Optical switching by use of a multimode waveguide and hologram filters (다중모드 도파로와 홀로그램 필터를 이용한 광신호 교환)

  • We present a method to implement a $M{\times}N$ switching system by use of an $M{\times}1$ multimode waveguide and N hologram filters. The pass of optical signals is provided by an $M{\times}1$ multimode waveguide. The complex speckle patterns generated from the multimode waveguide are recorded into the N hologram filters and used as the code for destination. The feasibility of our method is experimentally demonstrated.

  • 본 논문에서는 광원 정보를 사용하여 다양한 재생환경에서 효과적인 홀로그래픽 비디오 서비스를 제공하기 위한 방법을 제안한다. 제안하는 기법에서 부호화 과정에서는 가우시안 블러를 적용한 영상의 개수를 조절, 분리 하고 다운 샘플링 한 하나의 영상 압축을 한 뒤 전송한다. 이 영상을 다운 샘플링, 업 샘플링, 보간법, 양방향 필터 (Bi-lateral filter) 등의 기법을 이용하여 획득한 영상과 나머지 영상을 다운 샘플링과 업 샘플링 하여 더한 영상의 차를 압축하여 수신측으로 전송한다. 복호화 과정에서는 압축된 광원 정보를 복원한 후 기본계층 정보를 가진 영상을 업 샘플링과 보간법, 양방향 필터 (Bi-lateral filter) 등의 기법을 적용하고 수신자의 환경과 고려에 따라 차영상을 더 한 후 CGH를 통해 홀로그램을 획득하였다. 실험을 통해 제안하는 기법이 기존의 방법들 보다 우수한 홀로그램을 복원 할 수 있다는 것을 확인하였다.

  • This paper describes a theory to calculate sound source field from the spatial transform of sound field and the measured cross-power spectrum of sound pressure over a hologram plane close to a sound source, Calculating method is proposed to solve sound pressures from cross-power spectrums over a hologram plane, For this, Taylor series for the nonlinear equations is expanded, and it is calculated using Newton-Raphon method, Also, a wave number filter is used to reduce errors that is occurred on the backward propagation, and is performed numerical simulation of the circular piston sound source with infinite baffle in water to verify the proposed theory.

Depth location extraction and three-dimensional image recognition by use of holographic information of an object (홀로그램 정보를 이용한 깊이위치 추출과 3차원 영상인식)

  • The hologram of an object contains the information of the object's depth distribution as well as the depth location of the object. However these pieces of information are blended together as a form of fringe pattern. This makes it hard to extract the depth location of the object directly from the hologram. In this paper, I propose a numerical method which separates the depth location information from the single-sideband hologram by gaussian low-pass filtering. The depth location of the object is extracted by numerical analysis of the filtered hologram. The hologram at the object's depth location is recovered by the extracted depth location.

  • We explain that a holographic filter of the generalized Hough transform can be easily obtained by use of rotational multiplexing in hologram recording. To show the feasibility of our approach experimentally, we recorded the Hough transform filter of both line and circle parameterization by combined use of rotational and angle multiplexing. Experimental results on the Hough transform for a few input patterns are presented.

  • The Hilbert transform, which has been hitherto discussed in coherent imaging, is for the first time investigated in the context of incoherent imaging. Because the Hilbert transform of the information is superposed coherently with the original light field. We present a two-pupil optical heterodyne scanning system and analyze mathematically the design of its two pupils such that the optical system can perform the Hilbert transform on incoherent objects. In this paper, we review and formulate the definition of an analytic signal of a function and from which we can obtain the Hilbert transform of the function. and we analyze the design of pupils so as to obtain the Hilbert transform and show some 2-D simulations. Computer simulation results of the idea clarify the theoretical results.

Volume holographic correlator for fingerprint recognition (지문 인식을 위한 체적 홀로그래픽 광상관기)

  • In this paper, we propose an optical correlator system using volume holograms for database of matched filters. Optical correlator has high speed and parallel processing characteristics of optics. Matched filters are recorded into a volume hologram that can store data with high density, transfer them with high speed, and select a randomly chosen data element. The multiple reference images of database are prerecorded in a photorefractive crystal in the form of Fourier transform images, simply by passing the image displayed in a spatial light modulator through a Fourier transform lens. The angular multiplexing method for multiple holograms of database can be achieved by rotating the crystal by use of a step motor. Experimental results show that the proposed system can be used for the fingerprint recognition.

  • We propose an optical fingerprint identification system using volume hologram for database of matched filter. Matched filters in VanderLugt correlator are recorded into a volume hologram that can store data with high density, transfer them with high speed, and select a randomly chosen data element. The multiple reference fingerprint photographs of database are prerecorded in a photorefractive material in the form of Fourier transform images, simply by passing the image displayed in a spatial light modulator through a Fourier transform lens. The angular multiplexing method for multiple holograms of database is achieved by controlling the reference directions with a step motor. Experimental results show that the proposed system can be used for secure entry systems to identify individuals for access to a restricted area, security verification of credit cards, passports, and other IDs.

  • We propose an efficient coding method of digital holograms using MCTF and standard compression tools for video. The hologram is generated by a computer-generated hologram (CGH) algorithm with both an object image and its depth information. The proposed coding consists of localization by segmenting a hologram, frequency transform using $64\times64$ segment size, 2-D discrete cosine transform DCT for extracting redundancy, motion compensated temporal filtering (MCTF), segment scanning the segmented hologram to form a video sequence, and video coding, which uses H.264/AVC. The proposed algorithm illustrates that it has better properties for reconstruction, 10% higher compression rate than previous research in case of object.

  • In this paper, we proposed a wavelet phase-only filter modulation synthetic discriminant function joint transform correlator(WPOfSDF-JTC) for scale invariant pattern recognition, and an improved algorithm to reduce the filter synthesis time. Computer simulation showed that the proposed filter has better SNR than CWMF if input image has random noise and the improved synthesis algorithm can reduce the iteration time. We used frequency selective JTC to solve the problem of the optical alignment and eliminate the autocorrelation and crosscorrelation between each input image.
