  • The purpose of this study was to identify the factors affecting the motivation for blood donation participation of university students. The subjects of this study were 200 university students in one area, and a self-report questionnaire was used for data collection. The data analysis used frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Independent T-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, and Multiple Regression Analysis. As a result of the study, the factors influencing the subjects' motivation to participate in blood donation were significant in the order of attitude toward blood donation, future blood donation plan, perceived health status, altruism, and number of blood donation experiences. The results of this study can be used as basic data for the development of educational programs to increase the motivation for blood donation participation of university students. It also suggests that there is a need to develop strategies that can increase university students' attitudes toward blood donation, altruism, and health status.

On the measuring of knowledge level, the average rates of correct answer was higher in donors (62.6%) than in nondonors (54.1%) (p<0.01). Higher the education level was presented, higher the knowledge level (p<0.05). There have been noticeable difference between donors and nondonors in blood replying the questionnaire set to measure their attitude toward blood donation. especially in the items such as "impression toward blood", "selection of transfusion blood source" and "view on the situation of blood shortage." First, the rates of the blood donors were higher in the men, in the age group from 20 to 29, in the students and in the group that received college or higher education. Second, as for the knowledge and recognition of the blood donors on blood donation, many replied they didn't know well about it. • The purpose of this study was to examine knowledge, attitude, and altruism on blood donation and influential factors in regard to its experience. Data were collected through questionnaires with a convenience sample of 311 healthcare providers. Subjects with blood donation experience accounted for 63.3%. In both nurses and laboratory technologist, the rate of blood donation in male group has higher than that of female group. There were differences in the knowledge of blood donation dependent upon the type of occupation of healthcare providers and the higher age and the longer period of career experience proved to be the significant factor for the level of altruism. The study suggests that more practical, concrete strategies should be identified to participate in blood donation. The further relevant variables need to be investigated since the most determinant motivator for blood donation among healthcare providers was the responsibility to help others.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing intentions regarding blood donation among nursing university students. Methods: We collected data from 165 nursing students at a university in D city via a self-administered questionnaire from May 28 to May 30, 2018. Results: Intentions of blood donation had significant positive correlations with blood donation motivation (r=.52, p<.001). Also, blood donation motivation had significant positive correlations with self-identity (r=.27, p=.013). A regression analysis showed that factors affecting intention of blood donation were intrinsic motivation for blood donation (${\beta}=.30$, p=.028), and extrinsic motivation for blood donation (${\beta}=.32$, p=.013). These factors explained 25% of intentions of blood donation (F=8.06, p<.001). Conclusion: Therefore, motivation and self-identity should be considered when developing blood donation programs for nursing college students.
