  • Post-tensioned Precast concrete System(PPS) consists of U-shaped precast wide beams and concrete column. The continuity of beam-column joint is provided with floor concrete cast on the PC shell beam and post-tensioning. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the response of PPS interior beam-column joint subjected to cyclic lateral loading. To this end, an experimental investigation was performed with three half-scale specimens of interior connection. The design parameters are the amount of beam reinforcement placed inside the joint core. The test results showed that cracks were distributed well without my significant degradation of strength and ductility. Also, it was found that the prestressing may affect to alter the torsional crack angle. And the specimens sufficiently resist up to limiting drift ratio of 0.035 in accordance with the provisional by ACl of acceptance criteria for concrete special moment frames.

  • Recently some studies have shown that low light intensity followed by final cure at high light intensity may result in a smaller marginal gap and may be no negative effect on material properties. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of the initial cure with low intensity on the shear bond strength of dentin and the microhardness of composite resin. Twenty intact bovine teeth were prepared for shear bond strength test and each tooth sectioned to three specimens. The specimens were randomly divided into three groups according to the light intensity and curing time as follows; Group I. $450mmW/cm^2$ 40sec Group II. $300mmW/cm^2$ 20sec and $600mmW/cm^2$ 20sec Gropu III. $250mmW/cm^2$ 20sec and $450mmW/cm^2$ 20sec. Samples of each group were restored with light-cured composite resin after dentin bonding and then the shear bond strength of each specimen were measured using universal testing machine. Ten resin specimens per group were prepared. After 24 hours, the Vickers microhardness value was measured at the top and bottom surfaces. The result are as follows; 1. Mean value of low initial intensity groups(II, III) were higher than the control group(I) in shear bond strength, but no significant difference could be found. 2. No significant difference could be found between three groups in microhardness.

  • Urban railway lines have been constructed adjacent to residential buildings and urban areas. The expansion of transportation networks and reconstruction of residential buildings in highly populated urban areas require deep excavations in areas adjacent to urban railways. Mobilized soil stresses and changes in the groundwater level induced by deep excavations results in track irregularities in urban railways. In this study, a three-dimensional finite difference model using the commercial program FLAC3D was adopted to estimate the horizontal displacements of earth retaining structures, settlements of backfill, the stability of track irregularity and underground box structure based on the criteria of each railway organization and its relationships. In deep excavations, a change in groundwater level induces relatively very small differences for track gauge irregularities, whereas relatively large differences for longitudinal irregularities of 72.5%, twist irregularities of 83.3%, cross level irregularities of 61.9%, and alignments of 43.3% were found to be the maximum differences when the horizontal displacement of earth retaining wall and settlement of backfill were 65.1% and 21.4%, respectively, because the groundwater level (GWL) on the ground surface-mobilized tensile strength of the underground box structure exceeds the allowable value. Therefore, three-dimensional numerical analysis was performed in this study. Overall, real-time monitoring should be carried out to prevent railway accidents in advance when a deep excavation adjacent to urban railway structures is constructed.

  • During the construction of cable stayed bridge, errors are always caused by various reasons, accumulated and amplified through the complex construction steps. It is likely that the undesirable stress distribution of members and the large deflection of the bridge different from design values come out The adjustment of cables during construction is absolutely indispensable to correct the stress distribution of the members and the geometrical configuration of the bridge. In the conventional method, weight coefficients are used to consider the difference of units between cable forces and girder deflections during the optimization process of cable adjustment. However, it is not easy to determine weight coefficients and the adjustment must be repeated several times with the time consuming process of the determination of new weight coefficients in case that errors are out of design allowable limits. In this paper, fuzzy linear regression analysis is applied to the cable adjustment to overcome those problems. In the application of fuzzy linear regression analysis method the designer's intention and the design allowable limits can be formulated in the form of the constraints of the linear optimization problem. Therefore, the cable adjustment in construction site can be carried out with the fuzzy linear regression analysis more rapidly than with the convetional method.

  • Fixed connection is generally used for beam and column connections of concrete structures, but significant damages at the connection due to severe earthquakes have been reported. In order to reduce damages of the connection and improve seismic performance of the connection, several innovative connections have been suggested. One newly proposed connection type allows a rotation of the connection for applications in rotating or rocking beams, columns, and shear walls. Such structural elements would provide a nonlinear lateral force-displacement response since their contact depth developed during rotation is gradually reduced and the stress across the sections of the elements is non-linearly distributed around a contact area, which is called an elastic hinge region in the present study. The purpose of the present study is to define the elastic hinge region or length for the rocking columns, through investigating the cross-sectional stress distribution during their lateral behavior. Performing a finite element analysis (FEA), several parameters are considered including axial load levels (5% and 10% of nominal strength), different boundary conditions (confined-ends and cantilever types), and slenderness ratios (length/depth = 5, 7, 10). The FEA results showed that the elastic hinge length does not directly depend on the parameters considered, but it is governed by a contact depth only. The elastic hinge length started to develop after an opening state and increased non-linearly until a rocking point(pre-rocking). However, the length did not increase any more after the rocking point (post-rocking) and remained as a constant value. Half space model predicting the elastic hinge length is adapted and the results are compared with the numerical results.

  • This study focuses evaluating the efficiency and performance evaluation of composite type sheet-membrane waterproofing method that utilizes a separation behavior inducement system designed to resolve the chronic problems of disintegration and damage of overlap areas of waterproofing layers. As the result of the test, the tensile strength value was at 13.8N/mm and elongation rate at 587% for the separation behavior inducement type specimen, and the compared specimens had 14.2N/mm for tensile strength and 335% for elongation rate. For the separation behavior adhesion method specimen, when tensile stress or displacement occurred, the Zero-Span tension occurrence did not follow, which resulted in that the bottom sheet layer and the top membrane layer did not simultaneously becoming damaged. When undergoing the top and bottom layers were separated through separation behavior due to lack of flexibility, the bottom layer began to damage at the primary stage, and with the allowed boundary the upper membrane layer began to display flexibility and showed continuous displaced resulting in secondary phase damaging.

  • In this paper we perform a linearized buckling analysis using the Kirchhoff plate theory and the von Karman nonlinear strain-displacement relation. Design sensitivity analysis(DSA) expressions for plane elasticity and buckling problems are derived with respect to Young's modulus and thickness. Using the design sensitivity, we can formulate the topology optimization method for minimizing the compliance and maximizing eigenvalues. We develop a topology optimization method applicable to plate buckling problems using the prestress for buckling analysis. Since the prestress is needed to assemble the stress matrix for buckling problem using the von Karman nonlinear strain, we introduced out-of-plane motion. The design variables are parameterized into normalized bulk material densities. The objective functions are the minimum compliance and the maximum eigenvalues and the constraint is the allowable volume. Through several numerical examples, the developed DSA method is verified to yield very accurate sensitivity results compared with the finite difference ones and the topology optimization yields physically meaningful results.

  • Valves are one of the most important components of a pipeline system in a nuclear power plant, and it is important to ensure their structural safety under seismic loads. A crucial aspect of structural safety verification is the seismic qualification, and therefore, an optimal shape design and experimental seismic qualification is necessary in case the configuration of the valve parts needs to be modified and their performance needs to be improved. Recently, intensive numerical analyses have been performed before the experimental verification in order to determine the appropriate design variables that satisfy the performance requirements under seismic loads. In this study, static and dynamic numerical structural analyses of a 200A butterfly valve for a nuclear power plant were performed according to the KEPIC MFA. The result of static analysis considering an equivalent static load under SSE condition gave an applied stress of 135 MPa. In addition, the result of dynamic analysis gave an applied stress of 183 MPa, where the CQC method using response spectrums was taken into account. These values are under the allowable strength of the materials used for manufacturing the butterfly valve, and therefore, its structural safety satisfies the requirements of KEPIC MFA.

  • Steel truss outriggers can be replaced by reinforced concrete walls to control the lateral drift of tall buildings. When reinforced concrete outrigger walls are connected to perimeter columns, not only axial forces but also shear forces and moments can be induced on the perimeter columns. In this study, the shear force of the perimeter column due to the rotation of the outer edge of the outrigger wall is derived as analytic equations and the result is compared with the finite element analysis result. In the finite element analysis, the effects of connecting beams at each floor and the effect of modeling shear walls and outriggers with beam element and plane stress element was analyzed. The effect of the connecting beam was almost negligible and the plane stress element was determined to have greater stiffness than the beam element. The inter-story rotation and the shear force of the perimeter column due to the rotation of the outer edge of the outrigger wall was considerably smaller than the allowable value. Therefore, even if the outrigger wall made of reinforced concrete is applied to a tall building, it is considered that there is no need to study the shear force and moment induced in the perimeter columns.

  • In this study, evaluation and consideration of domestic/overseas design, construction, and quality control performed by the authors on the deep cement mixing method were performed, and improvements for the development of the DCM method were suggested in the future. As a result of this study, it was found that the cross-sectional area correction for strength is required during the laboratory test of mix proportion, and caution is required because the extrapolation method may lead to different results from the actual one. Applicable design methods should be selected in consideration of both the improvement ratio and the type of improvement during design, and it was confirmed that the allowable compressive strength to which the safety factor was applied refers to the standard value for stability review and not the design parameters. In the case of the stress concentration ratio, rather than applying a conventional value, it was possible to perform economical design by calculating the experimental and theoretical stress concentration ratio reflecting the design conditions. In the case where pre-boring is expected during construction, if the increased water content is not large compared to the original, there were cases where a major problem did not occur even if the result that did not consider the increase in water content was used. In addition, it was confirmed that when the ratio of the top treatment length to the improved length is high, a small amount of design cement contents per unit length can be injected during construction. In the case of quality control, it was evaluated that D/4~2D/4 for single-axis and D/4 point for multi-axis were optimal for coring of grouting mixtures. As an item for quality control, it is judged that the standard that considers the TCR along with the unconfined compressive strength of grouting mixtures is more suitable for the domestic situation.
