  • It is important to empirically investigate the typological characteristics of subway station areas considering the comprehensive elements of transit-oriented development (TOD) planning so that its implementation can be effective in attaining both increase in transit ridership and decrease in inordinate automobile dependence. This article aims to identify diverse features of subway station areas in Seoul known for good public transit system. After collecting and manipulating the measures on planning elements such as density, diversity and accessibility for TOD planning by distance-based buffer from a subway station, the article tried to interpret analysis results on their typological characteristics. They can be summarized with two conclusions. First, characteristics of landuse and public transit system can be distinctly differentiated in the Seoul subway station areas. It implies that both planning elements should have not been integrated for now. Second, the characteristics of public transit system can be divided by modes. They provide us that public transit system in Seoul needs to be more strongly integrated than current system.

  • In this study, torrefaction of mixed softwood chips under anoxic condition was performed to improve energy density and maintain consistent quality of biomass. Characteristics of torrefied biomass depending on reaction time (30 min) and temperature (240, 260,$280^{\circ}C$) were investigated. Torrefaction of mixed softwood chips significantly improved the heating value compared to that of untreated biomass. As the torrefaction temperature was increased, the carbon content of torrefied biomass increased from 46.55 to 55.73%, while its hydrogen and oxygen contents decreased from 6.00 to 5.87% and from 30.55 to 27.21%, respectively. Most of hemicelluloses and volatile compounds were removed during torrefaction. The highest heating value was 5132 kcal/kg when torrefaction was performed at$280^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. It implied that the heating value increased by 13% compared to that of original biomass. However, the condition of effective torrefaction was at $240^{\circ}C$ for 30 min when weight loss and energy yield was considered.

  • To determine a favorable substrate formulation for Grifola frondosa, physicochemical conditions, culture properties, and yields according to various substrate formulations were investigated. Based on these analyses, T4 (80:5:15 ratio of oak sawdust to dried bean-curd refuse to corn husk) resulted in a shorter cultivation period and higher yields (weight of fresh mushrooms harvested at maturity) than those of other treatments. The physicochemical properties of T4 were pH 5.4, 2.4% crude fat contents, 54 C/N ratio, 74.3% porosity, and 0.26 g/cm3 bulk density. These results emphasize the importance of optimal substrate development on the production efficiency of G. frondosa mushrooms and have implications for commercial applications.

  • In this study, an experimental study was conducted on the flame behavior, combustion dynamics, and NOx emission characteristics for hydrogen co-firing with the EV burner which is the first stage combustor of GT24. It was confirmed that as the hydrogen co-firing rate increases, the NOx emission increases. This change was elucidate to be the result of a combination of changes in penetration depth due to changes in fuel density, reduction in fuel mixing due to changes in flame position due to increased flame propagation speed, and oscillation of fuel mixedness due to combustion instability. Through pressurization tests in the range of 1.3 to 3.1 bar, NOx emission characteristics under high-pressure operating conditions were predicted, and based on this, the hydrogen co-firing limits of the EV burner was evaluated.

  • This study analyzed the spatial correlograms of minutely rainfall data with respect to various accumulation times. A bivariate mixed lognormal distribution was applied for rainfall modelling. A total of 26 minutely rainfall data sets from rain gauge stations in the central part of Korean peninsula were analyzed, also repeated for several storm types like Jang-Ma, typhoon and convective storms for their comparison. The accumulation times 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 30 and 60 minutes were considered in this study. As results, it was found that the minutely rainfall data available was not good enough for estimating minutely rainfall intensity at ungaged locations. It seems more practical to use the hourly rainfall data with much higher rain gauge density, if proper methods for interpolation and data dis-aggregation are provided.

  • In this study we carried out to find suitable nutrient supplement of corncob as a main carbon source for bottle culture of oyster mushroom. Data from chemical analysis of Kapok seed cake(KP) treatment showed 20.2 of C/N ratio, $0.28g/cm^3$ of bulk density and 74.2% of porosity. Mushroom yield of KP treatment is 158g/bottle that is similar to control(150g/bottle). However, the price of KP is 400 won/kg that is cheaper than 550 won/kg of cotton seed cake(CS). The highest REV(relative feed value) also was observed KP treatment. A further study is required determine practical animal performance by feeding the corncob-based KP.

  • In this paper, we propose the use of hierarchical classification for winter crop mapping based on satellite imagery. A hierarchical classification is a classifier that maps input data into defined subsumptive output categories. This classification method can reduce mixed pixel effects and improve classification performance. The methodology are illustrated focus on winter cropsin Gimje city, Jeonbuk with Landsat-8 imagery. First, agriculture fields were extracted from Landsat-8 imagery using Smart Farm Map. And then winter crop fields were extracted from agriculture fields using temporal Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). Finally, winter crop fields were then classified into wheat, barley, IRG, whole crop barley and mixed crop fields using signature from Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The results indicate that hierarchical classifier could effectively identify winter crop fields with an overall classification accuracy of 98.99%. Thus, it is expected that the proposed classification method would be effectively used for crop mapping.

  • This study is to identify urban characteristics affecting obesity of elementary, middle and high school students. Most of previous studies in Korea discussed healthy city focusing on adults. We list up possible urban characteristic factors that are considered to affect adolescent obesity from previous studies, and then conduct regression analysis to find policy implications in urban planning. Based on the physical examination data of adolescent students in Seoul from the Ministry of Education, we set the rate of obese students by school as a dependent variable. Urban characteristic variables are set as explanatory variables, and measured by buffer analysis within 500m, 1000m and 1500m. The result of regression analysis shows that the obese rate of students increases with adults' lower education level, higher rate of non-apartment houses, older age of houses and more homogeneous land use. However, the result does not indicate that population density, accessibility to public transportation and the urban park are significant factors for adolescent obesity. Based on this result, urban planning policy for promoting adolescent health should be discussed further.

  • In the polymerization of ethylene to produce crystalline polyethylene wax using the homogeneous titanium-based catalyst, the effects of various parameters such as catalyst, temperature, pressure, comonomer and time on the performance of catalyst and the properties of polyethylene wax were investigated. The properties of polyethylene wax obtained were characterized in terms of molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, crystallinity, density and morphology. Among the polymerization features with a series of mixed cocatalyst systems of $(C_2H_5)_3Al$, $(i-C_4H_9)_3Al$, $(C_2H_5)_2AlCl$ and $(C_2H_5)_3Al_2Cl_3$, it turned out that the combination of $(C_2H_5)_3Al$ and $(C_2H_5)_3Al_2Cl_3$ was more effective than any other combination. It was noted that the activity of catalyst and the properties of polyethylene wax were affected by the polymerization parameters, i.e. time, temperature and hydrogen partial pressure. The various kinds of crystalline polyethylene wax could be obtained by careful control of these parameters. Also we could obtain low density polyethylene wax which has density down to 0.91 g/cc by use of 1-butene as a comonomer.

  • In this work, the cure kinetics and rheological and mechanical properties of diglycidylether of bispheonol A (DGEBA, EP)/polyurethane (PU) blends were investigated. The 1 wt% N-benzylpyrazinium hexafluoroantiminate (BPH) was used as a latent thermal catalyst. Latent properties were performed by measurement of the conversion as a function of reaction temperature using DSC. And the rheological properties of the blend systems were investigated under isothermal conditions using a rheometer. Crosslinking activating energies (Ec) were also determined from the Arrhenius equation based on gel time and curing temperature. The impact strengths were measured as mechanical properties of the casting specimens. The BPH in the blend systems could be an excellent latent thermal catalyst without any co-initiator. The rheological results showed that Ec was highest when PU content was 30 wt% which was in good agreement with the impact strengths. This was probably due to the intermolecular hydrogen bonding between the hydroxyl group in PU and EP, resulting in increasing the crosslinking density.
