The Influence of Unconditional Self-Acceptance and Self-Exposure on Post-traumatic Growth of Firefighters (소방공무원의 무조건적 자기수용과 자기노출이 외상 후 성장에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of unconditional self-acceptance and self-exposure of trainees on the post-traumatic growth and to develop a program to achieve post-traumatic growth beyond the previous level without suffering from psychopathological consequences such as post-traumatic stress disorder I wanted to help. For this purpose, unconditional self-acceptance, self-exposure, and Korean post-traumatic growth scale were used. First, it was confirmed that unconditional self-acceptance and self-exposure of firefighters are correlated with post-traumatic growth. Second, hierarchical regression analysis showed that unconditional self-acceptance has more influence on self-acceptance and post-traumatic growth than self-acceptance of firefighters. Based on the results of this study, we propose the program development and therapeutic intervention strategies to promote post-traumatic growth of firefighters.

A Study on the Heat Release Characteristics of Fire Load for Performance Based Design of Multiplexes: A Focus on the Heat Release Rate and Fire Spread Rate of Cinema Seats (복합영상관의 성능위주설계를 위한 가연물의 연소발열특성 연구: 객석의자의 열발생률 및 연소확산속도를 중심으로)

  • As performance-based design (PBD) has a direct impact on evacuation safety assessments, designing fire scenarios based on real fire tests is essential. To improve the reliability of the PBD for fire safety in multiplexes, information on fire behavior, such as heat release rate (HRR) and fire spread rate, are provided in this study by conducting a standard fabric flammability test. To this end, several chairs were arranged in a pattern that resembled a theater-style seating. The peak HRR and heating value per unit mass for each chair ranged from 415 kW to 988 kW and 15.2 MJ/kg to 23.8 MJ/kg, respectively. The heating values per unit mass of the new and old chairs were 23.6 MJ/kg and 16.7 MJ/kg, respectively. As the quantity of plastic and cushioning materials in the new chairs was more than that of the old ones, the new chairs were more vulnerable to fire hazards. Furthermore, when the chairs were arranged in a line, the fire spread rate was observed to be 0.39-0.42 m/min, regardless of the ignition location. Finally, a fire growth curve showing the peak HRR and fire spread rate was also demonstrated.

CCDP Evaluation of the Eire Area of NPPs Using Eire Model CEAST (화재모델 CFAST를 이용한 원전 화재구역의 CCDP평가)

  • This paper describes the result of the pump room fire analysis of the nuclear power plant using CFAST fire modeling code developed by NIST. The sensitivity studies are performed over the input parameters of CFAST: the constrained or unconstrained fire, Lower Oxygen Limit (LOL), Radiative Fraction (RF), and the opening ratio of the fire doors. According to the results, a pump room fire is the ventilation-controlled fire, so it is adequate that the value of LOL is 10% which is also the default value. It is anlayzed that the Radiative Fraction does not affect the temperature of the upper gas layer. It is appeared that the integrity of the cable located at the upper layer is maintained except for the safety pump at the fire area and the Conditional Core Damage Probability (CCDP) is 9.25E-07. It seems that CCDP result is more realistic and less uncertain than that of Fire Hazard Analysis (FHA).

Characteristics of Heat Flux in a Compartment Fire - Reduced Scale Test (구획공간 화재의 열유속 특성 - 축소 실험)

  • The present study performs a series of 40 % reduced scale of ISO-9705 fire test to investigate the characteristics of heat flux on the floor level in terms of fire characteristics and location in the compartment. The heat flux was measured with Schmidt-Boelter type heat flux gauge at two locations on the floor level of inside and doorway side of the compartment. Different types of fuel - methane, heptane, toluene, ethanol, polystyrene - were burned in this test series. The measured heat flux inside of the compartment was relatively higher than that of front side as the heat release rate of fire and upper layer temperature increased. The difference of measured heat flux at inside and doorway side increased for high sooty fire. The present study shows that the heat flux distribution at lower layer greatly depend on the thermal radiation from fire and upper layer, not only the upper layer temperature but also various fire characteristics such as composition of combustion gases, soot concentration, ventilation condition and so on.

  • 본 논문은 다중이용업소와 목조건축물에 자주 사용되는 미송합판에 방염처리를 하여 유사 화재를 구현하고, 그 화염 세기에 따른 방염의 실효성을 실험한 것이다. 방염처리를 하면 화재 시 가연물의 초기착화시간을 지연시켜 화재성장속도를 늦출 수 있고, 원활한 소화활동을 가능하게 해준다. 하지만 어느 정도 화재가 진행되어 화염이 거세지면, 45도 연소시험을 통한 방염기준을 충족하여도 그 성능을 기대하기 어렵다고 한다. 따라서 45도 연소시험 시 사용되는 65mm의 불꽃보다 큰 화염상태(초기착화 이후의 상태)에서 방염처리한 내장재(미송합판)의 방염성능이 유지되는지의 여부를 실제로 입증하고 그 근거를 뒷받침하기 위하여 본 연구를 시작하게 되었다. 실험에서는 화재의 규모(화염의 세기)를 달리하여 각기 다른 종류의 방염제로 방염 처리한 미송합판의 착화 시 화염온도, 복사열 유속 그리고 착화지연시간을 파악하였으며, 45도 연소시험과 관련하여 방염성능을 분석하였다. 45도 연소시험의 경우 실험에 사용한 방염 처리 합판은 방염성능 기준을 만족하는 것으로 나타났으며, 소규모 유사 화재로 직경 10cm 연소용기를 사용한 연소실험에서는 방염 처리한 합판의 착화지연시간이 평균적으로 대규모 유사 화재실험보다 길어 어느 정도는 방염효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 대규모 유사 화재로 1단위 유류화재 연소용기를 사용한 연소실험의 경우 열방출율이 커 형성된 탄화막이 무분별하게 박리되고 발화가 일어나 착화지연시간의 차이를 구별하기 어려웠기 때문에 방염효과를 기대할 수 없었다.

  • 현재 국내에 설치되어 사용중인 위험물 저장 탱크는 총 152,370 개로 이중 1만 리터미만의 저장 용량을 가진 탱크가 약 50%를 차지하고 있으며, 화재나 폭발 시 진압의 어려움으로 인하여 막대한 손실을 초래할 우려가 있는 5만 리터 이상의 대형 탱크도 2만개 이상이 된다. 이러한 대형 탱크의 방호를 목적으로 설치된 기존의 포 소화시스템은 기로제로 공기를 이용한 기계 포 소화시스템으로써 설비 구성상 복잡하고 설치비용이 높아 경제적으로 불리하며 화재 진압에 적용된 포가 열적, 물리적 요인들로 인하여 파괴될 때 방출되는 것이 공기이므로 이는 화재를 성장시키는 원인이 되기도 하여 소화성능 면에서도 불리하다(중략)

  • The present study investigates the fire development characteristics on a Ro-Ro ferry vehicle using the modified FDS code considering droplet break-up. Numerical simulations are compared with model-scale tests for validation of field model. The predicted results such as smoke layer temperature and oxygen concentration are in good agreement with model-scale tests. Also, it is shown that water spray systems are very effective to control the fire development on a vehicle deck. These numerical simulations using a field model may be helpful in accomplishing the fire safety for marine vehicle.

Study on the Fire Behavior of Spring Bed Mattress with and Without a Cooling Frame (냉각프레임 설치 유무에 따른 스프링 침대 매트리스의 화재성상에 관한 연구)

  • To improve the fire safety of spring bed mattress, a cooling frame including cooling material (water) was made and a cooling frame was installed under the bed mattress or between the bed mattress and bed mattress base; fire tests (real scale) were conducted with or without a cooling frame. Similar fire behavior was observed at the beginning of the test (approximately 3 minutes). Subsequently, rapid fire growth in the mattress without a cooling frame, but with a cooling frame, the decline progressed without growth. The flame spread on the top surface of the bed mattress was similar in the semicircular direction, and the average flame speed velocity was analyzed at approximately 0.005 m/s. The maximum flame height was found to be approximately 2.7 m without a cooling frame, and approximately 1.8 m with a cooling frame installed. In addition, the maximum heat release rate was measured to be approximately 740 kW without a cooling frame, and approximately 400 kW with a cooling frame installed. As a result, the flame height and heat release rate were reduced when the bed mattress was fired through the installed cooling frame.

  • As population grows and urban facilities are concentrated in specific areas due to recent urbanization and industrialization, cities have structures vulnerable to both natural and man-made disasters. Most of these structures, whether buildings or residential houses, are left in a defenseless state if not given the appropriate check-up before they are built. The process of rapid urbanization without establishing the proper urban fire risk assessment will surely lead to disasters. This phenomenon occurred during the process of rapid urbanization and maybe said the result of chaotic urban expansion where modern urban infrastructure is not yet equipped in the city. Under the said circumstances, propagation processes of Korean urban fire cases were investigated to establish fire risk assessment system. Moreover, this paper explains the experiment performed for establishing urban risk assessment model. The said experiment was conducted using the new urban fire risk assessment model.
