  • To investigate the flow related to the mixing, micro PIV measurements were performed in the middle plane of the channel. A passive micro mixer analyzed in this work has been designed in the shape of a three-dimensional microchannel and fabricated with PDMS molding process by KAIST. The mixing performance was evaluated for different flow rates using phenolphthalein and sodium hydroxide solutions. Results show that mixing is enhanced by the increase of flow rate, which yields stronger secondary flows with helical streamlines.

Flow Analyses for the Uniform Distribution of Propellants at Manifolds of a Full-scale Gas Generator (가스발생기 연료 및 산화제 매니폴드 유동해석을 통한 유량균일성 파악)

  • Flow analyses have been performed to investigate the uniformity of propellant flow through the fuel and oxidizer manifolds of a full-scaled gas generator for a pump-fed liquid rocket engines. Injectors were simulated as porous medium layers having equivalent pressure drops. The uniformity of propellants has been analyzed for 3 fuel rings and 3 injector head configurations. The mixture ratio distribution at the exit of injectors has been estimated from the mass flow rates of fuel and oxidizer. The best configuration of fuel ring and injection head was selected through these flow analyses.

  • LES code was developed and verified to investigate the turbulence evolution in the gas generator equipped with turbulence ring. We compared mixing enhancement of various turbulence rings having different shape and size. To qualify the mixedness, we used two perturbation values of energy and enstrophy.

  • The combustion characteristics of End-Burning hybrid combustor using different types of injector system are numerically investigated to visualize the temperature fields in the combustion chamber The basic characteristics of combustion with different O/F ratio is also analyzed in order to capture the main behavior of diffusion flame inside the swirl induced hybrid combustion chamber It was found that the arrangement of oxidizer injectors give strong effect on the temperature field dominating mixing between fuel and oxidizer. The results show that among five different oxidizer injectors arrangement, the counter flow injector has the highest mixing efficiency. However, the observed high wall temperature presence near the oxidizer injectors remains to be solved.

  • Liquid flow in a stirring mixer driven by a six-blade turbine has been investigated experimentally. The flows were quantified by measurements of velocity characteristics. obtained by a Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV). for a blade rotational speed of 100r.p.m. and for two blade clearances from the bottom of the tank. The instantaneous flow fields show that the bulk flow consists of small scale vortices very complicately. However, the mean flow results show that the formation of ring vortices above and below the blade. which depend on the clearance.

  • 기존 냉각수 주입 계통의 안전성 및 신뢰도를 높이려는 노력에서 미국, 일본, 이태리 등 여러 나라에서는 증기 주입기에 대한 분석 기법 개발과 실험을 통한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 이들이 이상 유동 현상이 일어나는 혼합 노즐을 해석하기 위해 사용한 방법은 제어체적 분석기법으로, 이 분석 방법에서는 응축 메커니즘을 고려할 수 없다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 사항을 개선하기 위해 혼합 노즐 해석시 one dimensional two fluid model을 적용하여 상간의 운동량 및 에너지 전달을 고려함으로써 비교적 정확하게 해석 모델 및 코드를 개발하였고, 출력 변수인 방출 압력과 방출 온도를 계산하였으며, 개발한 해석 코드를 검증 및 분석을 하기 위해 ANL 실험자료를 근거로 하였다. 개발한 코드에 의해 계산된 방출 압력은 ALN 실험치에 비해 높은 경향을 보여 주었지만 ANL에서 제어 체적 분석 기법을 적용하여 이론식으로 계산한 값보다는 비교적 정확한 경향을 보여 주었다.

  • To alleviate NOx emission, a variety of approaches has been applied. In marine diesels, the application of SCR systems has been considered an effective exhaust aftertreatment method for NOx emission control. Most current SCR systems use a various catalyst for the reaction of ammonia with NOx to form nitrogen and water. In theory, it is possible to achieve 100% NOx if the NH3-to-NOx ratio is 1:1. However, the reaction has a limited non-uniformity of the exhaust gas flow and ammonia concentration distribution. Therefore it is necessary to investigate the optimum flow conditions. In order to achieve uniform flow at monolith front face, we are equipped with a various mixed device. In this paper, it is presented that the mixed devices play an important role improvement of flow patterns and particle distributions of NH3 by numerical simulation.

  • 디젤 엔진의 연소 과정에서 흡입공기와 분사된 연료의 최적 혼합기 형성이 배기성분, 연료효율 등 엔진의 성능을 향상시키는데 있어 매우 중요한 과제중의 하나이다. 이를 위하여 연료분무 현상에 대한 연구와 더불어 연소실내 공기유동 현상에 대한 연구가 주요 관심대상이 되어왔다. LDV를 이용한 3-D 유속측정 및 각종 CFD Code를 이용한 유동해석등의 방법으로 엔진 실린더 내부의 유동현상을 이해하는데 많은 도움이 되고 있으나 아직도 엔진연소실설계 등 엔진 개발에 있어서는 종래의 방법에 의한 실린더내 와류 강도의 비교평가에 크게 의존하고 있으므로 여기서는 디젤 엔진의 와류를 측정 평가하는 방법으로 Paddle Wheel회전을 이용한 Paddle Wheel식 Swirl Meter방식과 실린더내 흡입공기의 각 운동량을 측정하는 Impulse식 Swirl Meter 방식에 대해 고찰하고자 한다.
