  • This study was carried out through the analysis of the actual vegetation types and characteristics in Baengma Urban Natural Park, Incheon to accumulate basic data for the forest vegetation management. The actual vegetation was classified into 39 types. Area of Robinia pseudoa-cacia forest was the widest($34.0\%$) in the afforested vegetation types, while Quercus monglica forest occupied the widest area($12.1\%$) in the natural vegetation types. The map of actual vegetation characteristics was drawn on the basis of stratum structure, plant development tendency and environmental condition of the actual vegetation types. We reclassified it into 16 types and proposed the management plan.

  • Securing the species compositional integrity (typicalness and representativeness) is the essential prerequisite for an integrated management of vegetation resources using the phytosociological $relev\acute{e}s$ and plant communities of the Z.-M. school. This study is intended to develop a tool for qualitative and quantitative evaluation of species compositional homotoneity of a set of $relev\acute{e}s$ per syntaxon. The new homotoneities, actual homotoneity ($H_{act}$), and optimal homotoneity ($H_{opt}$) taking into account the heterogeneous factors of $relev\acute{e}s$ are proposed. The correlations between the floristic variables such as the vegetation type, the new homotoneities, and the previously studied homogeneous measures (e.g. Pfeiffer's homogeneity, basic homotoneity-coefficient, corrected homotoneity-coefficient, and mean floristic similarity) are analyzed by using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. $H_{act}$ and $H_{opt}$ are effective in determining the difference of inter-synthesized units and of inter-$relev\acute{e}s$, respectively. $H_{act}$ is the homotoneity that is the most independent of the number of $relev\acute{e}s$. On actual vegetation with long-term human impact in the Korean Peninsula, $H_{opt}$ has become an aid to the more precise understanding of $H_{act}$ as substantive homogeneousness of species composition of syntaxa. It is expected that $H_{act}$ and $H_{opt}$ can be used for the selection of a sort of homogeneous vegetation data to build a phytosociological $relev\acute{e}$-database with consistency and objectiveness for national vegetation resources.

  • This research aims at having a grip on the actual condition of vegetation distribution Byeonsanbando National Park and to propose a survey and drawing criteria for vegetation map. Thus, this research conducted a survey of the vegetation distribution on Byeonsanbando National Park through review of the literatures on vegetation surveys on the National Parks in the past and at the present and preparing criteria for survey and drawing of vegetation. The actual vegetation of Bye on san ban do National Park was classified into eight plant communities and other land; the Substitution forest, or natural forest was classified into four plant communities including Quercus variabilis community, deciduous forest, Pinus densiflora community, and mixed forest while afforested land was classified into four forest types: P. rigida forest, P. thunbergii forest, P. rigida forest, P. rigitaeda forest, P. rigida - thunbergii forest, etc. The area belonging to grade 7 in Nature Degree was found to be the largest, covering 69.1% in Byeonsanbando National Park while the area belonging to grade 9 was very rare, covering 0.36%. Thus, it is suggested that criteria for survey and drawing map needed for the systematic survey and management of vegetation in National Parks.

  • Nanji-do is an island in Seoul, the area is 272ha, and in which gad was piled up waste discharged from Seoul metropolitan for 15 years(form March 1978 to March 1993). The volume of waste is 92, 000, 000m$^{2}$. The actual vegetation area of Nanji-do is 191ha, and the area of woody plant is 31ha. The rest area is covered by herbaceaus plant. In actual vegetation area of woody plant, Robinia pseudoacacia community and Salix pseudo-lasiogyne community are 83%. The soil pH is alkaline, though general soil pH is acid in Seoul. There is no relation with soil condition and actual vegetation. The result of this study, actual vegetation of Nanji-do don't help the establishment of vegetation restoration after soil stabilization construction. And so following a countermeasure is proposed. 1) Selection of adequate species by an experiment of planting pioneer species, native species, and dietary species 2) Establishment of an adequate planting plan and development of slope stabilization method by planting of native species 3) Establishment of a restoration plan of animal ecosystem by survey for animal ecosystem

  • Yokjido is a 15-km2 inhabited island located at the tip of the southeastern coast of the Korean Peninsula. Its forest is mostly composed of substitutional vegetation. Our aim was to provide basic information necessary for the conservation and management of the forest vegetation in Yokjido. We classified the types of existing vegetation using methods of the Zurich-Montpellier school of phytosociology. The resulting vegetation map shows the dominant tree species in the top canopy-layer. A total of 8 vegetation types were identified, which were arranged into a vegetation unit hierarchy of 2 communities, 4 sub-communities, 6 variants, and 2 subvariants. Evaluations of each type showed large and small differences in floristic composition, which reflect anthropogenic influences, site conditions, succession stages, and the establishment period. Moreover, vegetation types differed significantly in terms of species diversity indices; in particular, overall species richness, species diversity, and species evenness tended to increase significantly as the elevation increased. The herbaceous plant species showed the highest positive (+) correlation to x. These results were consistent with those of McCain, who reported that species diversity increases in mountainous areas with relatively low elevations due to the mid-domain effect. The forest succession in Yokjido will potentially enter a mixed-forest stage and then proceed to become an all-evergreen broad-leaved forest.

  • The Bulyeongsa Valley in Uljin-gun(Gyeungbuk) has a unique beautiful landscape and plentiful ecosystem, and Pinus densiflora for. erecta is distributed widely. Recently as the widening of national road in Bulyeongsa Valley, comprehensive survey is needed. So to investigate the forest distribution and structure, ninety-nine plots were installed and surveyed. Each plot size is $100m^2$. Important percentage analysis of the summarize results, vegatation of Bulyeung valley is found out that dominant species is Pinus densiflora mainly and Quercus variabilis and Quercus serrata are compatitive relation with Pinus densiflora partially. The analysis results of the actual vegetation and degree of green naturality(DGN) showed that Pinus densiflora community is 47.75%, and DGN 8 is 69.14% in total. From the above results, vegatation of Bulyeungsa valley is found out that dominant species is Pinus densiflora mainly, and Quercus variabilis and Quercus serrata are competitive relation with Pinus densiflora partially.
