The present study is aimed to investigate relation between Marine Environmental Engineering (MEE) and Environmental Education (EE). This study is necessary for mutual advance toward sustainable future between MEE which has the characteristic of the practicality of the present and EE which has that of the ideality of the future. For this, we analyzed the character of MEE by the theoretical frame of 'Environmental Studies for Environmental Education' that was presented recently as a new theoretical viewpoint of EE. This study prepares a base for the two fields to help each other and to develop as we elucidated the environmental educational character which is considered latent in MEE.

본 연구는 교사연수용 통합적 환경교육자료 개발을 위해 수행되었다. 기존의 환경교육 관계 자료의 검토 분석, 전문가 협의회를 통한 개발 방향의 검토, 현행 초 중등 교과서 환경교육 관련 내용의 분석을 통해서 통합적인 환경교육자료 개발의 필요성과 방향을 정립하였다. 개발되는 자료는 환경 교육의 기초 부분과 교수 학습 활동 부분으로 크게 나누어서 앞 부분에는 기본 개념과 원리 등의 내용으로 구성하였으며 뒷 부분은 환경교육 각 영역에 관련되는 실제 활동 위주로 구성하는 것이 바람직하다는 결론을 얻었다. 그 주요 내용은 환경의 구성, 환경문제, 환경 교육의 방향, 인구문제와 환경오염, 산업화와 환경오염, 공기오염, 물의 오염, 토양 오염, 그 밖의 오염으로 구성하기로 하였다.

지금 세계는 기후변화, 물부족, 사막화 식량위기 등 환경과 자원 위기를 겪고 있다. 따라서 환경에 대한 모두의 관심과 위기의식은 그 어느 때보다 높아져 가고 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위한 가장 근본적이고 효과적인 방법은 환경교육이라고 생각한다. 그간 해외 선진 환경 교육 사례를 통해 발견한 해외 특화 환경교육아이템으 소개하여 우리나라 환경교육 장기 발전 방안을 제안하고자 한다.

Recently, with the increase of environmental problems, the importance of environmental education has also been emphasized. Science is a subject that enormously contributes to education about the environment, education in the environment, and education for the environment. Among various fields of science, earth science has a large amount of contents related environmental education, from the perspectives that the subjects of earth science are natural and artificial changes in the earth surface. Accordingly, it is clear that earth science education can play an important role in environmental education. This is proved in the fact that the goal and specifics of earth systems education coincidence with those of environmental education. Earth science curriculum in Korea, however, contains few contents related to environmental education. Earth science education that concerns our environment as a whole will help not only catch a new interest on the field of earth science but actively participate in solving our environmental problems.
