  • Taking a look at art history around the world reveals the presence of ceramics in a wide range of areas. There have been many changes and developments over the years, but especially notable is the fact that in the course of history, the craft of ceramics has become an aesthetic art form rather than serving the original purpose of providing daily object of necessity. The Art Nouveau movement had peat influence in the development of ceramics before and after 19$^{th}$ century, and its inherent style continues to be copied and produced to modem day. The Art Nouveau style can today be seen particularly in contemporary tableware designs reflecting its graceful motifs that are now richly presenting themselves on table settings. This study looks at the possibilites of Art Nouveau in ceramics, namely by combining both traditional formativ qualities and contemporary visual inspirations to seek new expressions of beauty. In order to document records and analyze formative developments of Art Nouveau, representative pieces have been chronologically presented to cover the period from 1895 to the present.

  • This is the deconstruction of functionism and means the complex phenomenon of disharmony such as the reputation of purity, search for history, irony and so on. The perceptional system of post modernist and deconstructionist philosopy, that allow us to have the critical angle of view such as the deconstruction of the existing foundation and the absence of the meaning of the reasoncentered thinking of the west, is shown to be grafted into design, fashion and so forth. These elements are taking root as the style of the end of the 20th century. • What is the semantic function of visual image in Contemporary art? This article proposes that representation is semantically still important in post-modernism as well as in modernism. The semantic function of representation has been changed by keeping pace with times. In modernism the 'outer representation' changed to 'inner representation', and in postmodernism the 'inner representation' changed to 'metaphorical representation'. The 'outer representation' means that image indicates a certain object or subject as the classical realism. In this case, the meaning of image is subordinate to an object, and a one-to-one correspond existed between the image and the object. Because this 'outer representation' is focused on an object but subject's intention, the indicative function of meaning is definite and singular. The 'inner representation' means that image exposes the fundamentals or process of an object. In this case, the meaning of image resolves itself into an absolute fundamental, and one-to-many correspond existed between the image and the object. Because this 'inner representation' is focused on essence and substance but an external form, the indicative function of meaning is inclusive and general. The 'metaphorical representation' means that image critically relates social constraint and condition as metaphor and allegory. In this case, the meaning of image is not subordinate to an object and a subject, and the image and the object indicate interactively. Because this 'metaphorical representation' is focused on interaction between subject, object, and interpreter, the indicative function of meaning is differant and ecological. This article focused on the representation because I believe that continuous thinking of totality can be opened by cognitive mapping, even though we never understand the world totally in the chaotic post modern age.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify how modern formative art reflects surrealism and propose a Art Make-up expressed based on the trend. The study also aims at demonstrating the part that the Make-up based on surrealism is also an artistic being keeping pace with the trend of art. For the purpose, the study reviewed related theoretical backgrounds and works as manufactured. Based on these theoretical backgrounds, the author anufactured works of his own, realizing the combination between theoretical and practical aspects. Those works were motivated from existing surrealistic paintings or otherwise made surrealistically through creation by the author for himself. The works included , (Work 2-MAGRITTE's Expression>, , , and . Results of the study, which were obtained through manufacturing the works, can be described as follows. First, senses of modern formation and line were emerged by applying the materials and images frequently shown in surrealistic paintings to human bodies. Second, characteristics of the Art Make-up for artistic image were revealed, not limited to colors, expressions, subjects, techniques and materials. Third, an unlimited, interesting expression of the Make-up using a variety of materials became possible by applying extremely subjective, surrealistic paintings and images in various ways. This paper proposed that the Make-up should be a artistic image itself, not as a secondary means for an obvious expression of personal beauty which has been maintained since the ancient times. The researcher tried to put the Art Make-up into our daily life by making creative works which viewed and psychologically enjoyed by people and by proposing the works as sort of image theme to the spectators.

  • In Japan, a country renowned for her traditional respect for handicraft, superior craft techniques have been transmitted from generation to generation. Modern Japanese textiles reinterprete these traditional techniques in a new light and combine them with modern technology, to make modern Japanese industrial textile both futuristic and traditional simultaneously. This combining of new technology and handicraft serves as a reservoir for a remarkable diversity and originality in the development of new technology and design, and constitutes an important trend in modern industrial textiles. The aim of this study is to investigate the developmental background of Japanese textile industry that championed this trend to make the Japanese development unique in modern textile industries and to consider the concept of modern textiles as well as the structural innovation as represented by this new trend, thus contributing to the development of creative textiles for the present and the future. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. The combining of new technology and traditional handicraft: 1) was made possible by Japanese consciousness that values traditional culture and by early recognition of advanced textile industry, which awarded new meaning and value to the traditional handicraft leading to an expanded social role for textiles. 2) helped construct a modern concept of textiles by pursuing textile media that are state-of-the-art, aesthetic, and highly sensitive to satisfy the requirements of modern industrial textile such as high quality, high performance, and high sensitivity. 3) enabled new design ideas and creation of new styles by implementing structural innovation in industrial textiles that involved diversification of expression, diversity in materials, and emphasis on texture. In short, by combining new technology and traditional handicraft, Japan came up with a new sense of aesthetics that is highly original and high level and with which the rest of the world can easily sympathize, thereby presenting one of the most important guiding principles for future textiles.

Nietzsche behauptet, dass physiologische und ${\ddot{a}}sthetische$ Prozesse wesentlich $zusammenh{\ddot{a}}ngen$.
