohms/square, which is about an order of magnitude lower than that of polysilicon film, and this would enable to improve the operational speed of devices fabricated with this material. When PSG (phosphorus silicate glass) was used as impurity diffusion source for the source and drain of the RMOSFET in the N2 atmosphere at about 110$0^{\circ}C$, the Mo2N was reduced to Mo resulting in much smaller sheet resistance of about 0.38 ohm/square. The threshold voltage of the RMOSFET fabricated in our experiment was - 1.5 V, and both depletion and enhancement mode RMOSFETs could be obtained.

A Study on the Treatment of Refractory Organics by Redox Reaction of Cu-Zn Metal Alloy (Cu-Zn 금속 합금의 산화.환원 반응에 의한 난분해성 COD처리에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the treatment ability of refractory organics in hot rolling precess waste water by redox(reduction and oxidation) reaction. Metal is oxidized in an aqueous solution to generate electron which can reduce water to generate hydroxy radical. These hydroxy radical is very effective to conduct hydrogen abstraction reaction and addition reaction to the carbon - carbon unsaturated link. The surface area of metal alloy reaction material is more than enough to get equilibrium at a single treatment. The efficiency of COD treatment by redox reaction showed maximum at mild pH of pH 7 and pH 6. But it was not effective in acidic atmosphere of pH 3, 4, 5 and basic atmosphere of pH 8 or over. Redox reaction system in much more helpful in a commercial coagulation sedimentation treatment than exclusive system.

Ce addition into Ni/$MgAl_2O_4$ catalysts in combined $H_2O$ and $CO_2$ reforming of $CH_4$ for improvement of coke resistance (수증기-이산화탄소 복합개질 반응에서 Ce가 증진된 Ni-Ce/$MgAl_2O_4$ 촉매의 탄소 침적저항성 향상에 관한 연구)

  • 본연구에서는 GTL(gas to liquids)공정의 합성가스 생산을 위해 수증기-이산화탄소 복합개질반응(Combined Steam and Carbon dioxide Reforming of Methane, CSCRM)을 수행하였다. CSCRM은 수증기와 이산화탄소의 공급비 조절을 통해 $H_2$/CO비를 2로 맞추기 용이한 장점을 지니고 있어 다른 단일 개질 반응과 달리 합성가스 생산 시 $H_2$/CO 비율을 조절하기 위한 부가적인 공정이 필요하지 않아 경제적인 공정이다. 일반적으로 사용되는 Ni개질촉매는 가격대비 우수한 성능을 보이지만 S/C비가 낮은 CSCRM의 경우 촉매표면의 탄소침적에 의한 비활성화가 야기되는 문제점이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 산소저장능력과 산소전달능력이 우수한 $CeO_2$를 조촉매로 첨가하여 표면에 형성된 코크 제거가 용이하도록 하였다. Ni-Ce/$MgAl_2O_4$촉매는 동시함침법(co-impregnation)으로 제조하였으며, Ni의 함량을 10wt%로 고정한 상태에서 Ce의 함량을 조절하여 Ce/Ni 최적비를 찾고자 하였다. XRD, TPR, BET, $H_2$-Chemisorption과 같은 촉매의 특성분석을 통해 촉매의 비표면적, 환원특성과 Ni입자의 분산도 등을 확인하였다. Ce를 첨가함에 따라 Ce2.5wt%까지는 비표면적이 증가하다가 이후 점차 줄어드는 경향성을 보였다. 또한, $H_2$-Chemisorption 결과 역시 비표면적과 유사한 경향성을 보였는데, Ce5.0wt%까지 Ni 분산도가 증가 하다가 다시 감소하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 반응실험은 $H_2O:CO_2:CH_4:N_2$ = 0.8:0.4:1:1의 공급조건에서 수행하였으며, 질소와 수소 환원분위기로 $700^{\circ}C$에서 1시간 환원 후 $650^{\circ}C$에서 $550^{\circ}C$범위로 온도를 떨어뜨려가면서 반응을 수행하였다. Ce를 첨가함에 따라 $CH_4$ 전환율이 증가를 하다가 Ce2.5wt% 이후 감소하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 높은 촉매 활성은 Ce 첨가로 인해 환원특성이 좋아지고 Ni분산도가 증가하여 담체와 강한 상호작용(SMSI)을 형성함으로 탄소침적 저항성 강화에 기인한 것이다.

Studies of the Fusibility of Coal Ashes in Oxidizing and Reducing Conditions (산화성 및 환원성분위기에서 석탄회분의 용융성)

  • To study the effects of chemical composition on the fusion temperatures of coal ashes, the chemical composition, mineral matter, and fusion temperature were studied with 54 kinds of coal ash samples including Korean anthracite coals. CaO, MgO and $Fe_2O_3$ were observed to be major fluxing elements in reducing and oxidizing atmosphere. The fluxing effect of $Fe_2O_3$ was increased more in reducing atmosphere. In a base/acid ratio, the fusion temperature decreased with increasing amounts of basic components. Nevertheless, the correlation between a fusion temperature and base/acid ratio was not shown well in a higher ratio of $Fe_2O_3/CaO$. The differences of fusion temperatures between oxidizing and reducing atmosphere showed close relationship with $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ ratio rather than with $Fe_2O_3$ contents. Multiple regression was used to predict the fusion temperature of coal ashes, and it was established that the major predictors in oxidizing atmosphere were Base/Acid, $Fe_2O_3/CaO$, $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$, and $(SiO_2/A1_2O_3){\cdot}(Base/Acid)$ and Base/Acid, $Fe_2O_3/CaO$, $SiO_2$, and $TiO_2$ were major ones in reducing atmosphere.

Preparation of BaTiO3 Powder in $BaO2-TiO2-Reduction Agent-PSCA (Particle Size Control Agent) System by SHS and Its Dielectric Properties (B3O2-TiO2-환원제-입자제어제계에서 자전연소합성법에 의한 BaTiO3분말의 제조 및 유전특성)

  • We have investigated on the preparation of BaTiO$_3$ powder at the system of BaO$_2$-TiO$_2$-Reduction ag.-PSCA by SHS. C and Mg were used as reduction agent, and NaCl was used as PSCA (Particle Size Control Agent). The effects of the various reduction agent and its concentration, particle size control agent, reaction mixture mass on the product in the preparation of BaTiO$_3$ powder at the optimum system by SHS were investigated. The optimum conditions for reaction system and composition were BaO$_2$+TiO$_2$+0.11 Mg +0.2C+0.75NaCl in the As atmosphere. NaCl as PSCA showed the effect of controlling the particle size of product as well as the combustion temperature. The particle size of BaTiO$_3$ synthesized at the optimum condition was about 0.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. And as the mixture mass for the reaction was increased, the more stable combustion wave appeared. We have conducted the sintering experiment at the temperature of 130$0^{\circ}C$, the time of 2 h and the atmosphere of air to measure the dielectric properties of BaTiO$_3$ synthesised in this work, and the sample sintered in this condition showed 2,290 of dielectric constant at 10$0^{\circ}C$ and 13,890 at curie point (129$^{\circ}C$).
