DEVELOPMENT OF DIGITAL IMAGING FIBER-OPTIC TRANS-ILLUMINATION SYSTEM (Digital Imaging Fiber-Optic Trans-Illumination System 개발)

  • This study was performed to improve the conventional $DIFOTI^{TM}$ system(EOS Inc., USA) by developing the prototype of DIFOTI system which consists of light emitting diode(LED) and digital camera. The images of enamel surfaces treated under Carbopol 907 de-mineralizing solution were taken daily during 7 days of experimental periods by both DIFOTI systems. The results of comparative analyses of obtained images can be summarized as follows: 1. Trans-illumination indices of images taken from sample enamel surfaces were decreased with time in both systems. 2. The difference of intensity of luminance between sound and de-mineralized enamel surface in prototype DIFOTI system was shown to be relatively smaller than conventional $DIFOTI^{TM}$ system. The application of LED light source in prototype DIFOTI system could possibly reduce the amount of current consumption and that could ultimately lead us to the successful development of wireless model with battery. The innovative development of digital camera is undoubtedly expected to create much clearer image despite of wireless transfer. LED and digital camera can be combined into a smaller size but a very important task of improving image manager and analyzing program into a simpler and easier one to manipulate has to be solved.

Design of FPGA Camera Module with AVB based Multi-viewer for Bus-safety (AVB 기반의 버스안전용 멀티뷰어의 FPGA 카메라모듈 설계)

  • In this paper, we proposed a multi-viewer system with multiple HD cameras based AVB(Audio Video Bridge) ethernet cable using IP networking, and FPGA(Xilinx Zynq 702) for bus safety systems. This AVB (IEEE802.1BA) system can be designed for the low latency based on FPGA, and transmit real-time with HD video and audio signals in a vehicle network. The proposed multi-viewer platform can multiplex H.264 video signals from 4 wide-angle HD cameras with existed ethernet 1Gbps. and 2-wire 100Mbps cables. The design of Zynq 702 based low latency to H.264 AVC CODEC was proposed for the minimization of time-delay in the HD video transmission of car area network, too. And the performance of PSNR(Peak Signal-to-noise-ratio) was analyzed with the reference model JM for encoding and decoding results in H.264 AVC CODEC. These PSNR values can be confirmed according the theoretical and HW result from the signal of H.264 AVC CODEC based on Zynq 702 the multi-viewer with multiple cameras. As a result, proposed AVB multi-viewer platform with multiple cameras can be used for the surveillance of audio and video around a bus for the safety due to the low latency of H.264 AVC CODEC design.

Compression and Performance Evaluation of CNN Models on Embedded Board (임베디드 보드에서의 CNN 모델 압축 및 성능 검증)

  • Recently, deep neural networks such as CNN are showing excellent performance in various fields such as image classification, object recognition, visual quality enhancement, etc. However, as the model size and computational complexity of deep learning models for most applications increases, it is hard to apply neural networks to IoT and mobile environments. Therefore, neural network compression algorithms for reducing the model size while keeping the performance have been being studied. In this paper, we apply few compression methods to CNN models and evaluate their performances in the embedded environment. For evaluate the performance, the classification performance and inference time of the original CNN models and the compressed CNN models on the image inputted by the camera are evaluated in the embedded board equipped with QCS605, which is a customized AI chip. In this paper, a few CNN models of MobileNetV2, ResNet50, and VGG-16 are compressed by applying the methods of pruning and matrix decomposition. The experimental results show that the compressed models give not only the model size reduction of 1.3~11.2 times at a classification performance loss of less than 2% compared to the original model, but also the inference time reduction of 1.2~2.21 times, and the memory reduction of 1.2~3.8 times in the embedded board.

Denoising of Digital Mammography Images Using Wavelet Transform (웨이블릿을 이용한 디지털유방영상의 노이즈 제거)

  • The optimum exposure parameters are found when examined using the automatic mode in FFDM. improve the image quality by applying denoising algorithm and propose methods to reduce AGD(Average Grandular Dose) a patient can receive. For the experiment, Nuclear Associates Model 18-222 phantom was the used, and the entrance dose and AGD were measured. And then, Signal, Noise, SNR and FOM(Figure of Merit) were measured, compared and analyzed image denoising before and after. As the experiment result, first, SNR was the highest at Mo/Mo 23kVp and W/Rh 35kvp was the lowest for the average glandular dose. It showed to use 28kVp of W/Rh to be the best through the result of FOM. SNR was the highest at Mo/Mo 23kVp(image denoising), and it showed to W/Rh and 28kVp to be the best in the FOM result which AGD was considered at the same time. By the image denoising, it is possible to reduce noise while maintain important information in the image.

Splitting between Region of Chromatic and Achromatic by Brightness and Chroma (명암과 채도에 의한 색상영역과 비색상영역의 분할)

  • Color is a sense signal for human to perceive being through light, and the color is divided into chromatic color and achromatic color. Chromatic color has hue, intensity, and saturation, but achromatic color has only intensity among the properties of chromatic color and doesn't have hue and saturation. Therefore it is important to split colors of image into area for human to perceive colors and not to perceive ones based on vision of human being. In this paper, we find a function to split colors of image into chromatic region of chromatic color region and achromatic region of achromatic color region. First, the input image of RGB color space is converted into the image of HSI color space in consideration of human vision and get a binary image from the converted image. After then, a function to split colors into ROC(ROC: Region of chromatic.) and ROA(ROA:Region of achromatic) is yield. It is difficult to split color of a general image into ROC and ROA. Therefore, to get the chromatic area and achromatic area, we make gradient images to have all range of intensity and range of saturation and to have a little range of hue and yield the function. The evaluation is tested using subjective-quality by 50 non-experts for result images of test images and general images. The results of the proposed method get better 27.5~32.96% than these of the conventional method

Implementation & Test Results analysis Of a DTV Distributed Translator(DTxR) Network (DTV 분산중계망의 구축 및 실험방송 결과분석)

  • To verify the performance of a Distributed Translator Network(DTxR) system in the real world conditions, 5 legacy DTV broadcasting repeater sites were implemented with 5 DTxR systems and field-tested by the DTV field test truck. The 4 DTV broadcasting repeater sites are selected in congested areas where their service areas are overlapped and the 5th site is deviated from the other sites to examine the effect of long-delayed multipath signals. First of all, we checked the receiving signal of the main station that used as a transmitting signal in 5 DTxR systems on the pre-selected 60 test points and tested every case of a DTxR system's on & off except 1 repeater site due to the already built-in DTV repeater system. The test items are received signal electric field strength, noise margin, ease of reception and subjective evaluation of the picture quality for received signals. We used 3rd, 5th, and 6th generation DTV receivers to examine the differences of the receivability by each generation of DTV receivers. Reviewing the test results, we conclude that the DTxR system can be adopted in the current DTV Repeater sites and it could improve the quality and receivability of the main signals by extending the service areas and enhancing the signal levels in the shadow areas without using the extra broadcasting channels.

Measurement and Evaluation of Scatter Fractions for Digital Radiography with a Beam-Stop Array (Beam-Stop Array를 이용한 DR에서의 Scatter Fraction 측정 및 효용성 평가)

  • Scatter radiation considerably affects radiographic image quality by reducing image contrast and contributing to a non-uniform background. Images containing a large portion of scatter radiation may result in an incorrect diagnosis. In the past few years, many efforts have been made to reduce the effects of scatter radiation on radiographic images. The purpose of this study is to accurately measure scatter fractions and evaluate the effectiveness of beam-stop arrays. To measure scatter fraction accurately, a beam-stop array and the SFC (Scatter Fraction Calculator) program were developed. Images were obtained using the beam-stop array for both an anti-scatter technique with an anti-scatter grid and an air gap technique. The scatter fractions of the images were measured using the SFC program. Scatter fractions obtained with an anti-scatter grid were evaluated and compared to scatter fractions obtained without an anti-scatter grid. Scatter fractions were also quantitatively measured and evaluated with an air gap technique. The effectiveness of the beam-stop array was demonstrated by quantifying scatter fractions under various conditions. The results showed that a beam-stop array and the SFC program can be used to accurately measure scatter fractions in radiographic images and can be applied for both developing scatter correction methods as well as systems.

Optimization of Parallel-Hole Collimator for Small Gamma Camera Based on Pixellated Crystal Array (배열형 섬광결정을 이용한 소형 감마카메라의 평행구멍형 조준기 최적화 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to optimize a parallel-hole collimator for small gamma camera having the pixellated crystal array and evaluate the effect of crystal-collimator misalignment on the image quality using a simulation tool GATE (Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission). The spatial resolution and sensitivity were measured for the various size of hexagonal-hole and matched square-hole collimators with a Tc-99m point source and the uniformity of flood image was estimated as a function of the angle between crystal array and collimator by misalignment. The results showed that the spatial resolution and sensitivity were greatly improved by using the matched collimator and the uniformity was reduced by crystal-collimator misalignment.

Network-Adaptive Transport Error Control for Reliable Wireless Media Transmission (신뢰성 있는 무선 미디어 전송을 위한 네트워크 적응형 전송오류 제어)

  • In wireless network environments, wireless channels are characterized by time-varying fading and interference conditions, which may lead to burst packet corruptions and delay variation. This can cause severe quality degradation of streaming media. To guarantee successful transmission of media over the hostile wireless networks, where channel conditions are highly fluctuating, a flexible and network-adaptive transport method is required. Thus, we propose a network-adaptive transport error control consisting of packet-level interleaved FEC and delay-constrained ARQ, which acts as an application-level transport method of streaming media to alleviate burst packet losses while adapting to the changing channel condition in wireless networks. The performances of the proposed network-adaptive transport error control, general error control schemes, and hybrid schemes are evaluated by a developed simulator at the transport-level and video quality of streaming media. Simulation results show that the proposed mechanism provides the best overall performance among compared other schemes in terms of the transport-level performance of error control and the performance of video quality for streaming media.

A Real Time Processing Technique for Content-Based Image Retargeting (컨텐츠 기반 영상 리타겟팅을 위한 실시간 처리 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a new real time image retargeting method which preserves the contents of an image. Since the conventional seam carving which is the well-known content-based image retargeting technology uses the dynamic programming method, the repetitive update procedure of the accumulation minimum energy map is absolutely needed. The energy map update procedure cannot avoid the processing time delay because of many operations by the image full-searching. The proposed method calculates the diffusion region of each seam candidates in the accumulation minimum energy map in order to reduce the update processing time. By using the diffusion region, several seams are extracted at the same time and the update number of accumulation energy map is reduced. Therefore, although the fast processing is possible, the quality of an image can be analogously maintained with an existing method. The experimental results show that the proposed method can preserve the contents of an image and adjust the image size on a real-time.
