Fabrication and analysis of luminous properties of phosphor ceramic for laser headlamp in automotive application (자동차용 레이저 헤드램프를 위한 형광체 세라믹 제조 및 발광 특성 분석)

  • In this study, phosphor ceramics were fabricated, and optical properties were analyzed for application to nextgeneration automotive laser headlamps by using a spherical YAG : Ce phosphor with a garnet structure synthesized based on the spray drying method. The thickness of phosphor ceramic using spherical YAG : Ce phosphor was obtained with 100 ㎛, 150 ㎛, and 200 ㎛ to investigate the effect of thickness on optical properties such as light conversion efficiency, heat dissipation, luminance and color temperature. The results of this study are expected to play a significant role in the manufacturing process for the fabrication of phosphor ceramic by solving issues such as the high cost and low yield in the conventional liquid method to manufacture YAG : Ce nano fluorescent materials.

  • Self-loosening of bolts owing to external forces occurs in several machines that are clamped by bolts and nuts. This study focuses on the self-loosening of the aiming bolt of the head lamp in a vehicle. It is important to prevent the aiming bolt from self-loosening as it has a decisive effect on the angle of the head lamp. A nut clamped with a bolt, known as a retainer, is made of plastic and has a partial screw thread. In addition, a transverse load has a considerable impact on the self-loosening of a bolt. We concentrate on the self-loosening of a bolt by a transverse load. The aim of this study is to define the limits of the external force that loosen the bolt. Based on the above conditions, we derive a theoretical equation and develop a numerical analysis program that can calculate the limiting forces for self-loosening. To verify the developed program, we design a test device that can measure the self-loosening by applying sliding forces to the aiming bolt. Using this method, we can draw the following conclusions. First, the developed testing device is suitable to prove the theory for calculating the self-loosening force. Second, the equation confirms the relationship of bolt self-loosening between resistance torque and shear force. Finally, the equation obtains the minimum value of the resistance torque required to decrease the change in the angle of the head lamp, thereby improving the possibility of increasing the stability of the head lamp.

Effect of Friction on the Hysteresis of the Thrust Forces Acting on Auto Leveling Devices in Vehicle Head Lamps (헤드 램프 빛의 각도 자동 조절 장치에 작용하는 추력의 히스테리시스에 대한 마찰의 영향)

  • This paper presents a new method on how to calculate the thrust forces acting on an auto-leveling device in headlamps for passenger vehicles. The leveling device is used to lower the angle of lights when a load in the trunk of the vehicle lifts it. In the process of the headlamp design, it is imperative to predict the external forces so that the designers can decide whether to proceed or not. The device is composed of three pivot joints with no reaction moment, a plate that holds the lamp, and a leveling motor that changes rotation to linear motion. In this study, force balance, moment balance, and geometric compatibility are applied to the leveling device system so that a nonlinear system of equations can be derived; the multi-dimensional Newton-Raphson algorithm is then used to solve these. A sensitivity analysis is carried out to verify which design variables affect the system the most: the mass of the lamp and the height between the pivot and leveling device affect the thrust forces the most. Then, considering the friction forces between the moving parts, the hysteresis of the forces are derived. An experimental apparatus, designed and developed in this study, is used to verify the exactness of the derived equations. The results from experiments coincide well with the calculated results. The friction hysteresis, in particular, proves this upon analysis.

  • When slipping occurs between two materials, the coefficients of friction must be considered because these values determine the overall efficiency of the machine or slip characteristics. Therefore, it is important to find the coefficient of friction between two materials. This paper focuses on obtaining the coefficient of friction between an aiming bolt and a retainer located in the headlamps of a vehicle. This bolt supports the headlamp, and if the bolt is loosened by external vibration, the angle of the light will change and block the vision of pedestrians or other drivers. In order to study these situations, the coefficient of friction between aiming bolts and retainers needs to be measured. In addition, the coefficient of friction of materials used in the headlamp should be obtained. To determine these two factors, a new device is designed for two cases: surface-surface contact and surface-line contact. To increase reliability of the results, the device is designed using an air-bearing stage which uses compressed air as lubricant to eliminate the friction of the stage itself. Experiments were carried out by applying various vertical forces, and the results show that the coefficient of friction can be measured consistently. The procedure for designing the device and the results are discussed.

  • It is generally needed to test durability and lifetime when we develop parts in new technology. In this paper, the accelerated degradation analysis methods are developed to test them. This study is presented robust model estimation method that is less affected by outlier in regresstion model estimation. In addition, the lifetime can be predicted by Degradation-stress relationship in stress level.

  • ACR(All Clear Reflector), also widely referred to as FFR(Free Form Reflector), were designed in general and intelligent ways using a NUDBS surface for the mathematical modelling of the reflector shape and artificial intelligence as the optimum design algorithm. An ACR, which consists of a continuous surface reflector and clear outer lens, offers styling advantages and provides a high quality light performance. The clear outer lens of an ACR remains efficient even with a highly inclined shape, as in the design of a sports car, as well as the complete clearness of the reflector surface eliminates the nuisance of stray light caused by the steps between adjacent segments of multi-faced reflectors. The application of an ACR to low beam lamp was so sucessful to obtain the sharp cut-off with the lens-free single-surfaced-smooth reflector. The design technique of ACR was tested with all types of lamps, including low beams, high beams, and fog lamps.

  • This study proposes a new calculation method for generating real nighttime lamp-lit images. In order to improve the color appearance in the prediction of a nighttime lamp-lighted scene, the lamp-lit image is synthesized based on spectral distribution using the estimated local spectral distribution of the headlamps and the surface reflectance of every object. The principal component analysis method is introduced to estimate the surface color of an object, and the local spectral distribution of the headlamps is calculated based on the illuminance data and spectral distribution of the illuminating headlamps. HID and halogen lamps are utilized to create beam patterns and captured road scenes are used as background images to simulate actual headlamp-lit images on a monitor. As a result, the reproduced images presented a color appearance that was very close to a real nighttime road image illuminated by single and multiple headlamps.

  • Three dimensional orthogonal grid generation is able to control effectively the grid spacing near the boundaries, but there are some difficulty to meshing complex geometry. The mesh complex geometry by orthogonal grid generation method must divide block of geometry It is required a careful skill, and long time. Its also difficulty to make unstructured mesh on complex geometry. Particularly, three dimensional geometry must have more time and effort. Recently, there have been growing interests in mesh generation of complex grometry, aslike an automobile headlamp, the heart. The method of easily meshing complex geometry is resarched to solve them. We suggest octree grid into one among these methods. As octrce grid is automaticaly adapted at the boundaries by determine the level operations to control the grid spacing near the boundaries are unnecessary. In this paper we showed throe dimensional mesh generation, and heat-flow analysis on the octree mesh.

  • Increasing styling features for automotive headlamps speed up the focus of understanding condensation at inner surfaces. Water vapor condensation on the inside surface of the headlamp lens is an essential factor that affects secure front view and headlamp life. One of the headlamps of automobile which is one of the most popular in Korea was chosen for the present analysis. In the basis of the experimental data of automobile given by a manufacturer, boundary conditions were defined and free convection of the air inside the headlamp and radiation from the bulb to the other surfaces are considered. As a result, temperature distribution of the inside surface of the headlamp lens are approximately the same as the experimental result.
