The Flame and Distributed Temperature Restraint Properties of Fire Venetian Blind Louver in Buildings (차양식 방화루버의 화염 및 온도 전파 억제 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the fire prevention performance using the fire venetian blind louver subjected to burning by fire flame. The investigation is based on testing 2 full scale specimens, which is $3m{\times}3m$ module, $850mm{\times}1,500mm$ open, and $900mm{\times}900mm{\times}175mm$ venetian blind louver. Two louver thickness (1.5 and 2.0mm) were adopted. The specimens were exposed to fire flame temperature levels of ISO834 at the lower surface of the fire venetian blind louver specimens with exposure duration of one hour in Korea Institute of Construction Technology (KICT). It was found from the test results that the values of distributed temperature, decreased for all specimens for protecting to fire flame by venetian blind louver. The results of tests were a good fire prevention performance between in initial to 6 mins. At 60 minutes around ISO 834 fire loading, the percentages of distributed temperature in 500mm and 800mm height ranged between 11 and 10% respectively, regardless of louver thickness. This study, therefore, will improve the fire venetian blind louver for fire protection and prevention performance.

Axisymmetric Simulation of Nonpremixed Counterflow Flames - Effects of Fuel Concentration on Flame Structure - (비예혼합 대향류 화염의 축대칭 모사 - 연료농도가 화염구조에 미치는 영향 -)

  • The axisymmetric methane-air counterflow flame was simulated to investigate changes in the flame structure due to the fuel concentration and to evaluate the numerical method. The global strain rates $a_g=20,\;60,\;90\;s^{-1}$ and the mole fractions of methane $x_m=20,\;50,\;80\%$ in the fuel stream were taken to be numerical parameters. The axisymmetric simulation was conducted by using the Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) which employed a mixture fraction combustion model, and the results were compared with those of OPPDIF, which is an one-dimensional flamelet code and includes detail chemical reactions. In all the cases tested, there was good agreement in the temperature and axial velocity profiles between the axisymmetric and one-dimensional simulations. It was shown that the flame thickness and peak flame temperature increase and the flame radius decreases as the fuel concentration increases.

Characteristics and Risk Assessment of Flame Spreading Over Metal Dust Layers (퇴적금속 분진층을 전파하는 화염의 연소특성과 위험성 평가)

  • The wide use of metal dusts have been found in industrial field and many dust explosion accidents occur by fire spread of dust layer. In this study, we developed a new experimental device to examine fire and explosion characteristics of the dust layer. Aspects of the burning zone over metals(Mg, Zr, Ta, Ti, etc) and PMMA(Polymethyl methacrylate) dust layers have been investigated experimentally to clarify behaviors (Spread rate and quenching distance) and effects of $N_2$ surrounding gas on the fire spread over metal dust layers. From the experimental result, it was found that the spread rate of metal dusts is larger than PMMA, the dependability of spread rate over the thickness of dust layer is small, and the minimum oxygen concentration of spread flame over Mg dust layer is 3.6-3.7 vol%. Since high correlation between the spread rate and the reciprocal of quenching distance was seen, relative risk prediction in those inflammable parameters can be predicted.

NOx Formation Characteristics with Oxygen Enrichment in Nonpremixed Counterflow Flames (비예혼합 대향류화염에서 산소부화에 따른 NOx 생성특성)

  • The NOx emission characteristics with oxygen enrichment in non-premixed counterflow flames were investigated numerically. To consider systematically the situation of inevitable $N_2$ contamination by air infiltration in the process of pure-oxygen combustion, the volume ratio of $O_2$ in an oxidizer was changed from 21% to 100%. As a result the NO emission index $(EI_{NO})$ has the highest value under condition of 75% oxygen enrichment. This result can be explained by the change of $N_2$ destruction rate with oxygen enrichment rather than flame temperature, flame thickness and residence time. In particular, it was found that the reaction of N+NO=$N_2+O$ has the largest contribution on NOx production in oxygen-enrichment flames.

  • One of the most useful method for increasing combustion loading of premixed flame is to strengthen the turbulent intensity of unburned mixture. It produces an important information to a design of efficient combustion equipment that analysing microstructure of strong turbulence premixed flame. The flame structure and characteristics are depend on the turbulence of unburned mixture. Therefore, to strengthen the turbulent intensity of unburned mixture make flame scale small and accomplish efficient combustion. We measured the velocity of local flame front movements, local eddy radius and local reaction zone thickness quantitatively with increasing turbulent intensity of unburned mixture. We researched the microstructure of flame using ion currents that react sensitively in the reaction zone. Consequently, the velocity of local flame front movements is depend on the velocity of unburned mixture and local eddy scale is to be small with increasing turbulent intensity. But there is no change in local reaction zone thickness with turbulence.

  • The flame initiation of an infinite fuel system exposed to a planar ignition kernel has been investigated numerically. The aim has been to promote an understanding of the flame initiation by using the simplest mathematical formulation which retains the essential physical features. It has been found that there exists a minimum ignition energy below which a combustion wave cannot be initiated. For a fixed value of Lewis number, the same flame progation velocity has been obtained irregardless of the amount ignition energy supplied. Furthermore, for a fixed energy input there is a maximum Lewis number over which the flame cannot be initiated.

  • The thickness of flame zone reaction rate and apparent activation energy in the formation reaction of $Ti_3AI$ intermetallic compound were investigated using SHS method which sustains the reaction spontaneously and utilizes the heat generated by thye exothermic reaction itself. In this reaction the thickness of flame zone was 1.4 mm and the reaction rate was $0.4g/\textrm{cm}^2{\cdot}sec$. Also the apparent activation energy calculated using from the experimental data obtained by controlling the realtive green density was 40kJ/mol.

Evaluation of Thermal Durability for Thermal Barrier Coatings with Gradient Coating Thickness (경사화 두께를 갖는 열차폐 코팅의 열적 내구성 평가)

  • The effects of the coating thickness on the thermal durability and thermal stability of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) with a gradient coating thickness were investigated using a flame thermal fatigue (FTF) test and thermal shock (TS) test. The bond and topcoats were deposited on the Ni-based super-alloy (GTD-111) using an air plasma spray (APS) method with Ni-Cr based MCrAlY feedstock powder and yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), respectively. After the FTF test at 1100 ℃ for 1429 cycles, the bond coat was oxidized partially and the thermally grown oxide (TGO) layer was observed at the interface between the topcoat and bond coat. On the other hand, the interface microstructure of each part in the TBC specimen showed a good condition without cracking or delamination. As a result of the TS test at 1100 ℃, the TBC with gradient coating thickness was initially delaminated at a thin part of the coating layer after 37 cycles, and the TBC was delaminated by more than 50% after 98 cycles. The TBCs of the thin part showed more oxidation of the bond coat with the delamination of topcoat than the thick part. The thick part of the TBC thickness showed good thermal stability and oxidation resistance of the bond coat due to the increased thermal barrier effect.

V형 유입구에 안내깃을 포함한 액체 램제트 엔진 연소실의 3차원 비반응 및 반응 유동 해석

  • 액체 램제트 엔진의 V형 유입구에 3개의 안내깃이 있은 경우에 대하여 유동 해석을 수행하였다. 수치해석에 앞서 본 연구에서는 ONERA에서 발표한 고체 램제트 연소기에 대한 실험 결과를 유동 해석 결과와 비교하여 해석의 정확성을 검증하였다. 안내깃에 의하여 연소실로 유입되는 공기는 유입구 곡관에서 효율적인 흐름을 유지할 수 있고 분사되는 연료의 분포도 제어될 수 있다. 안내깃의 두께가 큰 경우 자칫 유입되는 공기의 흐름을 방해하는 장애물의 역할을 할 수 있으므로 두께의 변화에 대한 영향도 계산하였으나 선정된 안내깃에 의한 연소실에서의 유동특성 변화는 적은 것으로 나타났다. 입구조건을 균일 유동으로 주고 해석한 결과, 연소실에서의 유동은 안내깃의 유무에 따라 큰 영향을 받지 않았다. 그러나 흡입구로 유입되는 공기의 속도 분포는 다양한 비행조건에서 균일하지 않기 때문에 주 유동을 방해하지 않는 안내깃의 설치는 연소실에서의 좀 더 안정된 화염의 생성을 위해 필요하다.

진공 플라즈마 용사 코팅 조건에 따른 초고온 세라믹 코팅의 미세구조

  • 차세대 가스터빈 엔진 및 초음속 항공기 내 고온부의 온도가 증가함에 따라, 기존의 초내열합금 기반 소재를 사용하기 어려워지고 있다. 초고온 세라믹스는 높은 기계적 물성, 화학적 안정성 등 우수한 고온 특성을 가지고 있어 기존의 초고온 소재를 대체 할 수 있는 물질로 부상되고 있다. 하지만 기존의 금속 기반 소재 대비 높은 밀도로 인하여 초고온 세라믹 단일체를 비행체 부품에 적용하기에는 어려움이 있다. 이에 초고온 세라믹스와 탄소섬유를 포함하는 세라믹 복합체(Ceramic Matrix Composite, CMC)를 제작하여 동등한 기계적 물성을 보이면서 무게를 감소시키는 연구들이 진행 중에 있다. 초고온 세라믹스가 함침 된 세라믹 복합체의 경우 우수한 내삭마, 내산화 특성을 보이지만, 장시간 고온에 노출되어 탄소 섬유가 드러나게 되면 급격한 산화로 인해 소재 특성의 열화가 진행되는 단점을 가지고 있다. 따라서, 탄소 섬유가 드러나지 않도록 복합체 표면에 코팅층을 형성하여 세라믹 복합체 모재를 보호하는 방법이 활발히 연구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 진공 플라즈마 용사 공정을 이용하여 다양한 공정조건 하에서 초고온 세라믹 코팅층을 형성하였다. 수십 마이크론 크기 분포를 갖는 HfC 분말을 Ar 유송 가스를 이용하여 플라즈마 화염 내부로 투입하였다. 플라즈마 화염 가스는 Ar 과 H2를 혼합하여 구성되었으며, 분위기 가스로는 N2를 사용하였다. 코팅에 사용된 모재로는 ZrB2 단일체와 SiC가 미량 포함된 HfC 단일체를 사용하였다. 다양한 공정 조건하에서 형성된 HfC 코팅층의 두께, 미세 조직구조를 SEM을 이용하여 관찰하였으며, XRD를 이용하여 형성된 HfC 코팅층의 결정구조를 분석하였다.
