Film Acting Studies of S. Kracauer (크라카우어의 영화연기론)

  • This article reviews the film acting studies of Kracauer presenting the basic approach of traditional film theory. It is to provide a foundation for film acting theory in order to activate the domestic acting studies. While Kracauer explaines the difference between traditional stage actor and film actor in 'Remarks on the Actor' of Theory of Film(1960), he suggests the characteristics of the cinema acting and its media technical meanings. He emphasizes the acting forms presenting the postwar new realism in his film acting studies. His approach takes the perspective of 'physical reality' or 'camera reality' which is the basic premise of film theory. Kracauer insists the naturalness of the actors, listing the features of professional actors, non-professional actors and Hollywood stars as they are a familiar classification for the types of actors. He does not prefer the Hollywood stars, whether it is fiction or documentary, professional or non-professional actors, but he emphasizes negative acting, the ability to express words by doing nothing, based on indeterminacy or indefiniteness of the film. Kracauer's film acting studies has affected later film theory and media-related acting, and has become the principles of cinema textbook and acting.

  • 영화산업은 삶의 질을 향상시키고 있는 현대 사회의 시대적 반영에 부응하는 문화산업으로 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 이러한 영화산업에서 흥행의 성공여부는 영화산업의 발전과 결부되는 부분이라 매우 중요하게 인식하고 있다. 흥행을 좌우하는 지표에는 다양한 요소들이 존재하며 그 중에서 주연배우의 특징과 영화의 본질이 맞을 때 성공적인 영화라 평가할 수 있는 일부분의 지표라 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 한국 영화에서 대표적인 흥행 마술사라 불리우고 있는 여성 영화배우 4인에 대한 음성분석을 통해 영화의 성공에 미치는 요소들과의 상호 연관성을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 대표적 여성 영화배우인 김혜수, 엄정화, 전도연, 문소리의 음성 분석을 통해 이들이 주연으로 출연한 영화의 흥행과 상관관계를 분석하였다.

  • Zhang yimou's film "the shadow" adopts a lot of modern literary symbolic content in the story structure. The novel has been greatly modified, abandoning the setting of the original work and making up the historical background of the story, thus completing the discourse practice of aerial literature rather than historical literature. The film expresses the historical story poetically and even writes the personal mind. In this way, the audience's sense of substitution is increased, and a large number of traditional Chinese cultural symbols are adopted visually. In terms of clothing, the most traditional is sought, which advocates loyalty to history, and adds cultural connotation and depth. The audience can feel the bold and unfettered artistic creation spirit of the main creator, as well as the novel and unique visual expression style, which makes his works have both traditional visual perception and modern story content. The combination of traditional vision and modern drama forms a new visual and cultural experience.

  • 영화는 현대 사회에서 가장 환영을 받고, 가장 영향력을 가진 문화 산업 중 하나로, 우수한 영화 장면 디자인은 영화 스토리 효과의 발전에 빛을 한층 더한다. <삼국-무 영자>는 장예모 감독이 연출하여 2018년에 개봉한 최신 영화로, 이것은 동양의 수묵 스타일 영화로, 주로 흑백으로 나타난다.[1] 이 영화는 2018년 제75회 베니스영화제 비경쟁 상영부문, 토론토국제영화제 상영부문, 런던영화제 경쟁부문에 진출했다. 장예모 감독은 민족문화의 내용을 표현할 때, 중국 문화에 대한 이해와 자신의 문화적 가치관을 자신의 촬영방식으로 풀어냈다. 그의 작품으로 보면, 이 영화의 주제는 주로 중국 고대의 역사문화와 수묵문화에 근거해 표현되며, 중국 전통문화의 독특한 매력에 대한 찬양이기도 하다. 본 논문은 연출 스타일과 동양의 심미적 측면에서 영화가 지닌 예술적 특징, 영화에 담긴 인문정신을 탐구하고, 세계를 향해 중국 수묵문화의 문화적 의미를 소개하는 동시에, 영화의 발전에 도움이 되기를 바란다.

  • 정치적으로 볼 때, 한국은 현재 북한과 남한이라는 분단 현실에 놓여있고, 북한은 제 2세계로 분류되어져 왔지만, 경제적으로나 지정학적 위치를 고려해 볼 때 북한은 현재 제 3세계로 간주되어가고 있다. 비록 이런 논의는 논쟁의 여지가 있기는 하지만 대한민국은 제 1세계와 제 3세계의 중간 어느 정도의 위치에 놓여있다고 본다. 소위, 서방과 태평양의 언저리에 놓여있는 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 영상연구방법 중 질적방법론의 사례분석과 문헌연구(한국민족영화운동(Korean National Cinema Movement (1980~1990)의 문헌연구)를 통해 제 3세계 영화, 비(非)서방(Non-Western) 영화들, Third Cinema 와 같은 용어들을 현대 동아시아(East Asia) 영화들을 특별히 한국영화에 적용하여 그 용어와 의미들을 논의하고자 한다. 이 논문에서 도출된 결과는, 글로벌 시대에 모든 영화들이 국적(이념)에 따라 구분 되어야 한다고 생각하지 않으며, 이러한 견지에서 동아시아(한국)의 영화는 반드시 재(再)평가 되어야하고, 제 3세계, 비(非)서방(Non-Western), 제 3세계 영화의 영역에 조심스럽게 재(再)위치해야 할 것을 재(再)조명하고 있다.

The Influence of Films and Its Application to Modern Christianity (영화의 영향력과 현대 기독교적 적용)

  • This study examines the economic, social, and cultural influence of films. The study also suggests several applications for Christian society through integrating some Christian viewpoints of films in culture. Films affect most of all areas of the society and modern people tried to get used to new culture of moving images, as we have done with the-character-culture, in the past. Many Christians, however, are shy about films and they have a few Christian applications to them. In this paper, researchers integrate the model of Niebuhr, Shin's cultural viewpoint of Niebuhr's understanding, and Johnston and Keller's model about films developed from Niebuhr. Researchers suggest a step-by-step proposal containing 'Extension of critical perspective', 'Establishment of thinking', and 'Expansion of thinking' as Christian effort to communicate films effectively. In addition, more studies are suggested Christianity will find out more possibilities of dialogue and more positive alternative to communicate with diverse cultures that are naturally experienced in today's popular society.

  • This study used movies to improve the students' immersion and interest in political classes. Movie is one of the most common and most powerful means of disseminating information that occur among humans. And it is the most easily accessible to the public. Especially, the recognition of visual images proceeds more easily and faster than the perception of thought. Understanding the political happening through movie can get double effect because of the high understanding and immersion. Above all, movies can penetrate into people's minds because they become a ideological. Therefore, it is publicized and also historical events are reproduced in movies. Likewise, politics is also based on the role of the thought or dominant beliefs, and public opinion is formed to justify various groups of human activities. It shows that today's political happening is not a new, but the historical phenomenon of the past are reproduced. Based on this, to discuss modern Korean political history through movies.

  • The purpose of this study was to research the limits of sports films from the perspective of social structural on the category, the material, the formulas and the mixture of the materials in the movie. The results were as follows: First, Sports films have been faced with the basic problem as to what a standards the category were classified with because of the conceptual confusion about what sports movie was. Second, sports movies could not catch up with a lot of changes in the movies. Third, sports movies were confined, without flexibility, within old fashioned formality of stories which prevails in modern sports. Lastly, they didn't have the mixture of the materials due to the fixed recognition on sports.

  • The animated film Big Fish & Begonia is a new attempt of Chinese animated films in recent years. Both market performance and artistic creation are an improvement. In the process of creation in the past ten years, Big Fish & Begonia has profoundly excavated Chinese myths and legends and combined them with modern art. This study takes the traditional Chinese cultural elements in the film as the starting point for research, from the aspects of character design, scene design and national culture. Through the analysis of the traditional cultural elements in Big Fish & Begonia, try to find a better direction for the development of animated films, such as the integration of modern art and traditional culture. It is precisely because of the large number of Chinese cultural elements incorporated in the Big Fish & Begonia that it is ingeniously set up to bring visual enjoyment and inner resonance to the audience.
