The Characteristics of Career Attitude on the College Students Specializing in Hotel and Culinary by Personality Type (전문대학 조리과 학생들의 진로태도 유형별 성격 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the character of career attitude according to the group type which was identified and measured by Q methodology. The subjects were 38 junior students attending hotel & food service culinary management at Kyungnam College of Information & Technology. For the study, 88 variances of Lee's career attitude were used. In the career attitude items, 26 variances of career attitude were selected by factor analysis. The 26 variances explained 70.44% of all variances. Twenty-six variances were used on Q sorting from which 9 group types were identified by SPSS window program, and these 9 occupied 75.627%n of all variance. The groups were classified into two parts extroversion and introversion. Four groups(1, 3, 6, and 9) were identified as extroversion, and 5 groups(2, 4, 5, 7, and 8) as introversion. Group 1 was explained 10.270% of all groups, group 2(14.352%), group 3(10.270%), group 4(7.527%), group 5(6.314%), group 6(5.726%), group 7(5.469%), group 8(5.006%), and group 9(4.145%). Group 1 was named as "active challenge type", group 2 as "passive consideration type", group 3 as "realistic leader type", group 4 as "conservative challenge oriented type", group 5 as "conservative harmony type", group 6 as "arbitrary plan oriented type", group 7 as "realistic stability type", group 8 as "conservative creation type" and group 9 as "conservative reality type".

A Study on the Mediating Role of Mathematics Anxiety in the Influence of Self Efficacy on Mathematics Skills of College Students Majoring in Hospitality Management (호텔.레스토랑 전공 대학생들의 자기효능감과 수학실력의 관계에서 수학불안의 매개역할에 관한 연구)

  • This study examines the role of mathematics anxiety as a mediator between self efficacy and mathematics skills using a series of regression analyses suggested by Baron RM & Kenny DA(1986). The participants include college students who enrolled in the Food Service Production and Operation course in a department of hotel and restaurant management at a college in the United States. Descriptive analysis, principal component analysis, reliability test, and a series of regression analyses were used for data analysis using SPSS 19.0. In order to collect data for the study, General Self Efficacy Scale(GSES) and Math Anxiety Rating Scale(MARS) were utilized, and they turned out to be reliable(${\alpha}$=.906 and ${\alpha}$=.890, respectively). A significant negative relationship was found between self efficacy and mathematics anxiety. In addition, it was found that self-efficacious students performed better mathematics skills than those who had lower level of self efficacy. However, the relationship was no longer significant when the concept of mathematics anxiety was added, which satisfies the condition of mediation.

The Effects of Working Conditions on Internship Satisfaction of Hotel & Restaurant Management Students (산학 실습 근무 여건이 호텔 및 외식 전공 학생들의 산학 실습 만족도에 미치는 영향 - 전북 지역을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of working conditions on internship satisfaction. Hotel & Restaurant management students at universities in Jeonju participated in this study. Out of 156 questionnaires, 149 were analyzed using SPSS 17.0 and descriptive analysis, frequency test, factor analysis, reliability test, chi-square, t-test, ANOVA, duncan's multiple regression analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis were used. Based on the result of the conducting factor analysis, the working conditions were classified into 2 factors: work suitability and work environment. Internship satisfaction was classified into 3 factors: internship preference, education and work satisfaction, company satisfaction. Cronbach's alpha was calculated for the reliability of the survey instrument. Consequently, the working conditions were shown to affect internship satisfaction. Among the working conditions, work suitability had a lower effect on internship satisfaction than work environment. At the resort used in this study, the salary level was high, but the level of work environment, internship preference, and company satisfaction was low. The students wanted attend an internship program at the desired place to be hired and found that it was more important to be assigned to the desired department than having a higher salary.

Evaluation of Importance and Performance by Dietitians about Events Marketing at School Foodservice Operations in Busan (부산지역 학교급식 영양사의 이벤트 마케팅에 대한 중요도와 수행도 평가)

  • This research was performed to acquire dietitians' attitudes toward events marketing at school foodservice operations in the Busan area. A total of 359 questionnaires were distributed to dietitians employed at school foodservice operations in Busan from July 1 to 31, 2006 (response rate: 93%). All dietitians assessed the importance and performance of event marketing at 3.39/5.00 and 2.78/5.00. The elementary and high school had significantly (p<0.01) higher average scores of performance of event marketing than those of the middle school. The contract managed foodservices had significantly (p<0.01) higher average scores of performance of event marketing than those of the independent managed foodservices. In the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA), high importance and high performance (B area: doing great) were seasonal event, traditional festival day event, subdivisions of the seasonal event, environment event, school event, the day event and high importance whereas low performance (A area: focus here) was health event. Event marketing increased customer satisfaction and confidence. Therefore, these results suggest that there may be a need to implement special events at school foodservice in order to increase students' satisfaction.
