  • Complement of test standard, evaluation methods and models are needed to improve national competitiveness and to exchange superior genetic resources through the comparison of genetic evaluation score among nations in dairy cattle. Therefore, this study was conducted for the application of international standard to Korea considering domestic circumstance by changing linear-classification test score system of 50 classes which is currently used in Korea to system of 9 classes which is used in advanced nations of dairy. 15,230 of holstein cow linear type records with first parity records for the fifteen linear type and one total score from 2001 to 2006 and pedigree data which were collected by the Korean Animal Improvement Association were used in this study. Population classified by 9 levels was more normal distributed than 50 levels. Correlation coefficients between 50 and 9 score system showed over 0.98 by each classification scheme. Therefore, the 50 point system can be substituted with 9 point system due to their highly positive correlation. However, scores in all traits were still very contingent on classifier under the 9 point system (p<0.001), and F values between foot angle and front teat attachment showed high fluctuation depending on classifier. It means that subjective opinions of classifier would influence on linear type score as ever even if class scheme transformed to system of 9 class. Therefore, the relevance of transformation to the 9 point system should be assessed after analyses about various environmental factors.

  • This study examined the factors influencing safety scores in air conditioning installation projects, with a specific focus on the characteristics of safety managers and project-specific details. Given the increase in industrial accidents within this sector and the lack of research on smaller-scale operations, this analysis of 7,046 safety data records from Company A aimed to address this gap. The results indicate that the month of project commencement has the most significant impact on safety scores(correlation coefficient of 0.21), followed by the age of the safety manager(correlation coefficient of 0.06). Interestingly, the educational background of the managers did not appear to influence safety outcomes. Furthermore, project cost was found to have a negative correlation with safety scores(-0.1), suggesting that lower-cost projects may be associated with higher risk levels. These findings underscore the importance of developing tailored safety checklists that take into account the specific timing and scale of air conditioning installation projects. Additionally, the results suggest that incorporating both experienced(older) and less experienced(younger) safety managers into safety strategies may be beneficial for achieving optimal safety outcomes. This balanced approach could leverage the strengths of both groups, potentially enhancing overall risk assessment and mitigation efforts.

  • The purpose of this study was to carry out a comprehensive assessment of Donjibong Park in Daegu and establish a master plan for green space considering the functional characteristics of the park. For this purpose, green space in the park was assessed based on 13 indicators using three functions. A comprehensive green master plan was then proposed. Green spaces with high scores for the natural-ecological and environmental-control functions were found in the central area of the park, whereas green spaces with low scores were found near the park boundary and paved areas. Green spaces in the southeast were found to have a high score for usage functions due to their proximity to a residential area. In the master plan based on the comprehensive assessment, the plan space was divided into a conservation area, restoration area, buffer area, environmental monitoring area, observatory/trail/facility area, and waterside green space area. Also, concrete plan directions were proposed based on each plan space. These results can be utilized for establishing objective plans in the future construction of new parks.

  • The Children's Home Inventory for Listening Difficulties (CHILD) questionnaire has been applied for assessing listening and communication difficulties in various home situations for children with hearing loss. The purpose of the study was to translate the CHILD questionnaire for parents into Korean and verify reliability and validity of Korean version of CHILD (CHILD-K). CHILD-K was completed by 55 parents of children (from ages 3~12 years) using cochlear implants (CI). Among the 55 children, 27 were in preschool and 28 in elementary. Internal consistency reliability of CHILD-K was verified by Chronbach's alpha. The mixed factorial ANOVA was conducted to compare the effects of the age group and situation factors (Quiet, Noise, Distance, Social, and Media factors) on the score of CHILD. The results indicated that CHILD-K showed excellent internal consistency reliability (${\alpha}=.96$). The CHILD scores among age groups were significantly different as the older age group resulted in higher scores in all situations except Distance. For both groups the mean scores for the Quiet situation were significantly higher than other situations, and the mean scores for the Social situation were significantly lower than other situations. Moreover, analysis showed that children with CI had difficulties in the Social situation combined with other situation factors. The results indicate that the Korean version of CHILD questionnaire is a reliable tool for the assessment of communication abilities in home situation in Korean-speaking children using CI.

  • This study investigated the effects of assigning cognitive roles, a method that may promote verbal interaction in knowledge-building processes, in small-group discussion for science concept learning. Two classes (62 students) of 7th-graders respectively received a concept learning instruction through small-group discussion with assigned cognitive roles (CR) asking to explain and contradict one's idea and to synthesize and conciliate group's idea, and a concept learning instruction through small-group discussion with no specific assigned roles (NSR), for 9 class periods. After the instructions, the tests of achievement, conceptions, the perceptions on science learning environments, and the perceptions toward small-group discussion were administered. ANCOVA results revealed that low-achievers in the NSR group performed significantly better than those in the CR group. Similar tendency was also found in the scores of the conceptions test. Two groups did not differ significantly in the perceptions on science learning environments and toward small-group discussion.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for forest roads management by using AHP methodology to group the grade of disaster risk. In addition to this, a field study was performed at 114 targeted points on forest roads where there are high risks of disaster occurrence. The results of the field survey and the analysis of AHP were compared to provide the degree of disaster risks. It shows that the drainage facilities occupied the highest weighted value. Meanwhile, based on AHP analysis data, evaluation chart was created by providing evaluation criteria and evaluation score to each evaluation items. As a result of applying the evaluation chart to the field survey data, the highest score was 78.8 and the lowest score was 42.7 with the mean score of 61.8. Finally, through the experts' consultation based on calculated scores, this study proposed four different groups of disaster risk on forest roads.

  • In this study, a concept learning strategy emphasizing social consensus during discussion (SCS) was developed. The instructional effects of this strategy were compared with those of cognitive conflict strategy (CCS) and traditional instruction in the aspects of students' achievement, conceptions, communication apprehension, perceptions of science learning environment, and perceptions of small group discussion. There were no significant differences in the scores of an achievement test. For the students of low communication competency, however, the scores of the CCS group were significantly higher than those of the traditional group. The adjusted mean of the SCS group was higher than those of the other groups in a conceptions test. The social consensus strategy was also found to be more effective in learning concept for those who were more competent in communicating. No significant differences were found in the communication apprehension. The scores of three groups did not differ significantly in the subcategories of 'personal relevance' and 'students' negotiation' of the test of the perceptions of science learning environment. However, the students in the SCS group scored higher in 'participation'. The students in the SCS group perceived small group discussions more positively.

  • This study investigated the effects of cooperative learning environments in conceptual change instruction upon students' conception, achievement, learning motivation, attitude toward science instruction, and perception of involvement. Two classes of 8th graders at a co-ed middle school were assigned to the treatment and the comparison groups. They were taught about density, boiling point, freezing point, and solubility for 11 class hours. The treatment group's learning environment involved cooperative conceptual change instructions while the comparison group's environment incorporated individual conceptual change instructions. Mann-Whitney test results revealed that the scores of the conception and achievement test for the treatment group were significantly higher than those for the comparison group. The perceptions of involvement for the treatment group were more positive than those for the comparison group. The scores of the learning motivation test for the treatment group were found to be significantly higher than those for the comparison group based on a two-way ANCOVA analysis. However, attitudes toward science instruction were not found to be significantly different between the two groups.
