  • In this paper, a shape decomposition method using morphological operations is studied for decomposing the complex shape in 2-D mage into its simple primitive elements. The serious drawback of conventional shape representation algorithm is that the primitive elements are extracted too much to represent the shape and the processing time is long. To solve these problems, a new shape decomposition algorithm using the 8 bit planes obtained from gray code is proposed.

The serious drawback of conventional shape representation algorithm is that primitive elements are extracted too much to represent and to describe the shape. To solve these problems, a new shape decomposition algorithm using primitive elements that are similar to the geometrical characteristics of shape and 4 scan modes is proposed in this study. The multiple primitive elements as circle, square, and rhombus are extracted by using multiscan modes in a new algorithm. This algorithm have the characteristics that description error and number of primitive elements is reduced. Then, description efficiency is improved. The procedures is also simple and the processing time is reduced.

  • This paper proposes a 3D structure recovery and registration method that uses four or more common points. For each frame of a given video, a partial structure is recovered using tracked points. The 3D coordinates, camera positions and camera directions are computed at once by our improved scaled orthographic factorization method. The partially recovered point sets are parts of a whole model. A registration of point sets makes the complete shape. The recovered subsets are integrated by transforming each coordinate system of the local point subset into a common basis coordinate system. The process of shape recovery and integration is performed uniformly and linearly without any nonlinear iterative process and without loss of accuracy. The execution time for the integration is significantly reduced relative to the conventional ICP method. Due to the fast recovery and registration framework, our shape recovery scheme is applicable to various interactive video applications. The processing time per frame is under 0.01 seconds in most cases and the integration error is under 0.1mm on average.

  • The new approach was proposed which uses feature extraction based on fuzzy integral in the process of face verification using morphological shape decomposition. The centre of area was used with image pixels related with structure element and its weight in an attempt to consider neighborhood information. Therefore the morphological operators were defined for feature extraction. And then the number of decomposition images were more about 4 times than the conventional. Finally in the simulations with the extractions for face verification it was proved that the approach in this paper was even more good than the conventional in stability of feature extraction and threshold value.

  • In this study, a method to apply feature-based simplification to boundary representation models is proposed. For feature-based simplification, a volume decomposition tree is created from a boundary representation model. The volume decomposition tree is represented by regularized Boolean operations of additive volumes, subtractive volumes, and fillet/round/chamfer volumes, and it is generated by stepwise volume decomposition, which consists of fillet/round/chamfer decomposition, wrap-around decomposition, volume split decomposition, and cell-based decomposition. After the volume decomposition tree is transformed to an infix expression, the CAD model can be simplified by reordering the volumes. To verify the proposed method, a prototype system was implemented, and experiments on test cases were conducted. From the results of the experiments, it is verified that the proposed method is useful for simplifying CAD models based on boundary representation.

  • The use of gestures provides an attractive alternate to cumbersome interfaces for human-computer devices interaction. This has motivated a very active research area concerned with computer vision-based recognition of hand gestures. The most important issues in hand gesture recognition is to recognize the directivity of finger. The primitive elements extracted to a hand gesture include in very important information on the directivity of finger. In this paper, we propose the recognition algorithm of finger directivity by using the cross points of circle and sub-primitive element. The radius of circle is increased from minimum radius including main-primitive element to it including sub-primitive elements. Through the experiment, we demonstrated the efficiency of proposed algorithm.
