책상에 앉아 이론적인 연구만 해서는 창조적인 생각과 실용 가능한 연구가 나올 수 없다. 경기도 광주에 위치한 현대산업개발 기술연구소는 3층에 걸친 주택 실험동을 통해 얻은 연구 결과는 자사 공동 주택에 적용하고 있다. 손과 발을 직접 움직여 보다 편리하고 안전한 공동 주택을 만들기에 여념이 없는 현대산업개발 기술연구소를 찾았다.

$\ulcorner$2000년 인구 및 주택 조사$\lrcorner$ 자료에 의하면 전체 가구 중에서 단독주택 가구가 40.38%, 공동 주택 가구가 58.79%를 차지하고 있다. 아파트, 연립주택, 다세대주택 등으로 이루어진 공동주택이 이제 우리의 일상적인 주거양식이 되었다고 할 수 있다. 다시 말해 공동주택 주거양식은 현대적인 생활양식으로 우리의 보편적인 주거형태이며 대도시뿐만 아니라 중소도시의, 심지어 면 소재지에 이르기까지 우리의 주요한 주거 공간이 되었다. 이러한 현대적인 주거 생활은 도시화의 상징이자 도시 생활양식의 확산에 있어서 중요한 기능을 하고 있다. The process of German collective housing planning is meaningful in examining comprehensively deploying aspects of planning foundation through defining the ideology of modern and contemporary architecture in the process of providing housing followed by social changes while rebuilding the country after two World Wars in combination with the population concentration in cities after the Industrial Revolution. We outline the characteristics and understand the types of collective housing, and the background of their interaction with urban contexts overlapping social situations and historical processes; by means of the process, the planning and designing typology which is commonly adjusted to contemporary collective housing after examining them could be understood as being aligned with the extension line of interconnecting the process of modern and contemporary era.
