호주 연방산업과학연구회(CSIRO)는 1949년에 설립되어 호주 국내외에 56개의 연구소를 거느린 거대 연구 조직이다. 본고에서는 향후 CSIRO와 국내 소재연구 기관 간의 국제협력 관계 증진을 목표로 호주 연방산업과학연구회(CSIRO)의 인력, 예산, 조직 등 운영 현황과 전략 및 소재관련 연구분야를 소개하고자 한다. 전략적으로 CSIRO는 외부기관과의 협력 관계 증진, 과학기술 관련 지식의 유지 및 발전, 운영 절차의 간소화에 중점을 두고 이를 달성하는데 노력을 기울이고 있다. 또한 CSIRO의 소재관련 연구는 CSIRO 소재과학 및 공정(CSIRO Materials Science and Engineering)본부, CSIRO 공정과학 및 엔지니어링(CSIRO Proces Science and Engineering)본부, 경량소재 플래그십(Light Metals Flagship)에서 중점적으로 수행하고 있다.

통신 장비 및 서비스 시장의 개방화에 따른 국가간 경쟁 체제 속에서 통신 정책 입안자의 관심이 단말 장치에 대한 형식 승인 제도의 세부 규정과 절차의 명확성을 위한 각종 제도 장비, 그리고 단말 장치 기술 기준의 효율적 운용 방안 등에 모아지고 있다. 이를 반영하여 호주는 1991년 전기 통신법의 개정, 형식 승인 기관인 AUSTEL의 기능 강화, 국가 및 지역간의 형식 승인 조화를 위한 AUSTEL의 국제적인 각종 활동 등을 통하여 대내 외적으로 형식 승인제도와 형식승인 기술 기준의 미비점을 보완해왔으며, 현재 세계 각국과의 형식승인 상호인정을 위한 효율적인 활동체계를 구축하고 있다. 본 고는 단말 장치 형식 승인 제도 운영 등에 활발한 움직임을 보여주고 있는 호주의 형식 승인 지침(Technical Approvals Guide No.3)과 전화망 접속 기술 기준(TS-002)의 적용 동향을 파악하여, 최근 호주와 형식 승인 상호 인정을 계획하고 있는 우리나라의 통신 협상 대응 방안 설정시 활용하고자 한다.

유역 통합수자원관리를 지원하는 모델링 Toolkit을 소개하는 Catchment Modelling School04가 2004년 2월 9∼20일 호주 멜버른대학교에서 개최되었다. 이 workshop을 주관한 CRC(Cooperative Research Centre)는 한국의 21세기 프론티어 연구사업단(수자원의 지속적 확보기술개발 사업단)과 유사한 기능을 가진 기구로서 1991년도에 설립된 이래 공익을 위한 기술혁신과 상용화에 중점을 둔 범국가적 수자원 기술개발을 주도하여 왔다. 이 CRC는 호주 기상국, 무레이 다링 유역위원회 등의 연방정부기관과 빅토리아, 뉴우 사우스 웨일스, 퀸스랜드 등의 주정부, CSIRO Land and Water, 멜보른 대학, 모나쉬대학, 그리휘스 대학 등의 연구집단과 연계해서 초창기의 1단계 7개년 연구사업 기간('92∼'99) 동안 주로 소규모 수자원 환경 계측기술개발과 모형개발을 해 왔으며, 2단계 6개년('99∼2006)의 중반인 현재 유역단위의 대규모 모델링에 중점을 두어 8개 분야의 21개 연구과제를 수행하고 있다.(중략)

This study is designed to outline the major differences between the current radiographic programs of Korean, Australian, and the American radiographic programs. Through thorough comparison of these programs, the Korean curriculum is criticized and strategies put forth to improve the current radiographic educational curriculum which is currently employed in Korea.

The significant color enhancement in low quality Australian natural sapphire has been achieved by a hydrothermal method. The optimal conditions for the color enhancement of Australian natural sapphire were as follows; hydrothermal reaction temperature: $320{\sim}350^{\circ}C$, duration : 3 days, hydrothermal solvent: 2 M NaOH solution. After the hydrothermal treatment, Australian natural sapphires of transparent colors were obtained, and their grades were found to be improved from commercial to middle/top grade by value chart analysis.

This study aims to understand main contents of the National Mental Health Strategy and changes after mental health reform through the National Mental Health Strategy in Australia, and to find some convergence policy implications on mental health policy in South Korea. The direction of reform has changed considerably over the 20 years that the National Mental Health Strategy has been in place including the National Mental Health Policy(1992, 2008), the National Mental Health Plan(1993~2014), COAG National Action Plan on Mental Health(2006~2011), the Roadmap for National Mental Health Reform 2012-2022. The National Mental Health Strategy has advocated fundamental change in the national spending on mental health, mental health service provision, the expansion of community-based mental health services and care system, NGO, consumer and carer participation in mental health care.

Purpose: Cancer patients require emotional, financial and practical support as well as information/advice regarding their illness. This study aims to explore opportunities and barriers for the provision of the social support services in Australia and Korea. Methods: The survey was carried out by an email questionnaire for social workers in Australia and Korea, and collected data were analyzed using a thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke. Results: In Australia and Korea, various types of social support were available for cancer patients. However, social support for cancer patients should be better understood first in Korea, and more personalized support is needed in Australia. Conclusion: These findings will ultimately help to improve social support services for cancer patients in Korea an Australia, through grasping the current state and making up for the weak points.

Accurate forecasting of volatility is of considerable interest in financial volatility research, particularly in regard to portfolio allocation, option pricing and risk management because volatility is equal to market risk. So, we attempted to delineate a model with good ability to forecast and identified stylized features of volatility, with a focus on volatility persistence or long memory in the Australian futures market. In this context, we assessed the long-memory property in the volatility of index futures contracts using three conditional volatility models, namely the GARCH, IGARCH and FIGARCH models. We found that the FIGARCH model better captures the long-memory property than do the GARCH and IGARCH models. Additionally, we found that the FIGARCH model provides superior performance in one-day-ahead volatility forecasts. As discussed in this paper, the FIGARCH model should prove a useful technique in forecasting the long-memory volatility in the Australian index futures market.
