A Study on the Airbag Crash Recognition Algorithm for Vechcle Impact Modes and Speeds (차량의 충돌 유형 및 속도에 따른 에어백 충돌인식 알고리듬에 관한 연구)

  • Crash test data from different impact modes and threshold speeds were used to assess the effects of impact conditions on air bag electronic single point sensing (ESPS) activation requirements. The requirements are expressed in terms of the desired sensor activation time based on unbelted driver dummy kinematics. A crash discriminator pre-displacement is introduced to crash recognition algorithm to the ESPS. The new crash recognition algorithm named Velocity Energy Pre-displacement(VEPD) method is developed and the ESPS algorithm based on the VEPD technique is used to assess the ESPS system performance. It is shown that VEPD method correlates very well with desired sensor activation time and meets the activation requirement.

The study for image recognition of unpaved road direction for endurance test vehicles using artificial neural network (내구시험의 무인 주행화를 위한 비포장 주행 환경 자동 인식에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, an algorithm is presented to recognize road based on unpaved test courses image. The road images obtained by a video camera undergoes a pre-processing that includes filtering, gray level slicing, masking and identification of unpaved test courses. After this pre-processing, a part of image is grouped into 27 sub-windows and fed into a three-layer feed-forward neural network. The neural network is trained to indicate the road direction. The proposed algorithm has been tested with the images different from the training images, and demonstrated its efficacy for recognizing unpaved road. Based on the test results, it can be said that the algorithm successfully combines the traditional image processing and the neural network principles towards a simpler and more efficient driver warning or assistance system.

A Study on Quality Improvement through Analysis of Hub-reduction Failure Occurrence Mechanism for Military Vehicles (군용차량 허브리덕션 고장 메커니즘 분석을 통한 품질개선 연구)

  • For the tactical vehicles operated by the Korean army, the hub-reduction portal axle was applied considering Korea's topographical characteristics. Hub-reduction was applied to a Korean military vehicle to increase the vehicle body to secure ground clearance and improve the driving capability on rough roads, such as unpaved and field land by increasing the torque. The Korean military is operating tactical vehicles after various performance tests, including durability driving, but wheel damage occurred in one of the vehicles operating in the front units. Failure analysis revealed many damaged parts, including the hub, making it difficult to determine the cause. Therefore, an analysis of the failure occurrence mechanism for each damaged part was conducted, which confirmed that the cause of wheel breakage was a hub. Furthermore, the root cause of the hub breakage was a crack due to internal pores and foreign matters. In addition, a realistic improvement plan that can be applied throughout the design, manufacture, and shipping stages was presented using the fishbone diagram analysis. The derived improvement plan was verified through unit performance tests, including CAE and actual vehicle tests, and by reflecting this, the driving safety of Korean tactical vehicles was improved. Finally, it is expected that the proposed method for analyzing the failure occurrence mechanism will be used as reference material when analyzing the quality problems of similar military vehicles in the future.

Flexible Body Dynamics Analysis of Agricultural Tractor Using 4-Post Road Simulator (4-Post Road Simulator 를 이용한 농용 트랙터의 유연 다물체 동역학 해석)

  • Agricultural tractors are utilized on rough road such as rice paddy field. Therefore, static and dynamic load should be considered when simulating structural analysis with finite element analysis (FEA). But it consumes a lot of time and effort to measure dynamic load because of difficulty and complexity in modeling various field working load conditions and kinematics of machinery. In this paper, to reduce the efforts, 4-post road simulator is developed for agricultural tractor like modeling commercial vehicle. In proving ground test in our facility, I measured acceleration of front/rare axle and strain of body frame to validate input loads. The acceleration is used for defining input loads. And strain is validated with dynamics analysis including mode superposition method. As a result, I was able to calculate 4-post input road profiles, which represent similar proving ground profile with good reliability.
